Life on a Quiet Street

Tim was talking to a neighbor the next block over. They are completely renovating an old house on the riverside, hauling out big piles of construction debris to a dumpster set out front. They've been staying on site though, which no one realized. Esp. the people who broke in during the night. They were probably looking to steal tools, but left in a hurry once they realized someone was there.

If you go one block the other way, someone crashed into the wraparound porch on an old house,

In the middle of the block, where we live, it's been quiet enough.

  1. Flipping heck Debby! I once heard a noise in one of the out buildings and the dogs were barking liking mad. I picked up a stick and shouted to the culprit inside to come outside. I opened the door and a big ginger cat looked at me none pluss. It was only sheltering there for the night! I never worked out it managed to get inside the shed.

  2. Goodness me. That would make me feel a little nervous.

  3. That's why I have always lived where I have been renovating...apart from the expense of two roofs...

    1. I lived in the middle of a renovation once, and I really don't want to do it again, mostly because, since we were living there, it seemed that a lot of renovations simply didn't happen in a timely manner. Tim ripped down some drywall here in two rooms and I got pretty upset. He's not allowed to rip anything else down unless he's prepared to do the repair immediately.

  4. I've always lived in the houses I have fixed up. It certainly is a pain and not for those that can't stand a little dust. But it does have the benefit of not having to guard against theft at the end of every day.

    1. These people were asleep inside when the house was broken into. That would be a frightening experience.

  5. I feel so pleased that where I live I can literally leave my doors open and forget it - I can't remember when I last felt any need to lock up at night.

    1. When we lived in the woods, we had a killer on the loose for a while. We realized we could not lock up the house because no one knew where the keys were

  6. Oh ouch! How scary! Thankful our house is far from the main road- we never lock the doors when we go out! Though I’ve worried about it a few times.. ok, off to look for the front door keys! (We have two wraparound porches - well, half porches- and therefore 4 places to enter our house!🙄) Stay safe!! Xo Ricki

  7. We will be moving back to the country. We have been robbed in town and in country. William and I were actually there another time when two fellows showed up with a tow truck and pulled up to a car we had. They were a bit shocked when they realized we were there.

  9. When I moved to the Island half a century ago personal property was sacrosanct. I wish that the same could be said today.

    1. Maybe I'm oblivious, but if this has been going on awhile, I have missed it.

I'm glad you're here!

Sunny Days.

William's here for the weekend, which is nice. (His parents are going to a childfree wedding.) He wanted to see a movie very badly. It ...
