  1. They are a modern version of book burners, and just as ignorant. Unfortunately they want everyone else to be as ignorant as they are.

  2. Very true - but don't rely on Stephen King's books to give a balanced and accurate account of the world!

    1. I'm sure Stephen King would agree with you!

    2. I don't read a lot of his books actually. In the beginning, I was hooked, but when Gage died in Pet Sematary I gave him up. I thought he crossed a line. That being said, he has been a plain spoken opponent of the far right, since they began losing the thread. He is a person using his platform to speak out. He has a bigger audience than most anyone I can think of.

  3. One half of the usa has gone completely nuts! Get rid of them by voting. Some of the americans we have met are so naive and ignorant it’s unbelievable. What do they teach in school?

    1. It is not what is taught in schools, but what the populace is hearing from their neighbors, their family members and the leaders they have chosen that reinforces their fears that they are not being heard. I have family members who are so sure they are right with their beliefs that NO ONE can convince them otherwise, even when presented with undisputable evidence. I have given up trying to enlighten them. They still support the yellow haired idiot in spite of his transgressions and all he stands for. As for the transgender issue, they stand blindly behind their religious training, condemning anyone who is not like their selves. The mind boggles.

  4. I ponder less on what books my kids are reading than why people feel like they need book’s teaching sexuality lessons in elementary schools, queer or straight. I just wish we could let kids be kids and let them explore that stuff when they are older.

Saying that, I haven’t read any of the books frequently mentioned in these discussions and would guess their content is greatly over blown by the right.

    1. I was of the same mind as you when the issue arose at my kids Primary School but after a chat with the Teachers I realised that it was very age appropriate content and very gentle. The real birds and bees wasn't even touched on until Secondary School.

  5. I wish it was as easy to ban a politician as it is to ban a book.

  6. People need to see this quote. However as other commenters say, "People are locked in their beliefs."

    1. Mr. Red, even though draft dodgers went to Canada in the '70s, the way the US is closing down the right to think right now, has made me wonder if I'd move to Canada to raise my kids. Fortunately, I only have to worry about future grandkids now. Will I be saving banned books to read to them in the secrecy of my home, with the drapes pulled? Keep your door open Red! We may be tromping in! Linda in Kansas

  7. Up here in Canada I think we are way more open minded. We live and let live. I did have to stop going to church because of the conduct of some of the priests. Also i think religion divides . Why can’t the yellow haired sex pervert be kept from running after what his speeches provoked.. he wouldn’t be allowed to run again here.

  8. Thanks for sharing this great and enlightening quote from Stephen King, Debby. We are dealing with that here in Idaho. They tried to pass a law that would send librarians to jail for checking out certain books.

  11. Most of these folks running around screaming "My Freedom" are only talking about what they believe, everything else is wrong to them.

    1. Did you ever notice the folks waving the 'don't tread on me banners' are always the first ones trampling all over everybody else? Just something I noticed.

    2. Wait - what?? Was your comment a response to my comment about how it’s scary to live in this country now? If so, I mustn’t have made it clear that I fully agree with Stephen King - free choice and free thought!

    3. OMG!!! I am so sorry. I though you were saying that the part of the country in blue scared you! I am so sorry! I see the blue you're referring to now. Please accept my apologies for the misunderstanding.
