I am ashamed

*wince*

I am ashamed to report that I ordered something from Amazon.

We bought a drone for William that needed a smart device. The screen got cracked on his last Amazon Fire, but I thought that would be perfect for using with the drone.

We decided to buy him a new tablet but wanted to stick with the same brand, since that is what he is comfortable with.  Only one place to get the Amazon Fire, and that is from the evil empire itself.

It was my first order since last summer.  On the plus side, the tablet was $79.99 for their black Friday sale. I had $6.31 of unused points. They took $19.08 off for a gift card. Dunno. Did not know I had one, but I'm all about subtracting.

I also have been carrying a credit on that credit card of $16.00 for months now.

That took a bit of the sting away and once we're zeroed out, we will simply not use the card again.

LATE EDIT: There is no shame in buying from Amazon for anybody but me...I am a bit bullheaded.

  1. Oh, honey. If Amazon is the devil, we're all going to hell.

  2. I recall you had trouble with an Amazon order or a dishonest card before, but no need to be ashamed. Looks like you got your purchase almost down to zero. That's pretty good with Amazon. Linda in Kansas

    1. Where Amazon made their 'mistake' was assuring me over and over that the third party was wrong and would be made to honor their warranty. They did not do that. Moreover, by the time it was done, the rep told me to my face I was lying.

  3. I'm with Mary. This old lady avoids real stores. First I must unpack and set up my walker. Then fight with non automatic doors. When I'm done, back out the doors, fold the walker, put it in the back seat, "walk" the car back to the driver's seat, blablabla. I save my energy for going to the doctor.

    1. I am not saying nobody should use Amazon. I just won't.

  4. Your first order since last summer? Don't be ashamed, be proud of yourself--I'm impressed! :^)

  5. It pays to be a mathematician when you're shopping.

    1. I still don't know what the gift card balance was. Strangest thing.

  6. I'm afraid I did quite a bit of Amazon shopping to send to my grandsons. I couldn't help it. It's so much easier. Sigh... I have sinned.

  7. Sometimes you just have to dance with the devil.

  8. I have used Amazon three times. (And the last time they sent the incorrect item)
It wasn't easy any of those times, and like you it is against my principles. If I have to go online I try and go direct..so with the fire stick you had no choice.

    1. We got William an Amazon Fire. That way he can use his old one outside to receive the drone video.

  9. I don't expect William will be worrying too much about 'evil empires' while he's flying his drone.

    1. He will have to spend some time learning to fly it, but the pictures will be fun.

  10. I hope William enjoys his drone - that should make you feel better.

  11. Compromise is the word, and you had unused credits to use up, so it seems to make sense to me, esp. with the Black Friday deal. A certain young man will be delighted anyway.

    1. He will be. So will the rest of the kids we buy for. We found some very neat things. I think they will all be pretty excited about their things.

  12. I started ordering from Amazon in 1996, before the company went public. I love Amazon, I love Walmart, AND I love to shop local businesses. It's just whatever works for the individual.

    1. Exactly. I choose not to shop Amazon for a reason that is valid to me, and me alone. Most of our shopping had been done locally this year. We did put in a Cabela's order, and I ordered some STEM supplies for the Amish kids and for my grand daughter from TeacherSource (shout out! Very good quality stuff and at reasonable prices!) I got some very cool things from there, things that will prompt a lot of questions from Iris. Her parents have been forewarned.

  13. Well, I'm sorry you had to break your embargo, only because it bothers you. But it's great that you used up that credit!

  14. It is something we knew we had to sort out at some point. It was a good discount on the tablet though. Back to the embargo.

  15. I avoid A because I always end up having to spend ages cancelling Prime.

  16. Lol. You and my husband. And his response is always the same. "They asked me if I wanted free shipping... "

  17. Amazon and other online purchases are pretty well what we live on. In my favour is that I avoid the other evil empire, WM. 😎

  18. I don't think there is any shame for you either. I've had a boycott of Walmart for nearly three decades now. But I've had to occasionally buy things for other people because that is where they wanted me to go and on a few rare occasions, I've had to buy something for myself because I had no other choice. But I always focus on the bigger picture on how much I haven't spent at Walmart over those three decades and it is a lot more significant than that amount I have spent there.

I'm glad you're here!

While we are on the subject of fashion, I have to tell  you, when I read about this, I thought for sure that it was one of those bogus news...
