Quiet Day

Tim had a much better day today. He was able to sleep last night, and I think that you can deal with discomfort better when you are not exhausted.

We had a quiet day. He installed at doorknob at the new build. He sealed around the stove pipe to keep critters and weather out of the basement. Little things, but I think every touch of normality makes him feel better. He is not pushing to do things that he shouldn't. I think that Sunday scared him a little.

I spent the time working at my compost and closing up for winter in the camper,

That's it really. A quiet day.

I'm trying to order Christmas gifts for my son-in-law and daughter. I knew what I wanted to get, but am having one heck of a time actually accomplishing it. Wish I could fly over, pick up the things and deliver them to their house. (I can dream, can't I?)

Today, for lunch, we had grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. Remember 'Beans and I on the Loose?' I made my cheese sandwiches the way John did, and I thought of him. He was quite a character and so was his cat, Beans. I miss reading his blog every morning.

So. That was today.

  1. I also miss reading about their adventures every day!! I don't remember reading about how he made his cheese sandwiches, please tell us? I hope Beans is doing alright.

    1. He spread his bread with mayonaise, instead of butter.

    1. I really loved his ghost towns, last summer. Even my husband got interested in that.

  4. Tim was occupied and that's the main thing. Mayo on bread instead of butter sounds ok to me.

    1. You are right about that. Idle Tims are not fun.

  5. I remember now. Toasted cheese and mayo sandwiches - when I worked on the farm we had a worker who brought in sandwiches like that for his lunch and toasted them on an upturned electric fire. They always smelled good. It still doesn't seem right without John's observations on life waiting for me each morning

  6. I used to spread a little Marmite on the bread for toasted cheese sandwiches. Gave it a bit of a kick.

    1. Believe it or not, I have a jar here. I haven't quite got the nerve to open it.

  7. As I have gotten older, I have had to eschew melted cheese. I miss that as a concept (although better to yearn than suffer the consequences - an adage that should apply to many things...) Glad that Tim got to do a little and garner the joy of that.

    1. That was accidental, jabblog. If I have time, I will see if I can add that. Another blogger suggested that some time back.

  9. I never read Beans and I on the Loose but now I wish I had. Sounds like a lovely blog.
May Tim get better every day.

  10. If you google "Beans and I on the Loose", there are his books still available for free for those that haven't read him.
Glad Tim is keeping busy with the small tasks that need doing and he is getting more sleep.

    2. I was able to download John's books, and would be more than happy to share. The books are in pdf format.

    3. really? I did not know that you could do that. If you post them here, I will make a dedicated post to them so that other people can read them. I appreciate it. If you'd rather not post have them posted like that, you can e-mail them to me and I will use them for my own purposes. You know how to find my e-mail, right?

    4. Will email the files to you, ok?

    5. Please feel free to share the files of John's books.

    7. No, my initials are AK. I sent the first email to the address in your profile. Am resending to the same address.

  11. I also miss Beans and John's fun adventures. Simple life and good vibes. Glad to hear Tim has accomplished some things that don't stress his body...which is continuing to heal. I've never tried mayo on toasted cheese sandwiches, but do melt cheese on just about anything.

  14. It's good that Tim is doing the little things. They're usually necessary, but get pushed to the back by the big things.

  15. Those little jobs that take far too long at the end of a build...well done Tim for dealing with those!

    1. We're nowhere close to the end of either project, but we are at a place where both of them can be shut down for the winter. They will keep.

  17. So happy to hear you’re both doing well. And you’re so sweet to care for the mama cat and her kittens! I also miss the Beans and I posts.. Here in the Hudson Valley we had a summerly day, which I spent cleaning our porch- so happy to have that done, finally! Life goes on, so many of the things you ‘have to’ do are in reality ‘want to’ do’s! But it keeps us feeling in control, and that’s a good thing. Glad Tim is able to carry on with some things! Best wishes from Ricki😊

  19. I can't thank you enough for introducing me to John and Beans. Ever since you mentioned them I've followed their travels and downloaded all his e-books. It really made me sad when he died and I still miss him. I was so grateful that I read the comments in his blog before his wife took it down. It would have been so hard not knowing what happened to him. I love your blog too and read it everyday. So glad your husband is doing well- and you as well. Take care and again, thank you. 1. Without going into a lot of it, his wife really felt that she had no choice. I don't blame her. I think in blogland, people develop 'friendships' and they think that they know the person better than they actually do. She was taking a lot of flack from the readers who loved John and Beans. She is a woman dealing with grief, and she did not need to be attacked.

    2. I totally agree Debby--- people were not being nice-not all of them but some. I can understand why she wouldn't need the hassle but I do miss being able to look at his pictures when I read his books. But I guess they're gone forever- at least on blogland. Maybe she could have just disabled all the comments. Lini from Petaluma (who doesn't know how to do anything technical-like go from anonymous!!)

Getting Things Done

Today was a banner day in a lot of ways.  We have a roof that was partially replaced on a rental. The bad side required immediate attention...
