This is a huge football day. His football team is the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are currently playing the Baltimore Ravens. A must see game. Right after that is another must see game, the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs (who are up to this point undefeated. I blame Taylor Swift.) Now here's where it gets tricky. Tim wants the Bills to lose because they are neck and neck with his beloved team. But he also wants the Chiefs to lose because they are undefeated and a loss would make them within reach of his beloved team.
What to do, what to do? It's a quandary alright.
I saw a sushi making kit on market place. I love kimbap. I did a quick search and was amazed to see that you can buy nori sheets right at walmart, on the shelf, so quick as a wink, I bought the kit. I've been looking at kimbap recipes. I think this will be a lot of fun, although I can see it something that easily gets out of hand. I've already got plans for pickled daikon radishes, and looking up recipes for fish cakes. It will be a fun thing to play around with this winter.
After Tim got home from church, we ran up to feed the kittens. He also wanted to move his game camera. Plus we had to be home by the time those VERY IMPORTANT games started.
I tried something new today, now that it is getting cold. Keeping in mind AC's admonitions about cats and milk, I decided to try stopping their milk. At the discount grocery, they have packages and packages and MORE packages of gravy mix for 10 cents each. I heat that with a couple cups of water, haul it out to the garage and mix a can of catfood into the gravy. I pour it over their dry catfood. I stood back to see what they thought of it, and we had quite a kitten caboodle of excitement. They were quite enthusiastic, and once their bellies were full with warm dinner, they were very playful, so it was a fun way to wait for Tim to get out of the woods.
I received my first package for the Amish Christmas in the mail yesterday and was much disappointed to see that it was broken. I contacted the seller and much to my surprise, she apologized and said that she would refund my money. Two minutes after she said she would, my phone pinged again, and I was notified that I was receiving the credit. How nice was that? I was prepared for a wrangle.
Speaking of wrangles, after 10 months of wrangling, I see that the city has us on the agenda for tomorrow night's meeting. We should have a nice check in our hands by the end of the week. It will always gall me that we were totally ignored until we hired a lawyer, something that added even more expense. But all's well that ends well, and if we are lucky, we will never have to deal with the city manager again.
So that's today. Steelers winning by two points coming out of halftime.
Yesterday in Columbus Ohio.
I saw the photo yesterday and today a friend shared a clip of the radio log. The nazis were spraying blacks with mace in the streets and also entered a bar with black patrons and sprayed them too. Bystanders pointed them out to responding officers and they were arrested. Which isn't the point (although I am proud of their restraint). The point is that the election emboldened these people to think this behavior is okay in our society. And it makes me sick.
ReplyDeleteMy granddog is spoiled rotten and I contribute to this when I care for him. I also make gravy, using beef broth to make it extra tasty, and add it to his dry food. It does look more appetizing and it is warm.
Good luck with the city!
I couldn't even bring myself to read about it, to be honest. At least people stood up to them. That makes me glad. At least there are still laws that allow people like this to be arrested.
DeleteIt tickled me how excited the kittens got about a warm meal with lots of gravy. All you could hear was purring kittens and lapping tongues.
The Kansas City team is called the Chiefs. Las Vegas is the Raiders. Just so you know...
ReplyDeleteI wonder why those Nazis cover their faces? Afraid for people to know who they are? Weird.
LOL. You can tell I am not the football fan in this house. Thanks for pointing out my mistake! I have fixed it!
DeleteJust like the Klan - they wore sheets so their neighbors couldn't identify them.
DeleteTheir anonymity allowed them to behave badly. Not much different than internet trolls today.
DeleteYou live in 1932, and some of us know what begun in January 1933 - exactly what was promised in the elections.
ReplyDeleteI know. It's really, really sickening. We can't act surprised by it. In the weeks leading up to the election, so many people said that it wasn't possible, that all the talk meant nothing. Yet...here we are.
DeleteThat photo of the swastikas is sickening. WTF is wrong with people? I always wonder what white men are so angry about.
ReplyDeleteI love the lion with the hat.
I bet he wouldn't mind adding a few Nazis to his diet.
DeleteI don’t even know what to comment on that nazi picture.. it’s all so scary, I can’t look at news anymore- but maybe I should?! Although I don’t see how it would help anyone to have another freaked out person around ☹️ I hope Tim enjoys the games, though! I know nothing about the sport, and I’m so grateful my husband turned out to be someone not very interested either!😅 Except if there’s a big game on (like the ‘world’ series). I only know soccer, having played it as a youngster. So happy the cats love the gravy addition!😻Enjoy your Sunday evening ..xo, Rigmor
ReplyDeleteI could not bring myself to read it either. It is scary. I don't believe that people should be allowed to march or protest if they are going to hide their identities.
DeleteI want to try Poke because I prefer sashimi.
DeleteI have never heard of a poke bowl. Looks good though. We do not have a great many ethnic restaurants here.
DeleteIt sounds like a busy and exciting day! The football dilemma is definitely a tricky one for Tim, but I'm sure he’ll figure it out. Your sushi kit and kimbap plans sound like such a fun winter project! As for the kittens, they must have been so excited with that warm meal. It's great that the seller refunded you so quickly—such a pleasant surprise! And finally, good luck with the city meeting—it’s about time things went your way. Wishing you a great week ahead!
ReplyDeleteThe games are finished, and Tim has survived, thank goodness! That last game was a good one.
Delete, and I don't even LIKE football!
You know, it is ridiculous, but I am so happy to have the distraction of those kittens right now.
I tend to go news free over the weekends so I have missed all the hubbub. I'll probably hear about it tomorrow on the evening news.
ReplyDeleteYour mileage may vary, but I have never had home rolled sushi that was something I would write home to mom about. Over the years, we've been invited to sushi dinners at homes where those sorts of kits were used and the results are okay I guess, but have always paled to the results produced by sushi chefs at actual sushi restaurants. The price is of course a lot better for DIY sushi which I suppose is why it has hung on all these years.
I find the better alternative for DIY home consumption is to aim for Bibimbap which has a lot of similarities in the types of ingredients used in sushi but is easier to make more flavorful.
I am anxious to see what I can do.
DeleteThat photo just turned up on my farcebook feed.
ReplyDeleteShocking on one hand..not surprised on the other
It did shock me, and I am not sure why it should have. When the republicans sit down with white supremacists, we knew. For all the denials, we k ew.
DeleteYou can buy those pickles radishes or takuan at any Asian store. It beats having to make it from scratch.
ReplyDeleteNazis? Seriously?
Seriously. Nazis. It breaks my heart to say it.
DeleteWe are out in the boonies and I don't know of any asian markets. The pickled radishes sound easy to make. But you have given me a great idea. When we go to my son's house on the other side of the state I am sure I will be able to find those stores! Thanks for that, Kay!
I'm glad they like their new dish. BTW, I am not hearing about mother cat. Is she still around?
ReplyDeleteThe last time Gaza showed up, she actually frightened me. Remember how old dramatic movies would show cougars yowling? It was seriously like that. She ate like she was starving, but she squalled the whole time. I did not dare to approach her because I knew I would get bitten. I actually told Tim I was afraid that she was rabid. That was probably six weeks ago. We have been keeping a close eye out for her but have not seen her since.
DeleteMy Kansas City Chiefs didn't really play as well as they could have, so they did lose. I'm kind of glad they finally lost a game. Now they can think about going to the SuperBowl again.
ReplyDeleteOh, Donna. I thought about you and Cliff during the game! I figured it would have been a heart breaker for you guys. Should have known my sensible practical friend would be just fine!
DeleteGood news about the city, FINALLY!! As far as Nazis, WTF is wrong with those people? Thousands of American servicemen died wiping that scourge from the earth in WWII. I just don't get it. I fear that they have been emboldened by the results of the election and that's not good. Sorry about Gaza, life's hard for feral cats.......
ReplyDeleteThat Nazi stuff sickens me. I cannot see how anyone can be a part of that, and yet there's the Republican party sucking up to the likes of Nick Fuentes. Vance claimed that it was a sign of tRUMP's character that he could talk with people of all back grounds. Simply put, the question is should he? I've even got the answer: No. No he should not.
DeleteThe Nazi affair sickens me. I hope there is no violence between believers and non believers.
ReplyDeleteJoanne, I hate to say it, but I can envision that actually happening.
DeleteI wonder what action, if any, will be taken against those marchers. Are such things legal there?
ReplyDeleteSadly, Jaycee, they are perfectly legal. They can march in our streets. These folks crossed a line when they began to mace minorities, even following them into businesses to do so. So, yes, these fine citizens got arrested because people stepped up and made sure it happened.
DeleteThose people in Columbus are atrocious. Big brave *men* who are afraid to show their faces - it's all horribly reminiscent of the 1930s, except that the fascists then didn't cover their faces.
ReplyDeleteThe bullying mentality seems to be permeating our country, and I really hate it. In our high schools, in your local McDonalds, on line, in the streets. I often find myself wondering why more people aren't looking at this in horror. We sure should be.
DeleteDarn lost that comment when I went to find out the difference between sushi and kimbap - the answer is not much - we call them Nori rolls here. I bought the girls the BEST sushi makers last year from Temu.
ReplyDeleteKimbap is the Korean adaptation of sushi. I'm quite excited to play around with this.
DeleteSomehow, when I got some of my grandmother's things, I acquired a few sushi rolling mats. She used them to put under flower arrangements. My kids and I have made sushi a few times. You'll have fun.
ReplyDeleteI have ZERO interest in football. I never even know who's playing in the Super Bowl.
As to the nazis- I wonder what would have happened if the people being maced and intimidated had fought back. THEY would probably have been arrested.
I have a tiny bit more than zero interest at this point, having worked around the high holy day of football for 26 years now. But...not much more.
DeleteAlthough I missed the nazi march, I did see something about it, but I learned so much more just reading your post, looking at those awful pictures, and reading the comments. We are in for a world of hurt, IMHO, for the next few years, I fear.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you're wrong, but I'm afraid that you're right.
DeleteOMG. That cake is horrible! LOL!
ReplyDeleteYou've reminded me that I need to set up our back garden cam again. I took it down several months ago and I think we need some new videos. It's easier to film in winter when there's less foliage.
It's a sad fact that far-right groups now feel emboldened. We're going to see more of that kind of thing, I suppose.
Just proof, I think, that not everyone should be allowed to decorate cakes.
