'sokay

I suppose the talk was overdue, really. I said nothing that I hadn't already said before, repeatedly, but there's something about when I get really, really upset, he does sit up and take a bit of notice.

(Spoiler alert: I was really, really upset.)

The good news is that we seem to have reached an understanding, and I'm pretty sure that we are in agreement about the direction that we need to be headed in, which is a relief.

We've got a tenant leaving. Tim thinks we'll need to replace some carpeting. Just one more thing to put on our to-do list right now, which we need like a swift kick in the pants. We hadn't planned on even beginning to advertise until next month, but interestingly enough, we had someone contact us tonight. Tim and she know each other from high school. She wanted to come and look at the apartment right away, since she's going on vacation next week until April 2nd. I'm not sure when our present tenant will be officially moved, but we love her, and we would never want to pressure her. Since we didn't plan to advertise until April anyway, it all kind of works out. We'll just hold off advertising it until the prospective tenant has seen it. She's a retiree. Kind of dicey proposition since now, all of our tenants are retirees. If Social Security goes bust, we will be in a real pickle.

Life is a roller coaster sometimes, but getting off is not an option.

But it seems to be much easier if Tim and I are in the same car.

  2. Sounds a little less stressful now.
Often things look bad for a while but somehow take a turn for the better with a positive outlook.

  3. It really upsets me if I have to make a stand, but sometimes it is necessary.
I hope the rental situation works itself out for the best.

  4. I like to say with confidence that surely #47 won't cut Social Security to those in need. I'd really like to say that with confidence.

  5. She sounds very keen. I had someone like that on a house I rented out because of negative equity. It worked out so well I gave her back three month's rent when she left and I sold it.

  9. It was a hard talk and I agree with you, it had to be done. We have discussed investing in some rentals (and should have done it a few years ago before housing prices doubled and tripled), but luckily my husband had the talk with me. He retired as a plumber and is good at everything including electric, but his knees aren't great and he has arthritis. He didn't want to have the responsibility of maintaining additional homes since he already has me with big ideas and five children who call on him for home repairs. And he was right. I am zero help with this and he isn't as young as he used to be. But - if the house next door comes up for sale again, we are buying it so we can pick our neighbors, lol.

  10. It's good you were able to say those things and you can work together on your future plans. I would hire someone to do the carpeting so you don't have to.

  14. Fingers crossed it all works out and everything falls into place. And--yes--maybe you can hire someone to replace the carpeting! :)

  15. It is so very good that you have good tenants - I think that you reap what you sow there, so what a lovely reflection on you and Tim. Remember between now and May you may not be 100% up to moving furniture and laying carpet, so hiring an assistant for that job may be smart.

  16. Well, I'm glad you communicated some essential truths, and that things appear to be settling down! As for the carpet, it's always something, right?!

The roller coaster is a good analogy.

Not My Day

So...I had to get a new picture for my driver's license, and so I did. My wallet was in another vehicle, and we were headed out, and so...
