Getting things done.

Well, the news of the day: when I went down to feed the ferals, I was, for the first time in forever, feeding four of them. Yep! Sigh was back! He was the first one down the ladder to meet me. I thought it was him, but I didn't want to get too excited. He and Possum look very alike, except that Sigh is smaller and Possum has a black spot next to his nose. So...I kept talking as I do, filling their water dish and checking the heat. I sat down to feed them, and sure enough, there were two Siamese-y looking cats, four blue eyes staring earnestly at me, waiting for their canned catfood. Min and Tiger joined the party in pretty short order.

The other news is that Min is finally warming up and allows a little petting. It's about time, don't you think?

Today was a supply day. We needed to run to the plumbing supply place in Titusville to pick up the rest of what we need for both the rehab and for the new house. Tim said, "Is there anything that you can eat at Burger King?"

The fact is, I haven't eaten lunch in a couple of weeks. I eat a late breakfast, heavy on the protein: Two hardboiled eggs, an avocado, a slice of wheat bread with peanut butter, and a cup of plain yogurt with blueberries, along with my cup of coffee. For less than 600 calories, I have a meal that carries me all day until supper. I have a disgustingly large salad with whatever I have in the vegetable drawer. That's my food intake for the day, along with a couple thousand ml of water. I am trying to avoid medication, and that has been quite a powerful motivator for me.

So...I suggested that Tim go to Burger King and have a leisurely lunch while I went across the street and had a leisurely stroll at a thrift store, which he thought was a dandy idea.

Much to my delight, they had a sale going on. Anything with a gray tag was 79 cents. I headed straight over to the boys' section. William is at an age where cool clothing is a very big deal, and I watch what kids his age are wearing very carefully.

I knew that he needed sweatpants for gym. I'd bought two pair last month, but today, I found two more pair with good labels and the tapered legs he likes so much. I found two pair of shorts and picked up 5 shirts. I was tickled with my finds. Regular price was $62. for everything. Today it came to $7. Quite a nice haul. (As Merry would phrase it, I 'accidently' picked up a baking dish and two games as well.)

Steve? Do London foxes do this? To be honest, I've never heard this before.

My brother-in-law and sister are having some difficulties. A local miscreant was caught taking down their fence, presumably to sell the t-posts. He was hard at it in broad day light. Dave was home and caught him redhanded, sent him packing with a stern warning that he wasn't going to call the police this time, but the next time, the law would be involved.

Well, of course, the man (being a butthead) began to commit acts of vandalism on their property. They never saw him, but they followed his tracks in the snow back to his property. As promised, the police were called.

The official law response was that they'd been looking for him, but hadn't been able to locate him. Dave snorted. "He's right down at ----------'s trailer!"

The police drove down and knocked on the door. The woman who cracked open the door claimed she 'hadn't seen him for quite awhile'. In the background, the little voice of her daughter piped up: "He's right here, Mom!!!!"

From the mouth of babes.

So that's about it, really. Taking a break from the news, but that was today.

    1. You're right. It does seem to be effective. At my last appointment the weight loss was commented on as 'not an insignificant weight loss'.

  2. Foxes scream. It's unnerving for anyone unfamiliar, sounds like a person in trouble. I'm guessing it relates to mating.

  3. It's very frustrating when the bad guys terrorize regular law abiding people.

    1. It's not so much that he was terrorizing. He was just being a nuisance. I mean, what kind of 40+ year old man has time to spend just sneaking around and doing damage?

  4. Excellent clothing haul. William will be pleased.

    1. I was pretty pleased. From what I heard, there was a thumbs down on one shirt. Everything else met his exacting standards.

  6. Sigh is back! Yay for the cat surviving. I did not know foxes made that noise. Rabbits have a horrible scream, it's blood curdling. Breakfast sounds good. How do you make your yogurt? Pot or yogurt maker with the little glass jars? That guy taking down your sister's fence in broad daylight is pretty brazen.

    1. I have a yogurt maker with the glass jars. They are a dime a dozen on e-bay. Just bring your milk up to 185, let it cool to 120, and then stir in your last pot of yogurt from the previous batch. Once it is blended, just fill the glass jars. I always put add a half can of evaporated milk. It makes the yogurt thicker, more like greek yogurt. My favorite way to have it was with a drizzle of honey and some flax seeds. Can't do that anymore.

Strangest thing about the situation, Allison. The guy is not a kid. This is a full grown man. He is the boyfriend of the mother of one of the window breakers here in town. There is quite a drug history on both sides, as well as a pretty long criminal history of stealing. The kid came by his dishonest behavior honestly, don't you think? They were 'squatting' in a bank owned house. The bank was informed they were living there, and were pretty shocked.

  7. I think that is the funniest and most satisfying story I have read all day, Debby! Good for the little girl, who has not yet learned to lie like her mama.
Nice thrift finds too. I have forgotten how it is to shop for kids, and these days they are so picky! We had to wear what we were given, or make our own when we got old enough. And my boys, well, everyone wore jeans and flannel shirts back then. Except the youngest, who was unbelievably picky! Which was hard because we couldn't afford high priced clothes. So it was Gabe's or thrifts, and very careful shopping. He was spoiled, frankly, but coming 13 years after the others he was like an.only child.

    1. We had a good laugh over it too.

We didn't have the money to do it when our oldest child was young, but for my two youngest kids, I was able to take from their child support and give them a very generous allowance. The only proviso was, they had to pay for their lives. We still paid for their food and for their medical expenses and stuff like that, but they bought their clothes. They paid for their own entertainment. It was very interesting that they both learned to be very sensible with money. My son was a worker. He always had a couple jobs to supplement his income. He had a Camaro and the Fossil watches and the fancy sneakers. But... he lived within his means, and he learned that designer jeans were stupid, because you could buy a nice teeshirt and no body saw the labels anyways.

My daughter was different. She did not want to work while she was in high school. She packed her lunch every day, was a thrift shopper and lived within her means.

They both carry the lessons to this day.

  8. Great job at the thrift store! It is amazing how those things accidentally just jump in the cart. I took my granddaughter thrifting this past summer. She is a teen and very label conscious. She found great things for herself, her brother and her mom. My middle son takes his boys to visit thrift stores when they travel for sports. They collect those authorized sports jerseys and you would be surprised at how many they have found. The thrill of the hunt!!!

    1. It wouldn't surprise me at all. What surprises me, really, are the brand new things, still with their tags, in a thrift store. Nice things! I wonder how people can afford to be so picky!
