For Jeanie

This is a tree stand, Jeanie. It locks on to the side of the tree and allows the hunter to sit higher up so that he can see the deer moving. It also makes the hunter's scent a bit harder for the deer to detect.

Once the stand is up a tree, one needs a way to get to it. Carrying a ladder with your gun or bow is kind of difficult in the woods. Plus you make a great deal of noise, so...climbing sticks, which also lock on to the tree.

Once hunting season is over, you can just take down your stand and your sticks and bring everything home. The tree is none the worse for wear.

    1. All will be answered. (As long as I know what the question is...)

  2. My friend's guy is 100% into his tree stand every fall, and now I have a more realistic picture of it. Thank you!

  3. I find dozens of those things every spring when I am out in the woods mushroom hunting. I assume many were just forgotten about or weren't worth removing after the deer had been shot.

    1. I would be tempted to climb up and sit a while to see what would come by of animals if I found one. .

    2. I guess a sign that I'm getting older, but most of them look as if I would be risking a broken bone or tempting death if I tried climbing up and sitting in the chair.

    3. Oh, Tim hasn't gotten to that point yet, but his son said that the stand should not be too high, so that Tim doesn't fall out of the tree.

    4. Oh, and KJ? NOT a good idea. If those things spend a winter in the woods, water gets in the frame and freezes, which cracks the frame. They are dangerous. Ask me how I know this? Two boys and one forgotten tree stand.

  4. That's a well-thought-out strategy.

  5. I've didn't know they had those. The only deer stands I've seen are permanent. Cool.

    1. Tim has a number of tree stands. I do not know what the difference is though.

    1. It seems like it would be, but I'm not inclined to climb a tree and find out. I'll bet you could take nice pictures from there, though. (Hint, hint).

    1. To be honest, I have never heard them called that, so I wasn't quite sure either, but there it is. All is answered. :)

  8. I figured it had to do with hunting, but those are great! Removable and reusable, and the seat looks comfy! Happy hunting to Tim… -Rigmor

    1. He is pleased with it. Surprisingly, it was a freeby. My son lent a tree stand to his son, which was stolen, so his son bought my son a new stand. However my son was just graduated from college and had a job in the big city, so that tree stand has never been taken out of its box, but has moved 4 times. Now it is back home where it came from, and my son is glad to have it gone!

  9. I've always suspected that hunting is just an excuse to go sit in a tree, and now I know it.

    1. LOL. Perhaps it's an excuse for a nice walk in the woods.

  10. I'm glad the tree isn't hurt. I'd have a hard time with that since I need to get to the bathroom quite often.

    1. Oh, Tim would probably just stand and pee off the stand. He doesn't stand on ceremony.

I'm glad you're here!
