Sleepless in Pennsylvania

 another sleepless night...honestly.

And googling bagpipes is not going to help, is it?

Perhaps some nice cello music?

Not sure why I can't sleep tonight.

  1. I have spells of Insomnia too. Perhaps the worst kind is when I fall into a deep sleep for 10 minutes when I first go to bed, then I wake and at 3 a.m. am still looking into the darkness . . . In summer I come down, but in winter if I do so, need to have the heated throw wrapped round as I sit at the computer. Hope this sleepless spell ends soon for you.

    1. My mind needs an off-on switch. Sounds like you do too. I know the last thing I should be doing is getting on the computer.

  2. It's so irritating when sleep won't come despite sleepiness or is broken. I sympathise.

    1. It really doesn't bother me too much unless I have something I need to do the next day. Then it annoys me a lot.

  3. Frequently, I recite the NATO alphabet in my head and then move on with The Signs of the Zodiac in order and with dates. I rarely finish before zzzzzzzzzzz overwhelms me. If I want to get back to sleep in the morning after the wife has got up, I often press the radio alarm clock button and listen to BBC Radio 4. News of war tends to get me back to sleep.

    1. I used to be able to think myself to sleep. I think it was a form of self hypnosis.

  4. My sleep is all over the place now, but in the night I seem to be happy to let my mind turn over and enjoy it. I guess I'm lucky.

    1. My mind wanders (so far it has always come back). If I lay in bed, sometimes I start fretting. Then it feeds on itself. I get up and spend an hour or so falling down rabbit holes on the computer.

  5. A beautiful instrument the cello, but I didn't enjoy this recording, except for the costumes! It does remind me of the feeling when wishing to go back to sleep and failing, however!

    1. I didn't either, but what happens is that I get up so that I am not keeping Tim awake. I got on the computer. I wrote a post. I googled 'funny gifs: insomnia' and then I remembered The Badpiper. And then this cello thing came up and I couldn't imagine anything more incongruous than cellos and Thundersteuck. And then I started reading about the two cellists. Did you know that they no longer play together? They also did the Pirates of the Caribbean theme, which sent me off on a wander about pirates in the Caribbean...as you do.

  6. Have you ever tried taking a Benadryl before bed?
    Benadryl: Not Bagpipes.
    That should be their motto.

    1. Sounds like it should be MY motto. I received megadoses of benedryl to counteract a side effect from a chemo drug. Since then, I can't take it at all. It makes my face swell up.

  7. Loved the 2 Cellos. The video would have been better if the ladies started throwing their undergarments on the stage. lol

  8. I sometimes find getting up and having a snack resets me somehow. It can be a fairly innocuous snack, even a piece of toast. It's not always a charm, but it often helps.

    1. Whoo boy. I try not to snack in the middle of the night.

  9. I think " Here" on an in breath....and " now" on and outbreath....and carry on thinking and doing that. It often works

    1. I did something similar. I would lay in bed and think 'sleep' to myself and when an intrusive thought popped in my head, I would scold 'no' while gently pushing it back, like you would with a wayward cat who wants to be on your lap while you're doing something. I would find that the gentle 'noooooos' would come more and more infrequently until all that was left was the gentle 'sleeeeeeeeep'. I really think it is a form of self hypnosis.

  10. Hope you get some sleep, Debby,
and stay off your computer at night! :)

  11. I've stopped fighting it. I just get up at 3 am and do something until my mind quiets down again so I can return to bed. I think the feeling of being productive versus tossing and turning in bed allows me a more peaceful second round of sleeping.

    1. If I am restless and apt to keep Tim awake, I get up. If my mind is whirring off into dark directions I get up. I learn a lot of things ar o'dark-thirty. What did insomniacs do before Google?

  12. Try fixing a cup of warm milk with a good splash of bourbon in it and one of the PM pills ... Tylenol or one of the others. Being on the computer late at night is not good! Soft, easy listening music would be a better choice!
Grab a nap during the day if you can!!

  13. I guess we all have nights like that, when our brains are in overdrive. It's no fun, for sure. I hope tonight will be better.

    1. Very true. They don't concern me all that much unless it becomes chronic.

  14. Well, that's interesting! Maybe not videos for the middle of the night, though... I find it's best if I think about anything other than the fact I can't fall asleep.

    1. Word to the wise: stay away from bagpipes. Pirates of the Caribbean as well. They are real you know, and not nearly as entertaining and fun as we have been led to believe.

    2. Your mention of pirates reminded me of a story. My cousin and her husband were in Haifa when the current events in Israel began. (they got home safely several days later) But... prior to that, their most harrowing adventure was when the boat they were on in the Amazon was taken over by pirates! I don't remember hearing the particulars on the event, but they obviously got away unscathed. I will avoid bagpipes. Especially those belching fire.

    3. There are some real hair raising pirate stories. Not at all conducive to sleep.

  15. Ha! I never knew that flaming bagpipes was a thing, but apparently so! I usually read a book if I wake up in the middle of the night. It helps calm my crazy nocturnal brain.

    1. Are the about bagpipes or pirates? Because if they are not, you run the risk of dozing off...

  16. I can't decide which I like better, the flaming bagpipes from the guy in the wading pool or the dude with the mohawk........:)

  17. I know how you feel. Been there, done that a ton of times. I count backwards by 7 or 3 or whatever. And then I give up and take a melatonin.

I'm glad you're here!

More about Fashion (a topic I know little about).

While we are on the subject of fashion, I have to tell  you, when I read about this, I thought for sure that it was one of those bogus news...
