Quote for today: We need to observe what is happening while not being absorbed by it.
Today was another working day. We finished the trim around the ceiling in the living room/kitchen area. The main purpose of that was to clear off a pile of boards in front of the sliding doors. We're freeing up floor space to start putting down the floor tomorrow. We both think that the wood flooring will match very nicely with the ceramic 'slate look' floor. That's always nice, figuring out that for all our dumbing around, we seem to be doing okay for rank amateurs.
We are both excited about our work tomorrow.
Sounds stupid, but we spent quite a bit of time choosing our grout color. We wound up ordering it because the store did not have what we finally settled on. But, it was a good match.
We putzed around most of the afternoon cutting boards and hanging boards and then studying the floor and then moving stuff out of our way in preparation for tomorrow.
We knocked off a bit early. I needed to pick up some produce from the grocery store. I've been going great guns on the salad lately, and have a huge one for supper. We weren't quite sure when the big storm was supposed to hit, so we knocked off at 2-ish.
Something that is interesting is that the deer were everywhere, along the road, up on the banks. Tim said, "They know the weather's going to get bad. They are feeding before it hits." Interesting to me that animals seem to know.
Well...except for the starlings. They're back from where ever they go for winter. When we got home, our big maple trees were filled with birds, noisy and flittering about. Just in time for the storm. But it is a hopeful sign, isn't it?
Once again, I must bring up
Boud over at Field and Fen (fieldfen.blogspot.com). I admire her. She does a good job of finding a balance in all of this. She creates, she reacts, she interacts. She always gives an idea of something we can do, which I like.
We are all trying for balance. We are all looking for a bit of peace within the chaos. The fact is that we will. We'll find our footing. It will It may not feel as if we are doing anything, but...
I will admit to being very concerned about the concessions we have received from Russia through Belarus. I just don't think that they would have given us any concessions without some sort of promises made. The fact that Ukraine was not involved in the discussion is not a good sign.
But...

I forgot to show you my great find from Saturday. We always stop in at the Goodwill, when I am driving for the Amish. It was 50% off everything in the store, something that I'd forgotten, but nobody else seemed to. People were standing in line at the door. Mattie and Iva were not sure they wanted to get out of the car. But...we did.
I found this light for the Wayne St rehab. It was in an opened box, tucked way under a rack of clothes. I almost missed it. It is new. All the pieces were wrapped in their original plastic. The interior box that contained the glass shade had never been opened. $7.50, folks. I was pleased.
So was Tim.
Kay of Musings: I really like your slate flooring, and admire all the work you’re doing.
ReplyDeleteI can’t believe they put Tulsi in charge of intelligence. It’s insane. She’s from Hawaii. We know what she is. And we knew that Trump was buddies with Putin. They are two likeminded dictators.
I will never forget his unrecorded call with Putin during the last debacle. He hung up and immediately ordered our troops out of Syria even as Russia was massing at the border. They marched in as we marched out. That was not a coincidence. We betrayed a trust there. I will never forget that.
DeleteIf the EU doesn't step up, Putin and Trump are going to carve Ukraine up like a turkey. Trump is already saying he wants their minerals, they owe him, he says. These are indeed times that try peoples' souls. The tile looks great, you did such a nice job with that.
ReplyDeleteThat is the plan.
DeleteThe tile looks beautiful, in contrast to the ugliness going on in the US. Where are the cooler heads which should prevail?
ReplyDeleteThe last article displays some of them.
DeleteI can't wait to see your flooring completed. It looks just wonderful! You are nearing the finish line! And what a deal on the lighting fixture!!! You were at the right place at the right time!
ReplyDeleteOh, Miss Merry...not even close. We've got the drain lines run, but we haven't yet run the pex tubing for the water. I will not consider us nearing the finish line until I turn on a water spigot!
DeleteI heard what that idiot said about Ukraine today & I damn near threw up. He is a Russian asset and for that matter so is Gabbard. I don't know what Putin has on him, but I'm betting it's pretty bad. On a brighter note, your tile looks really really good, the trim sets it off well. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteNikolai Petrushev, Secretary of the Russian Security Council: "To achieve success in the elections, Donald Trump relied on certain forces to which he has corresponding obligations." (Newsweek, November 12th). What do you think that means?
DeleteIt means Putin has got something really bad on tRump and he'll use it to make that fool do whatever he wants. I give you Helsinki. I've got a meme on that but I don't want to offend you or other readers here so I won't share it.
DeleteI think that it is referring to election interference, plain and simple. "To achieve success in the elections" is pretty straightforward. He relied on their forces to make that happen, and now he has obligations to be met.
DeleteWe have a few starlings that stay all winter. They are tough birds.
ReplyDeleteReally? That's interesting, Red! I thought they all migrated. There sure were a lot of them in the trees today. They sure are not on any endangered lists!
DeleteGosh, that lamp was a real bargain. Well spotted. I hope the snow storm isn't too bad. I keep seeing dire snow reports for next week - just as we need to get to near London for our holiday flight.
ReplyDeleteI am glad I am mostly avoiding the news as frightening things happening in this world - mostly with Trump wanting to own half of it!
Tim has become quite addicted to it. He'd watch it 24/7. I just cannot. When the news shows a clip of JD Vance making an undeniably false statement and then moves on to something else without pointing out that it is an undeniably false statement, well...what is the point of watching the news?
DeleteWell the EU have made a stand to support Ukraine, and that includes us in the UK. I love the flooring, nothing can beat elegant grey.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually more brown with gray and rust colored variations through it. But it really does match up pretty nicely. These are the exciting things. A lot more satisfying than drywall!
DeleteThe flooring looks so attractive. It's a positive in these damning days.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh in incredulity at Carter's motion to rename Greenland as Red White and Blue Land, and 47's renaming of the Gulf of Mexico being more important than the Super Bowl.
We all have to look for the happies in our own life. It's a hard balance for me, and I haven't mastered it yet: keeping an eye on the big picture but remembering to celebrate the small stuff. The amount of fawning adoration that is going on is really incredible. When I first read that at Mary Moon's, I thought for sure and for certain that it was a joke.
DeleteI read a version of this post in Feedly in which you wrote that you didn't know how to insert a video. Between then and now, you figured it out.
ReplyDeleteI sure did figure it out, and I am not going to tell you how embarrassingly long it took me to do so. (But...you can probably guess that it was embarrassingly long....)
ReplyDeleteGood job on the light fixture! I think that's nicer than any of the fixtures in our flat.
ReplyDeleteI think it makes sense to be concerned about Russia.
What we do with Russia has a huge impact on Europe.
DeleteThe light fitting is an amazing find. No wonder you were both so pleased with it.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe it myself.
DeleteThinking about Putin and Trump conniving together is literally making my stomach hurt.
ReplyDeleteYeah. It does. The world can agree he's an awful person until our government says he's not.
DeleteJust when we think it can't get worse, it sounds like it is getting much worse. I'm glad to read of those fighting back.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the flooring!
Well, we will have to wait on the flooring. Seems like Tim is going to be awfully persnickety about that floor. Best for me to stay out of his way until he gets over persnickety.
DeleteI have found myself going down music rabbit holes on YouTube to find the balance. Great Goodwill find and the house is really starting to come together. Awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteI just read. I read and read. I'm not sure it's helping though. Maybe I'll try music. :)
DeleteJust what secrets has the arse sold to Russia and for how much. Putin plays him like a puppet. Putin and all world leaders know flattering the rump will get you what you want. He is truly dangerous. Why don’t the Americans that didn’t vote for trump, target the red states like Canadians are doing, stop buying Florida OJ, and booze from red states. Don’t travel to Florida etc. I understand Canadian boycotts are having an impact. Can you imagine if non trump Americans joined in on our boycots.
ReplyDeleteThat was from Gigi
DeleteIt really isn't so easily done. Things aren't marked 'from Minnesota' or 'from Oregon'. Out of country, yes, but within country, not so much. There is a boycott where they want everyone to simply not spend money on February 28th, if they can manage it. No gas. No shopping. No eating out. In a red county like mine, I'm pretty sure that it won't make one whit of difference, but in a place like Pittsburgh or Philadelphia or other urban areas, it could have quite an impact.
DeleteYour tile and grouting look fabulous! Well done, you! And staying out of persnickety’s way sounds like the right idea…
ReplyDeleteI like the pink hues in the tiles.
