You Are My Tribe

I don't have any words of wisdom. I did find some here though.

https://www.npr.org/2025/01/10/1223918045/ted-radio-hour-navigating-uncertainty.

While the tendency might be to crawl into our beds and pull the blankets over our heads, I think that is a mistake. We need to remember that there are a great many people out there who feel just as we do. We need to find our tribe. We need to encourage each other.

In the end, I think that we will discover that we are the lucky ones. We see it coming and everyone I know is trying to plan ahead. Some don't see it coming. They won't see it until it is upon them.

My plan for navigating the future is that I'm going to be very aware of what is unfolding. I will try my hardest to respond to things in a clear headed way, leaving emotion out of it as much as possible. Being mad isn't going to help us. Being afraid won't help either.

From the movie 'Second Hand Lions':

We'll be okay, people. We need to believe that, whether it is true or not, because it is the only thing worth believing in.

LATE EDIT: A member of the tribe passed along this:

  1. Today is Martin Luther King day....he is the one we should be hearing and remembering and celebrating...and acting upon his advice

    1. I have found myself wondering what MLK would have had to say to us on this day. Then I realized he has already said it.

  2. Most of what happens in the USA come here to UK at some point, we to wait and watch.

    1. I feel badly about that. It is not just the USA that will pay the price. We have unleashed our foolishness on the world.

  3. We shall not watch the farce unfold in the White House today. Knowing that Liz Truss, who couldn't outlast a lettuce, will be present is enough to put anyone off.
We came up with alternatives for MAGA - Make America Grotesque Again, and Make America Gormless Again - both most unfair to the intelligent masses of worried citizens who have to watch and wait and try to stem the idiocy of the orange one.

    1. The Orange One has opened the floodgates and his ilk is running the show now. That truly is awful. Not just for us, but for the world.

  4. I don't want to live in fear or anger for the next 4 years; I must find a place of internal peace, as I cannot live in this stirred-up state I am currently in. I was doing fine until the MAGAS gave dump credit for "restoring" TikTok. And of course Shou Chew is going to kiss dump's ass and give him credit because he HAS to, to keep TikTok going now. So the smug MAGAS can say "See? Look how great he is!" Ok, rant over. I need to see my therapist.

    1. I got over the mad. My daughter went to DC for the People's march. We all have to live our own truth, I suppose, but to me, putting my anger out there for all to see does not solve anything.

    2. My therapist would say that meeting anger with anger only magnifies it, giving it even more destructive energy. So, I need to go within to that peaceful place in me, and take actions from there.

  5. We do need each other. The fact that there are so many of us who feel the same way is my biggest comfort.

    1. We need to remember that, that we are not alone. The first step in any abusive relationship is isolating the person and making them feel as if they are adrift and alone. We are neither. Don't forget.

  6. How the USA could do this to itself beggars the imagination.

    1. What grieves me is that we seem to have visited this terrible thing on the world. Elon Musk is trying to foist his vision on to the world stage now.

  7. I'm pulling the blanket over my head today, because it is downright cold outside and not due to any particular worries about the future.

I remember really enjoying that movie. I've always enjoyed Duvall's movies.

  8. I completely agree and have been struggling and toggling back and forth with self talk. I appreciate that I have a blog community to keep me sane. Many of my friends and relatives think today is a day to celebrate. I cannot understand it.

All we can do is all we can do. I'm trying to guard my health, mental and physical, and staying away from the ignorant.

    2. You know, responsibility is the wrong word. Focus. That is the word I was looking for.

  12. I am with you, as well! There are so many other options for the day: National Geographic channel, EarthX channel, any number of channels that won't be showing the Orange Lump and his entourage ... I just started a new audiobook, I am working on a 1,000 piece puzzle 🧩, ... It's only 4° here this morning, so going out for a walk is out of the question!
Watching anything regarding the Orange Lump is off-limits today!
    ❤️ You!

  13. Whole lot of stuff running around in my head this morning, disbelief, dread, concern for the country and the rest of the world for that matter, just to name a few. I hate to say it, but what's coming makes me want to turn inward and I hate that. I take comfort that not all America wants what this creature is going to do. Life will go on and we will do all that we can do to take care of ourselves and others in our lives. We'll get through this.

    1. What choice do we have? Really? We'll get through it because there's no getting around it. Reminds me of the children's song: 'Can't go over it, can't go under it...'

  14. I plan to continue as I am. Live my life as best I can. I marched in DC in the Women's March in 2017 but I am not up to it right now. I have 2 sins who favor the current change, and one who is ambivalent. I don't talk politics with them, and don't respond to comments about why it will be good. Those who won't see will never see. Today, I am canning beans and baking, enjoying the beautiful day and keeping all news turned off.

And love! Good health! Keeping those things on top of my mind helps a lot. Thanks for all your great posts! Xo, Rigmor
