Today, I was pouring the candy into a bowl for the trick or treaters. We don't get a whole lot of them, living on a street with poor participation, but we like to have a bowl full of candy just in case. I cut open the bags and poured the chocolate into the bowl. This year it was Mounds bars and Kitkats.
The kitkats reminded me of Weaver of Grass blog (Pat Thistlethwaite) and her love of two finger Kitkats, so I snitched one of those bars and ate it thinking of her. I miss her. I miss her blog, her unfailing kindness and her gentle reminisces of days gone by.
As I walked out to set the bowl of candy on the newel post in the foyer, and to turn on the outside lights, it struck me. Today would have been her birthday!
Dios de los muertos... Samhain...the day to remember with good memories of those who have left us this year past.
ReplyDeleteBlessings Be x
And to you also.
DeleteShe was a gentle soul with a steel spine.
ReplyDeleteShe was made of sturdy stuff...that British stiff upper lip personified.
DeleteYes, she liked kit kats and it's a surprise to me that her birthday is today. My daughter's birthday was yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI remember that.
DeleteShe taught me that getting old doesn't mean you stop learning or being curious.
ReplyDeleteShe taught me that 'old' happens when we stop learning or being curious.
DeleteHappy Birthday Pat, I expect she is out there reading our blogs. Her spirit lives on.
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice thought.
DeleteI miss her too.
ReplyDeleteWhen a person works their way into our morning routine, we do feel their absence.
DeleteI thought of Pat when shopping for Halloween candy when I saw the Kit Kats. And I knew her birthday was in October, but had forgotten it was the 31st. I miss her. I hope one day her son decides to open up her blog again so we can go back and "visit" with her occasionally. I admired her and her gentle wisdom.
ReplyDeleteI doubt that I'll ever see a kitkat and NOT think of her.
DeleteJennifer, I learned from another commenter that you can see Pat's Blog on the web archive. On the lower right hand side of her page are links to all of her Posts. Here is the link:

Happy Birthday, Pat! I think of you each day I check my Blog list!
Thank you for that link again, Ellen.
DeleteThan you for remembering Pat. i read her blog for many years.
ReplyDeleteShe had quite a following of devoted readers.
DeleteI'm partial to kit kats too though I have a daughter and a MIL who compete for them. So I usually buy mine in these days after Halloween when excess candy goes on sale and stash them in my garage somewhere.
ReplyDeleteLOL. If you're going to have a 'stash' in the garage, Kitkats seem fairly innocuous!
DeleteSo kind of you to remember Pat. We all miss her to be sure. I too bought a mixed bag of candy bars for Halloween, spotted the Kit Kats and thought of her immediately. Sadly, I'm celiac and can't enjoy one in her honor, but did enjoy handing them out to the little tyrants at my door last night.
ReplyDeleteLol. I enjoy the little tyrants.
DeleteI love how we all remember Pat when we have our two finger Kit Kats. I miss her too as well as John from Beans and I on the loose whom you introduced me too. I’m so glad I downloaded his books though I miss his pictures. Too bad Pat or family couldn’t have made an ebook out of all her great reminiscences. Lini from Petaluma
ReplyDeleteIt does just pop into my head every. single. time.
DeleteI ate a KitKat yesterday too but I had forgotten it was Pat's Birthday. Thanks for the reminder, Debby!
ReplyDeleteIt just popped into my head as I was wandering out with my bowl of candy. Does anyone remember how old she would have been? 93?
DeleteShe was special, one of those ageless people that all can enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYou said it well.
DeleteYes, I miss her and her musings very much. I wish I had .we her in person when we were in England--we passed within just a few miles of her home. But I got the feeling from her blog that she wasn't keen on strangers coming to visit, and she was so elderly. But what an intelligent, determined and thoughtful person she was.
ReplyDeleteLi did try to make arrangements to see her when I was there as well. It wasn't to be.
DeleteI bought Kit kat bones (white) and they are habit forming. I didn't have as many trick or treaters as anticipated so now I have too many temptations! I never encountered Pat and it sounds like I missed out.
ReplyDeleteShe shared a marvelous perspective from a life that spanned 9 decades.
DeleteI'm afraid I didn't know Pat and you can't visit her blog unless you've gotten permission. She sounds like she was a wonderful blogger. I loved Kit Kats but have to be careful of my carbs now. Sigh...
