Happy Stories

"This is not right or left. This is right or wrong." Cory Booker, March 31st.

Cory Booker is filibustering on the floor of the senate right now, and vows to continue as long as he is physically able.

Back the video up to the beginning to listen, otherwise it will take forever to buffer.

Please stop what you are doing and go here to thank him:

We got the sink cut out of the counter top.  Tim stressed mightily about this. If he would have screwed it up, it would have been a $400 loss. He measured, and measured again. I measured and measured again too. Finally, there was nothing left to do but to cut. He did. We set it all in place, dropped the sink in and it was perfect. The putty is curing right now.

Tomorrow we meet at the lawyer's office with the woman buying our house. Hopefully, once our lawyer knows what we need, he will be able to draw up a contract fairly quickly. I know that Mia is chomping at the bit to get started. Tomorrow, we will go over to the house with her. We're going to mark the wiring for her, so that she knows what wire does what. It will make it easier for her. She also wants to do some measuring and get some numbers.

It's also a big day for our new tenant as well. She is officially moving in tomorrow. We'll have to meet up with her as well at some point.

Daffodils are out!

We all need happy stories. Feel free to add your own happies in the comments.

And finally, just for laughs.

  1. Go Cory, Go Cory, Go Cory!!!!
It is wonderful everything is falling in place - including the new sink!
I have some mixed happy stories: An extended family member had a bad fall last night, went to hospital, then bigger hospital, leg surgery this morning, but doing good! Another extended family member had a heart procedure this morning - and is doing really good. My daughter got a huge back child support payment which is comforting in this economy. So that's my three good things - I'll take that.

    1. I'll celebrate your three things right along with you! I do have a question though...does falling run in your family? Have a good evening, Merry!

  4. Debby, I've been appreciating your posts for many months now. The practicality and grace with which you approach life is so refreshing. Tonight I had to stop lurking and say THANK YOU for the links to Cory Booker's filibuster. This is good trouble indeed. I too emailed him from red, red Idaho, to let him know that even here there are a lot of people standing with him. "This is not right or left. This is right or wrong." Yes.

    1. Yay! Glad you are here, Chris. Also glad you emailed him. Tonight I will sit down and compose another letter to Glenn Thompson and John Fetterman who seem to have forgotten why they were elected. I will point to Cory Booker's example.

  5. The first video can't be watched here but I read the link.
Your sink is like how I felt last year when I bought a new fridge. Myself and one of my tenants measured a dozen times, yet when it arrived, I was sure it would not fit. It did, with about 30mm to spare. That would be about one and quarter of an inch.
I hope it all goes well tomorrow. I reckon both parties will be very happy.

    1. He was so nervous. We were cutting from the reverse side, which had us really second guessing ourselves.

  9. What a relief to have the sink in, and all's well! Measure twice, maybe thrice, and cut once, always good advice. My happy is my group of women friends, my army, with whom I spent the day yesterday. All growth-minded, all working on different types of freedom. We encourage and support each other, laugh and cry together, learn new things and bolster each other when we falter. Their love and help saved me last year, from the depths of hell, and I am forever grateful.

  10. First video was unavailable for me and Newsweek would not let me in, bit I could thank Cory! The video of the little girl in the program was hysterical!! Glad the sink was perfectly fit. I'm sure the lady is excited to begin her adventure in the new home!!

    1. It was strange that the video went to private. It was not so when I posted it. I laugh at that child every time I watch that video. She gets quite animated.

  11. Booker is my Senator, and this Senate floor speech ( not a filibuster, there's no vote impending, just a vital lengthy delay of Senate business) shows who ought to replace Schumer!

    1. I stand corrected. I should have used quotation marks around the word as the news outlets are doing. You must be so proud to have a senator who is willing to carry the concerns of his constituents to the Capitol. I thought that was why we elected John Fetterman, but I stand corrected on that too.

  12. Looks like the horses ass is backing down on most tariffs but its too late, the damage with Canada is done. We now know America can not be trusted and is no longer an ally. Now the rump is turning everything around saying he will put on reciprocal tariffs but he is the one talking tariffs, not us. He has once again screwed up. What a big baby loser bully. He picked the wrong fight going after Mexico and Canada. We have intelligent leaders not sucked in by his bullying. How much longer till he just drops dead. We feel for you Americans, the majority who don’t accept what he is doing. I am glad you are getting along with your house and will be able to move in soon. Have a good day. My son in law is still without power after a major ice storm a few days ago and had to loan his generator to a neighbour who has flooding in his basement and the water is still coming in. He is lucky to have a wood stove but he is really struggling with the darkness. He has flashlights but can’t find the charger for them in the dark. He worked for Hydro all his life so thought he was well prepared. My daughter is at their other house in the city because she still works downtown at least one day a week but she thinks she will take a day off and take him a hot meal and some flashlights as they think it will be Thursday before the hydro will be fixed. He told her the roads have been cleared but they are expecting another storm in a couple of days but not as severe. Life never goes as planned does it. Gigi

    1. I heard about your storm. The power outages affected so many people. I have not read the news yet so am unaware of what is going on with the tariffs. I wish he would just shut up about them. I read an article that says he tosses out stuff like that to keep the media preoccupied. He is such a bozo. The US will be generations undoing the damage he and his friends have done.

  14. I can't watch the video either but I've seen the news as I follow him on Instagram.
Glad your kitchen sink work went so well. Every new thing you check off must feel so rewarding to you and Tim. Keep up the great work!

  15. I am so happy for your new tenant, the woman who bought your house (and I know she is probably over the mood with plans and dreams), and you and Tim. Good job on the sink!

  16. I'm glad that there are politicians standing up to trump and his insanity.
I feel Tim's angst. When I'm making pottery, it's so hard to take that leap and just do it, because what if I make a mistake? Sounds like there was no way Tim could make a mistake. Measure twice/four times, cut once.

  17. Well done, Cory. I hope his voice holds out.
I'm glad the sink was perfect. Taking the plunge is always nerve-racking, however much experience you have.

  18. OK, that little girl made me laugh!

I can't see the video, but bravo, Cory Booker!

And I'm so glad the sink fit. Yikes.

  19. What a cute video of that poor little girl - she did well! Measure twice cut once - works so well. Pity that those listening for dog whistles can't take a step back and regard.
