He's still talking.

And this is what we need to see, right here.

It's not only that he's talking, but that he's speaking eloquently. He has not had a bathroom break.

I'm not sure why the link I shared yesterday changed to private. He has held the floor for 23 hours and 50 minutes. If he holds it for another half hour, he will hold the record for the longest speech, beating out Strom Thurmond at 24 hours and 18 minutes.  (Late Edit: He has done it!)

But it is not about that. It's not about records. It is about galvanizing our government to stand up and resist the unconstitutional activity we are seeing unfold before our very eyes.

I sent another e-mail to John Fetterman and Glenn Thompson, suggesting that they see Cory Booker as the role model. This was what they were elected and sent to Washington to do.

I am watching this now, and I know that I am witnessing history. I know also that when these awful days are done, Cory Booker's name will be writ in the history of our country.

Today, we met at the lawyer's office. Bless the man, we expected to go there and tell him what we wanted, and go back next week to sign a contract. He had it all laid out on his desk. He wrote in a few pertinent details, asked his questions, and wrote the contract out today. Mia was not prepared for it. Neither were we, but we walked out of there with the signed papers.

She said, "I was so sure that I was going to get here and find out that this was an April Fool's joke." It wasn't, of course. Her family is meeting up at her house to celebrate with pizza today.

  1. I am not familiar with Brooker but I expect I will become familiar with him.

I was surprised late last year when I had will updated, in fact a new will. Instead of visiting later to go through it and sign, it was all done there on the spot with just that one visit.

  2. Corey Booker has done an amazing thing and I hope other Dems will now stand up and join him in the fight. Too many of them have been too quiet.
You have a very good attorney. Congrats to Mia and good for you and Tim to have that rehab behind you.

  3. Yes! He’ll be writ in history! - And so will all the politicians who are doing their best to make money and not give a damn about the citizens of this country.: how they can live with themselves I don’t know or will ever understand!? On a brighter side- I’m loving the updates on your new home! Ox, Rigmor

  4. Fabulous news on the house! I am so happy! It was all meant to be and fell into place. Yay for good news.
I saw an interesting post today that said:
"Cory Booker gives us proof through the night that the flag is still there"
    Moving - to me anyway.
I am busy making waterproof signs because, although Mother Nature is giving us a high of 70 vs today's high of 41, she is also opening the skies tomorrow while we protest outside a convention center in a nearby town where the former co-chair of doge, Vivek Ramaswarmy, is having a campaign event. One of his campaign platforms as perspective governor of Ohio is to get rid of public schools and promote home schooling. . . I am also making my waterproof signs for Saturday's Hands Off protests in all 50 states. We are merging at a shopping mall parking lot in a nearby county with a few other Indivisibles. I think the Saturday one will be huge.

  6. Cory Booker is an inspiration. If only the rest of his party would get off their collective tails and be the damn opposition party. Because what they've done so far is not getting it done. Such good news on the house deal. Everyone wins.

    1. I heard that the democrats are trying to get a bill on the floor that will nullify the tariffs against Canada. There are enough republicans concerned about the stock market that they are thinking that they can get a majority vote.

  7. He truly is an inspiration. I especially like that it was Strom Thurmond's record that was broken. As Senator Booker said, he was in the Senate, despite Thurmond. Congratulations on the sink install, and on selling the house. You have much to celebrate.

    1. I loved listening to him. He made no less sense, he spoke with no less power at 22 hours than he did at 2. Good lord. The president can't speak for 2 minutes and not sound like a simpleton.

    1. He gives us all hope. I sent an email to John Fetterman and Glenn Thompson:

You were elected to do the work of your people. You were elected to take our concerns to Washington. You were elected to represent us. I remain disappointed that you cannot even bring yourself to meet face to face with the people that you are supposed to be representing.

Cowards are not remembered in our history. I think that America will survive this attempt on our democracy, and there will be names and voices recorded in the history books of tomorrow, people like Cory Booker. You know whose name will not be there? Yours.

It is not too late to change that.

  12. I am amazed by the speedy selling of your house. It takes months here in the UK. I also think that Cory Booker deserves a very long lie-in today!

    1. Basically, what happened here was a deferred contract. She needs two more months at her job to qualify for a loan. We did not want to hold the house for her for that amount of time. What we have done is created a situation where she pays us rent for the next few months until she can qualify for a loan. She's got a steady work history, but her previous employer laid off 1/2 of their engineering department. She found another job right away, but has only been there four months. That's the problem. So...we accept rent from her, and she is able to begin work on the house right away. The bank has told her that she can apply for a loan on June 6th. The actual closing on the house will take a couple months.

    1. We have a democratic majority in our state house. Lancaster County elected a democrat for the first time since the late 1880s. Our governor, Josh Shapiro joined in a lawsuit against the federal government for slashing public health programs. It's not happening as fast as we would like, but I do see tiny steps.

    1. We can all hope for that, AC. The GOP staged a shutdown after 9 Republicans voted with the democrats against a bill. Another thing is that democrats want to bring a bill that would block the tariffs against Canada. The stock market is unstable enough (because of the tariff uncertainties) that there have been republican mutterings of discontent. The bill needs a simple majority to pass, and it is thought that if they can get the bill to the floor, they will have enough republican support to get it passed. However, there is real pressure on the republicans to 'stay in line'. We'll see what the republicans are made of, that's for sure and certain.

  21. Yes, Cory Booker did an amazing job of speaking for so long. There are lots of hopeful signs with Susan Crawford winning in WI and in my city all of the Democrats won for city council and school board. So important to start locally. Lots of people are reacting and resisting - it just isn't always covered in the media.
    Congrats on the house sale.

  24. Well he sort of backed down with the tariffs again. His speech was full of lies as usual. But 25% on cars coming into usa hurts Americans. Our politicians are still trying to figure it all out. Since we don’t understand it all we will continue the boycott. Muskrat failed spectacularly last night and gave me a giggle. We are covered in snow again today, yuk. Tell mother nature it is supposed to be spring. Gigi

  28. This post captures such a powerful moment in history—both the determination of Cory Booker and the resilience of those standing up for constitutional values. It’s inspiring to see someone use their platform so effectively. On a personal note, the lawyer’s efficiency must have been a pleasant surprise, and Mia’s reaction adds a touch of humor to the day’s events.
