The Washington Post ran an editorial which endorsed Pam Bondi as a "qualified" and "serious" pick for Attorney General.
Yes. The same Washington Post who refused to endorse Kamala Harris' campaign saying that it was unethical.
Pam Bondi is also a former Amazon lobbyist, which is not mentioned.
You might also want to check your facebook. I suddenly found myself following, of all people, Mark Zuckerberg who is at one of the inaugural balls. He is "feeling optimistic", he reported, shown in a picture with his wife, smiling broadly.
I didn't ask for his opinion. I unfollowed and blocked him immediately.
Other people are reporting that they are suddenly following 'The White House', Donald Trump, Melania Trump, or JD Vance (or any combination of them). They did not request this...it just magically happened. Smiling faces and cheerful posts calling for unity and celebration. (Just as magically, these people unfollowed, which for the uninitiated, you do by going to the three dots on the right hand side of the post, clicking on it, and scrolling down the list to 'unfollow and block', and clicking on that).
A bit of history for you.
How did the Nazis use censorship?
When the Nazis came to power in 1933, the German constitution guaranteed freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Through decrees and laws, the Nazis abolished these civil rights and destroyed German democracy. Starting in 1934, it was illegal to criticize the Nazi government. Even telling a joke about Hitler was considered treachery. People in Nazi Germany could not say or write whatever they wanted.
Examples of censorship under the Nazis included:
- Closing down or taking over anti-Nazi newspapers;
- Controlling what news appeared in newspapers, on the radio, and in newsreels;
- Banning and burning books that the Nazis categorized as un-German;
- Controlling what soldiers wrote home during World War II.
How did the Nazis use propaganda?
The Nazis used propaganda to promote their ideas and beliefs. Beginning in March 1933, the regime tried to centralize its propaganda efforts in a new ministry led by Joseph Goebbels. This ministry was called the Reich Ministry of Enlightenment and Propaganda.
The Nazis used a variety of propaganda tools to spread Nazi ideas. Examples of propaganda under the Nazis included:
- Glorifying Adolf Hitler by using his image on postcards, posters, and in the press;
- Spreading negative images and ideas about Jews in magazines, films, cartoons, and other media;
- Making radios more affordable so that more Germans could listen to Nazi ideas and news;
- Broadcasting Nazi speeches on the radio and public loudspeakers;
- Organizing large and celebratory Nazi Party rallies;
- Creating groups, like the Hitler Youth and League of German Girls, that fostered Nazi ideals.
How did propaganda and censorship work together?
Textbooks are a good example of how propaganda and censorship worked together in the Nazi regime. The Nazis used both propaganda and censorship to control what students read in school. Nazi censors removed some textbooks from classrooms. New textbooks taught students to obey the Nazi Party, love Hitler, and hate Jews.
History repeats itself. Horrifying.
ReplyDeleteBut it is only horrifying to some people. That is the scary part.
DeleteI am not seeing him, maybe bc I am American.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see how widespread this is.
DeleteThe automatic following thing is very alarming.
ReplyDeleteThe posts are labeled with their name as if they are being sent from their personal accounts.And it is pretty freaky.
DeleteIt's not happening to me here in UK.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it is based on the fb groups you belong to.
DeleteI just hope the bad crap doesn't spread so much in the U.S. that I have to start talking like Trump. Talking like Trump. It's everywhere. Talking like Trump, so that it's the books. the books are doing it. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteIt would be a bigly problem.
DeleteIt's not happening to me either. That'll teach you for trolling the MAGA camp!
ReplyDeleteIt is happening to a lot of people who belong to private anti trump sites.
DeleteI seldom use Facebook, but got a surprise email yesterday from some "Christian pastor" asking if I wanted to be kept informed of all the great things tRump does to "strengthen our faith". I was so appalled I immediately deleted it----what a joke!
ReplyDeleteSomeone says that a far right "religious" group is claiming they saw the Holy Spirit descend upon him as he laid his hand on the Bible. This is madness. Literal insanity.
DeleteThat's a good trick, since he did not lay his hand on the Bible. There are pictures.
DeleteI read your post after I got the message from a friend. The thing is, they're blaming John Roberts! They said that he started too quickly and didn't give tRUMP time to get his hand on the Bible. Mighty slow reflexes. Can you imagine the shit storm if Biden would have done that?
DeleteIt was all pretty simple. Cut off information and feed your own demented ideas to the masses.
ReplyDeleteA logical first step, isn't it?
DeleteI checked, not following either one. More importantly, the parallels of Hitler's rise to power in the 30s and what Trump & his lackeys are attempting here are chilling. The media here in the US have a stark choice, they can either support Democracy and call out what is happening or they can fall in line and meekly head off to the slaughter. I don't have a lot of faith that they will do the right thing. Time will tell.
ReplyDeleteDo you subscribe to substack?
DeleteNot yet, but I'm going to.
DeleteI'm finding them helpful. $60 for a year was a decent price, I thought.
DeleteI'm getting "news" posts..I'm blocking them all
ReplyDeleteThe posts I got from Zuckerberg are labeled with his name, as if it is account. The same as if you posted.
DeleteAnd here we are, a few hundred miles down that road and the man just took office yesterday.
ReplyDeleteProject 2025 had it mapped out.
DeleteIt is breaking my heart that hate is winning all over the world.
ReplyDeleteHate and stupidity both.
DeleteThe rump has been spouting Hitler shit for years but he has been getting away with it. Americans have little knowledge of what goes on in the rest of the world because they have been brainwashed for years, hearing only what they want to hear. Not all Americans but close to half of them by the look of it. Well, those that voted for him are in for a big shock. It started yesterday!
ReplyDeleteHe's been busy as hell on his first day.
DeleteI refuse to watch Trump on the television.
ReplyDeleteI'm not watching the news. Tim does. I just don't want to listen to him.
DeleteHave you seen The Contrarian? Journalists who have quit the "mainstream media" to spread the truth and call out the lies. They interviewed Heather Cox Richardson and she recommends following them.
ReplyDeleteThat is something that I plan to look into. I haven't had a lot of time lately.
DeleteI checked mine and none of the above showed up, thank goodness. During the campaign though, I had to unsubscribe for Trump crap, even though I had never subscribed. Some strange stuff going on.
ReplyDeleteI fear for our country, I really do.
Keep an eye on it.
DeleteYou must watch Bishop Budde on youtube go after the rump in church she was so good. Gigi
ReplyDeleteI did. And that's what it is going to take. People standing up to that. Did you see 22 states are standing firm on the birthright citizen ship thing? His claim that the United States is the only country that does this is patently false. Let the bullshit begin.
DeleteJust read about his latest Muslim ban. Good grief.
ReplyDeleteThat was horrifying to me.
DeleteWatched a BBC House Through Time that compared 2 apartment buildings in London and Berlin during WW2. One of the German building's occupants was a teacher, and a member of the Nazi Party - which you soon had to be if you wanted to keep teaching. The Party replaced all the text books. Before Hitler, the reading primers were the usual "See Dick run" sort of stuff. Afterwards, they features little kids saluting marching troops, there were swastikas everywhere and finished with a prayer where the kids promised to love Hitler like their mother and father. There was no escape. It's not quit that extreme in red states, but I see it coming with all the book bans and refusal to buy text books with history and science school boards don't like.
ReplyDeleteThat's the scary part...is that this is the beginning. It is only the beginning.
DeleteMy FB is flooded with posts I didn't ask or subscribe for. Lots of blocking today.
ReplyDeleteI am very suddenly being inundated with a lot of obvious fake/AI posts. Are you getting that stuff as well? I did a lot of blocking too.
DeleteI have to say.. I’m pretty scared for this country! I’m avoiding the news, but I’m not sure it’s right of me-?? Last time he was running and winning I was so actively against it, by going to rallies and posting all sorts of info.. now I just feel deflated, defeated, and hopeless… the similarities to nazi germany in the 30’s have been so clear for years, and yet, here we are. I guess I’ll just keep on loving my family, friends, and neighbors. And you and your posts! Thank you again❤️XO, Rigmor
ReplyDeleteNo, no, my friend. Did you read the Substack that Cathy sent yesterday? The word of the day is 'gaman'. We need to know who we are and what we stand for and we cannot budge from that. We need to pay attention and help where we can. A lot of people are going to need us. That's where our attention needs to be. Some people will protest. Good on them. But there are other ways to help.
