Trump's remarks during a press conference about the plane crash were, as usual, a blame game. At this point, it is the fault of the Democrats and DEI.
A friend posted her own response: "Right. Because all pilots fly with their genitals!" I said, "That's why they call it a cockpit."
You gotta laugh.
25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico start tomorrow, supposedly. 10% on China. Supposedly this is about fentanyl, but the crazy thing is that most of the stuff used to make fentanyl is coming from China. But...I suppose this makes sense to someone.
Canada responded:
Enough about that.
Yesterday was the disposition, and we went to that. We were not asked to speak during the actual session, but we did make it clear that we didn't want the focus to be on punishment. The kid has had a hard life. We wanted to see him given an opportunity to turn things around. We were pleased to discover that he's no longer in his home. A sister has taken over. She seemed to have a good head on her shoulders. He's enrolled in on-line school, and has been assessed and held back a year. He's also gotten a job. It sounds as if everything is in line to give him every opportunity to succeed, and we were glad for that.
When we were finished, I drove up to Mattie's. She'd asked if I could drive her into town. I said yes. The roads were slushy and slippery, and it really isn't a good idea to bring a buggy onto a heavily trafficked road in conditions like that.
I was amazed to see all the kids out and playing in the snow. Amos had a pony hooked up to a sled, which was pulling Rudy. A 20 foot rope went from the sled to Reuben who was on a snowboard. It was an amazing thing to see. He was flying from one bank to another, picking up speed on the way down, the momentum carrying him across the road and up the other bank. He was jumping that board and nailing his landing. I'm not sure how in the world he managed to keep his straw hat on, but he did. In the driveway, one of the girls was pulling David around. Another girl was carrying a pair of cross country skis back to the house. I got a kick out of watching them.
I had appointments today. Tim needed the car, so today, I drove my car for the first time since July, when Tim got hit in it. It sounds strange, but this is the first time that we've needed two cars in an awfully long time. It was kind of nice to be back in my own vehicle. It drove just as nicely as if ever did. Stupid little things though: I couldn't remember how to turn on the heated seats. The wiper controls are different. I got it figured out, but it made me laugh to think that my old familiar car seemed so unfamiliar.
My brother-in-law caught someone trying to steal from him. He sent him packing, but everyone knows who to watch out for now. That makes Tim and I a little bit nervous about our house across the road. Tim had been working on the Wayne St house for the day, since I was not there to help, but he wanted to go down to the new house, to check on things and also to put the motion detector lights on. We've got a lot of family in the area, and five floodlights would make it easier to see if there was someone prowling around at night.
We don't get there every single day now, so we have made a point of always making sure the cats have plenty of dry food and water set out so that we know they won't be hungry. They get canned cat food to supplement every time that we go there, at least 5 times a week. So I headed down to the garage with the cans. Since it was after dark, they were all inside, and they came when I called, all four of them. Tiger, Sigh, and Possum were very affectionate today, and I had my hands full petting cats. Minnie, as usual, watched, but seemed to sit a lot closer to the action.
So that was today.
I am woefully behind on reading blogs, but I'll get caught up this weekend. Keep on keeping on!
As I commented elsewhere today, Melbourne's first female tram driver in the '70s stated, 'I don't' need a penis to drive a tram'.
ReplyDeleteI hope the lad makes a good life for himself after a troubled childhood.
Sometimes I forget the finer details of my car's technology. But gee, what our brains have to remember compared to what had to be remembered fifty years ago, I don't think we do too badly.
I think our brains will evolutionarily race ahead in the near future.
DeleteYa think? The warning has gone out over and over about the negative impacts of screen time on brain development in children. It also has a negative impact on adult brains. Yet...
DeleteI haven't driven my car in nearly three years. I am not sure how it would feel to drive it now.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine what it would be like to live in a place that did not require a car. Tim's car is the car of choice at the moment, only because it gets better gas mileage than my car.
DeleteOne thing I am always amazed by when reading interviews with famous inventors and entrepreneurs is how many of them began to go astray in their teenage years and it was only the intervention of a neighbour, teacher or family member who was not their parent which set them back on the right path. Who knows where 'your' young man might end up in years to come?
ReplyDeleteI would love to see him get his feet under him and make a success. He's had a hard life.
DeleteI think I know which way most fentanyl crosses the border. And guns. don’t forget guns.
ReplyDeleteYou know, AC, I have to say, you boggled my mind. I had to wander off an have a good read. 90% of guns used in violent crimes in Ontario were smuggled in from the US, Ohio, Florida, Texas, and Florida being the top states involved. In 2024, 17.6 lbs of fentanyl was confiscated coming in from Canada to the US. 10.8 lbs of fentanyl was confiscated coming from the US into Canada. Fascinating. I did not know these facts. Thanks for bringing things to my attention.
DeleteThe orange dictator should do something about drug use, pain killers and guns instead of picking on his neighbours. Canada will not roll over but will fight back. Consumers have already stopped buying American. In the grocery store yesterday , I laughed as I watched an employee fill a cart with unsellable Florida oranges. They have brought in South African ones. I buy Moroccan oranges now. And Disney is advertising a very low special for Canadians. Maybe Canadians have put Disney on hold for now. Sorry Americans but your prices will be rising, not coming down with rumps crazy policies. It was nice of you to go to Court in support of your window breaker. Things are looking up for him. I have had my car for five years and just yesterday I pulled off a piece of protective plastic covering a display. I just found out what another button is for even though I have read the manual several times. Glad that your kitties are still alive and doing well, you work so hard at everything. Just saw the rump on TV saying that he has common sense, I almost peed myself laughing. My chair has more common sense. Gigi
ReplyDeleteCanada is considering a 100% tariff on Teslas, that would be nice
DeleteThere are a lot of things that Canada can slap tariffs on, and sadly, I believe that this needs to happen.
DeleteI literally could not believe what I was hearing from Trump's press conference. Even knowing how awful he is, I was surprised that he can continually reach new lows. I'll be interested to see what effect his tariffs have on prices and the markets. Will his supporters ever get to the point when they say, "Gee, maybe this wasn't such a good idea?"
ReplyDeleteI think they'll have to get far enough into the presidency that blaming the previous administration does not cut it. They will have to feel the pinch.
DeleteI never liked heated car seats as it felt weird to me.
ReplyDeleteI hope that young man has a better future.
I want to hear more stories of people standing up to that hateful man.
It's happening. It IS happening.
Delete"Leading not lying..."
ReplyDeleteThe man does not know how to lead nor does he know how not to lie. Therein lies the core of the problem.
I do not disagree with your assessment.
DeleteWhen it rains I have to figure out the windshield wipers all over again. They are different than any other vehicle I've had.
ReplyDeleteI had to call home and ask Tim how to turn off the wipers on his car the first time I used it. Now that I'm used to it, it took me a while to figure out my own wipers.
DeleteAm pleased to hear the kittens came to you.
ReplyDeleteThe tariffs can lead only to problems.
Bring it on...MAGA needs to feel the pinch too.
DeleteI'm glad the little cats are well and responsive.
ReplyDeleteThe odious orange one's reaction to the plane/helicopter crash was disgusting.
It was pretty awful.
DeleteSo good to hear the kittens are safe and sound. A truly uplifting bit of good news!
ReplyDeleteThese last two weeks have been horribly stressful with all the chaos and evil coming out of Washington, DC.
It IS stressful.
DeleteHappy to hear the kittens will get close to you again. Little buggers are ruled by their stomachs. Amish kids have a very different childhood than the English. Theirs sounds a lot healthier. You did a good thing helping the young man who broke the window. Here's hoping he can find the path to a better life, and stay on it.
ReplyDeleteThey sure are ruled by their stomachs. Wait until you see today's pictures.
DeleteI road in the back seat of my son's new SUV. He asked if I liked the heated seats. I felt like I'd pooped in my pants.
ReplyDeletetRump was a reject dropped off by the UFOs. I'm not sure Repubs will ever understand or learn. It's sickening.
Consider getting some version of a Ring doorbell/camera for your new place. Stay safe. I'm exhuasted just reading all you do in a day.
Linda in Kansas
LOL. I have never felt that I pooped my pants. I love my seat warmer. It feels like a giant heating pad on my back.
DeleteWe cannot get a ring doorbell. We are in a 'dead area', with no internet access at the new house. We could always sign up for Starlink, which requires quite an initial investment, but I prefer not to do business with The First Buddy.
Trump doesn't know and wouldn't care that almost 100% of the potash used in fertilizer for American farmers comes from Canada. It will now have a 25% tariff on it. He doesn't seem to understand (too stupid I'm thinking) that tariffs are paid by the people who live in the US, not Canadians. There's lot more but I just shake my head.
ReplyDeleteI wonder who will be doing the low paid work (slave wages) when the undocumented workers are sent back home.
30 states get electricity from the Canadian grid. The refinery in my own home town gets its oil from the a terminal in West Seneca NY, which gets its crude from (you guessed it) Canada. I believe/fervently home that Canada does hit back and hard, because to be perfectly honest, Pixie, the only way people are going to wake up is when they are negatively affected by his policies. They are perfectly happy to see other people struggle because in their minds, they 'deserve it'. I've seen that mind set over and over again. It is going to have to affect them, personally.
DeletePete for president. I feel about him as I did about Obama when he addressed the DNC the first time.
ReplyDeleteMe, too.
DeleteIf democracy holds, if we ever have another election, I believe that we will see Pete Buttigieg take the presidency one day. It may not be in my lifetime, but I believe that it will happen.
DeleteI have hope for that young man, he seems to be on a better trajectory. I have no earthly idea why that Orange fool has started a trade war, other than my standard refrain that he is too stupid to realize that that trade agreement he "negotiated" during his 1st term resulted in exactly the opposite effect than he was blathering about at the time. We're all gonna suffer. Crap.
ReplyDeleteYes we are. The interesting thing is that Trump repeatedly derided Obama's executive orders (108 over 3 years) as a sign of a "weak president who did not know how to negotiate". Contrast that to Trump's 220 during his first four years. He's probably going to beat that record, having signed 45 of them in less than two weeks this time around. You're right. We ARE all going to suffer.
DeleteYeah he really doesn't seem to understand the economics of tariffs, does he. And the blame on the back of a disaster is just sickening.
ReplyDeleteRemember the old days, when a leader collected that facts before addressing the nation? Yeah. Good times, good times. Now every disaster becomes an opportunity to push his own agenda, truth and facts be damned.
