The big decision that we reached was that we were going to sell the rehab, as is. It has a new roof. New siding. Blown in insulation. New windows. Rough wiring is done. Plumbing. Water lines. Drywall is done. Most of the drywall is finished. We have a great many of the light fixtures. The ceramic tile. The clawfoot tub. The original porcelain sink.
But. We just can't anymore.
It was a hard decision to reach, but the fact is that working on two properties simultaneously means that we are slowing down progress on both of them.
So today, we spent getting the tools and things out of the rehab house, with the idea of calling a realtor.
We took a load of stuff to the new house, and I said to Tim, "You know, I wonder what would happen if we just put it up on the local garage sale site." We took some pictures.
Most houses in our area are sold word of mouth. My neighbor's son was house hunting after a divorce and a mutual friend's neighbor passed. I told them to give it a week, call the nephew and see if they want to skip a realtor fee. He is moving in April 1.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and her husband heard a neighbor was selling. They stopped by on a walk and moved in 2 months later.
I am sure you will sell to a nice family or person and what a relief it will be. You can focus on your forever home and enjoy!
That’s terrific! Is this house near your new build? If so, choose yourselves some great neighbors!

I can imagine that was a very hard decision to make, but well done to you both for making it. More stress of a different kind at the moment, but hopefully a big relief too.
ReplyDeleteWishing you luck with finding a buyer - I hope the process is straight-forward and you find the right person willing to pay the right price soon.
Wise, I think. It looks so nice, and I am sure everything has been properly done.
ReplyDeleteMy brother sold his house last year without an agent to a former workmate. She heard was up for sale and made contact with him.
