Today

Since our excavator decided to hold off until Monday, we were not able to wrassle with the main beam. Never fear. We got some work done anyway. We moved 58 14 foot 2x10s and 4 16 foot 2x10s from a pile in the yard into the basement.

We never get board around here.

  1. Oh, is that ‘board’ a pun as in moving boards all day?

    1. The louder the groan, the better the pun.

  3. I just read your comment to Pat about the oaks in Bradgate Park. I was brought up in Leicester, a few miles from there, and Bradgate is one of my favourite places ever! Many happy childhood times spent there by the little river, and walking up to Old John. Many visits as an adult too, but now that the parents are gone, we never go there. It is a bout an hour and a half drive from here ( not much by your standards I know!) but too far just to go for a walk!

    1. My daughter works in Leicester. I enjoyed my walk through Bradgate. We had a picnic there in front of the ruins. I could have sat there in the sun and daydreamed the whole day away. Such a beautiful place.

  6. My husband always said you can do it, try one it is not too heavy and then two and three and just keep going. See you can do it.

    1. Well, today I lost my end of a 40 foot beam. I could have killed my husband. Turns out there are some things we can't do. We are in a pickle now.

  7. That is a stack of wood. As you know, I just got done building a small cabin and I was amazed at the pile of wood that was delivered and then eventually disappeared into the cabin as time went by. A small house, many times bigger than the cabin, would probably cause my body to hurt just by looking at the stack of wood.
