Another Day

Yesterday was my falling apart day, I guess. I was really discouraged. Today is better. I mean, what choice do we have? We keep on keeping on, and we keep an eye on the people around us. Help where we can. Encourage where we can.

And avoid watching the news. I read it. I don't watch it.

So...yesterday, we worked on the house, and corrected the problems with the stairs. Tim called the woman, and she came back today. She did not look at the stairs. She didn't even go into the basement. But, we passed, and they will send our C.O. (certificate of occupancy) in the mail. It still amazes us both that we haven't even got the water run yet, but...the inspections are done. We're not arguing.

Tomorrow will be a busy day. We're bringing the air compressor back from the new house and taking it to the rehab. We'll start back to work on the Wayne St house bathroom.

While we are at the new house, we'll take care of the cats. Tim is pretty sure it is a coyote circling the garage. It has returned. We've seen his tracks in the snow. The good news is that he's too large to get into the garage, so the kittens are safe as long as they are inside. It seems as if the critter is coming either early or late. The cats do go out during the day. We see their footprints out and about. We just make sure that they have plenty of dry food and water. It is warm inside the garage, and they have a safe place to hide. I am sure they can hear him prowling around outside, but they have very good instincts. Still, I can't wait until we are up there. Just being there all the time will keep that coyote out of the yard. It will also help in the cat domestication project, which has taken a big step backward. Only Possum comes to be petted now. The others do not even come at feeding time, waiting until we are gone.

On the way back home, we'll also run up on the hill and buy eggs from my niece who sells them for $3 a dozen. We're pretty lucky to have a bunch of cluckin' chicken folks in the family. Buying them in Aldi's, they are $5.15 a dozen. I know we're getting off cheap compared to a lot of you (*coff* Allison and Jim)

Didn't he promise to bring egg prices down? I thought he said that.

Anyways, we probably will not get a lot done on the house tomorrow, because after we get back from our running, we will go to the court to hear the disposition re: one of the boys that broke our window out. We just feel like we should be there. We don't even know for sure what we will say or do. Or even if we should say or do anything. But, we will wait and see what happens.

The solicitous victim's advocate called from her office to offer to be with us in the court room if we needed her. I mean, gads...a window got broken. It was not like we were physically assaulted by a group of them. There's no trauma involved. Just a sense that this boy needs someone in his corner. Maybe all we're meant to do is speak with him. Again, don't know.

Then I suppose, when that is done, we'll go get some actual work done for a couple hours.

Friday will be another lost day, given over to appointments. I have a feeling we'll be working this weekend.

After Tim got back from the inspection, we had errands to run around town, and it was a good day to do it. It was above freezing, and it actually felt warm and breezy, as if spring was moving in, even though we know that winter is not yet over. This is a very changeable time of the year.

The order to rescind the federal funding freeze also lifted my heart, even though I know that, like winter, tRUMP and his merry band of predators are not done yet. Like the weather, this administration changes with the wind.

Laugh of the day:

  1. There have been thousands of chickens killed because of the bird flu. Walmart's egg shelves were empty last week. Happy your house passed, we had a problem like that when we remodeled, one inspector told us we needed an air pipe beside our tub, Ron drilled and put one in, the next inspector asks us why we made a hole in the beautiful tile work we had, he said cut that pipe off and fill the hole in.

    1. I think that was the most frustrating thing was that each inspector seemed to have their own ideas about how things should be done. It was kind of frustrating to be told that you had to entirely insulate your basement, when the plan was to keep it cool, because we intended to put a cold room in the back north corner. Things like that. Interestingly enough, the things that they were not at all interested in were things like the bringing natural gas into the house. They don't inspect that, we were told. The last two inspectors began making noises about drywalling the basement ceiling. Tim just said that we were not ready to do that, because he still had to run the pex tubing for the water to the bathroom and the kitchen.

    2. The bird flu has been in the US since 2022. That did not prevent the price of eggs from becoming a campaign issue. Egg prices were a big talking point, and something he vowed to fix on day 1

  2. It is frustrating when inspections and inspectors aren't standard..but at least you passed
Has the trail cam caught the coyote ?

    1. Not that I know of. But we have seen fresh tracks. I need to ask Tim. Maybe it needs batteries or reaimed.

    3. I meant to tell you...Tim says that the time between the two visits was about a week. So he's not surprised that we haven't seen him on the camera.

  3. Kay of Musings: Oh gosh…You have so much going on and on top of that… Trump. I don’t want to watch the news either. One of my friends was over this afternoon saying the same thing about not watching the news. However, you can’t avoid the news. In just a week, there’s so much evil being done.

    1. No Kay. I don't avoid the news. I stick to reading the news. Somehow, that is easier...plus I don't have to worry about hearing his voice. I agree. It has never been more important to be aware of what is going on.

  4. I just read Rebecca Solnit on F/B she is kickstarting her own fightback as far as the regime is concerned. The grilling of Kennedy today was good.

  5. As of yesterday, Google Maps here was still showing Gulf of Mexico and the newer name for the Alaskan mountain. #47 may be able to rename the mount, but I don't think he can rename the gulf to what he chooses.

  6. I'm pleased for you that the house passed.
The renaming of the Great Lakes looks wonderful.
The news generally remains woeful and, in many cases, unbelievable.

  7. YAY! The inspection done and dusted. Soon, you will indeed live there and can look forward to many lovely days in your new home, looking at all you and Tim built yourselves! I do not watch the news, and am careful of what I read and put into my brain because I can fall into that black hole where I feel hopeless and helpless. I agree, what are we going to do except look after those who can't take care of themselves, the best we can. It's going to be like this for the next 4 years, so we've got to put on our big girl panties and do what we all do so well, which is help and love others. Trash has a way of taking itself out, sooner or later.

    1. I think that really is the biggest danger, Karla, that we fall into this pit of despair, and begin to feel hopeless. It isn't good right now, and it will get worse before it gets better, but we have to think that people will come to their senses at some point.

  8. Well that's frustrating, they tell you to something and then don't even look at it.
I was angry as hell yesterday but today I feel better, thankfully. I don't like where things are going but also feel helpless and hopeless. Too many fights on too many fronts, which I guess is the point. Overwhelm people and they don't fight back as much.
I love that meme about patience and will be stealing it:)

Just taken my fingers out of my ears and finished singing la-la-la. Didn't really help much though.

  10. I gather Kennedy had a rough day. He is such a joke. But he just might get in. God help you. I would think at very least, the position should go to someone like maybe a Doctor of Medicine. I also don’t watch news, but read a little of it, just can’t stand that bullshit voice of your dear leader. He has overtaken our news too. Gigi

  11. I am on Bluesky. I can see the news in passing, but I can just keep scrolling without paying much heed. So I am aware but not engulfed.

Have you considered going to the great TNR expense with the cats: trap, neuter, release?

  12. I hope the court thing goes well for all. The kid really probably does need help.
Have you considered checking out Acme's coyote-repelling products? I am sure they must have something besides road-runner killing devices. Seriously, though, I don't know what you'd do to try and get rid of the one you have. You're right in that when y'all move in, the coyote will probably move out.

    1. Coyotes (at least in our part of the world) seem to make a point of avoiding people. It actually seems like the sensible thing for people to do as well. We kind of suck, don't we. So...anyways, we're pretty sure that just living there and being present will solve most of the problem.

  14. Sounds like the stalking coyote is tRump's long lost pet. Wonder if it has actully nabbed a kitty. You have confused inspectors, certainly not consistent in their job. Not too many people have a basement with the rafters covered, so it's interesting how they wanted that done. Be careful as you're getting your tasks done. Linda in Kansas

  15. You've always got a lot on the go. You keep busy and then all the worries come along like the coyote and cats. And oh yes, tRump. Just when you think it can't get any worse , it does. We have a cap with Canada is not for sale.

  16. So does this mean the cold room is off the table, due to them making you insulate the basement? Seems like that should have been personal preference, since you're the ones who know who you will use the space. The "free range" eggs are $12 something a dozen. I think it was last year that there were no eggs for months at a whack. That would be bad. Our neighborhood in urban Spokane has coyotes, people see them on their game cameras.

    1. Well...I probably shouldn't say it, but that insulation will be redistributed. We will have our cold room.

Those egg prices are crazy. I got 4 dozen eggs for that price.

The coyote has made a return, which is why Tim put our game camera in the greenhouse to watch the front of the garage. He says that they generally loop around every week. We haven't seen him yet, though. We do have a coyote trotting up the driveway like he owned the place, though. That was in the supper.

  18. Excellent memes, Debby. I can relate to that patience one big time especially at work. Some days I can handle the incompetence but there are other days when the double birds come out and I cuss like my life depends on it. Hang in there, take care and glad the cats are OK.

  20. Coyotes just may be the most adaptable critters around. They cruise through our back yard all the time like they own the place. For that matter so do the javelinas & mule deer.

    1. I have to say, I really think that I'd be more afraid of the javelinas than the coyotes. The ones here seem to be very wary and avoid people all together.
