The news is filled with breathless warnings about the terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad snow storm we are expecting. The last I knew, they were calling for 9-12 inches. At the Thanksgiving, my niece pulled out her phone. Much to my surprise, her weather was calling for 2-3 feet. I'm not sure where that report came from.
I've been keeping an eye on this storm for the most trivial of reasons. I have a hair cut tomorrow afternoon. Now, bear in mind that I had my last hair cut in June, just before my stylist took the summer off for a hip replacement. She returned in the fall and had quite a backlog of people. I made this appointment a couple weeks ago, and tomorrow was the earliest that she could get me in.
And...so...I'm just hoping the this weather hype is mostly hype.
Thanksgiving was nice. As the saying goes, many hands make light work. I made my cranberry sauce last night. I got up this morning and baked a chocolate cake and frosted it. I had time to relax before popping the ham in. About an hour before we left the house, the corn casserole went in on the bottom rack. A lot easier than doing the whole meal yourself.
It was a nice time. A little sad because some of them were there to bury their mother tomorrow. But everyone talked and it was fun to listen to them. Saturday is the first day of rifle season for deer, and so phones were being passed around to show the monster bucks. The youngest great nieces and nephews ran around playing well together. The oldest are grown. How on earth has this happened?
After we got home, there was an e-mail from another niece who was not there. She's expecting a baby in May.
The circle of life, isn't it?
So that was Thanksgiving, and I am thankful.
I will even more thankful if I can get that haircut.
I hope that everyone had a nice day, no matter whether this was an ordinary day, or a celebration for you.
The lady that has cut my hair for the last 13 years moved out of state. I need a cut really bad, but everyone was busy this week for the holiday of closed for the weekend. I cut some of it off and now it is grown to the point a hairdresser can even it up or maybe make it look even. I have natural curly hair, so it does whatever it wants if it gets too long. My family is out of state or country, so I spent a nice day reading and watching YouTube and took a nice long nap. Happy late Thanksgiving to you.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving, Debby. I don’t have a blog myself but reading your posts brings me reassurance that there are good people in the world! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving. I am not leaving my house this weekend so I am ignoring the weather. But our scanner picks up the snow plows and they have been busy tonight!
ReplyDeleteI'm praying for you to get to the hairdresser and have your luxuriant locks trimmed.
ReplyDeleteHope your snow isn't as dire as predicted but if your weather forecasts are anything like the ones here, they get "talked up". Mind you, they also go the other way and Storm Bert was a lot worse for the people in the Welsh Valleys than anyone was expected and even part of a slag heap of coaldust was washed down into one unsuspecting village.
ReplyDeleteAs the weather systems here often come in from the west we sometimes get your weather, but less of it, a week later - so I hope your forecasts are wrong.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your Thanksgiving celebrations. It seems you had fun with your family.
ReplyDeleteHope that snow doesn't stop you from getting your haircut. Perhaps Tim could give you a quick trim? 😉
When I was a child and we got a lot more snow than today the weather forecasts just seemed to predict 'snow'. Now it is often 'heavy snow' or even a 'snow bomb'. Like Sue in Suffolk I keep an eye on what is happening on your side of the pond and know if my sister in Chicago gets extreme weather the tail end of it will pitch up here a week later.
ReplyDeleteA lovely family gathering. I hope the Rixon clan can have ours in May..no problems with snow!
ReplyDeleteThe forecast sounds dire. I hope all will be well in your neck of the woods and you manage to keep your hair appointment.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. We did too!
ReplyDeleteHope you can get to your haircut today and you don't have too much snow. Stay safe, Debby!
I think it may be time for my annual chopping of the hair again soon. I'm pretty sure I won't have to worry about snow keeping me from getting it when I do, though.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. Those monster bucks. I will tell you something but don't tell my husband I said it- I grow weary of this obsessing with it all. I really honestly do. And hey- guess what? For some bizarre reason, our governor, in all of his infinite lack of wisdom, has declared that snapper season shall be prolonged through the end of the year and so now the fishing trips are being planned again. AND, of course, there is duck hunting.
Sigh.
I really do not mind (so much) and honestly, this is far better than the husbands who do their hunting in bars which is a sport in which the game cannot be brought home and served at the table.
I hope your haircut happened! Dave's family gets excited about deer hunting but I find it all quite mysterious. (No one in my family hunted.)
ReplyDeleteAs long as the meat is being used, I'm okay with hunting but why does it matter what size the animal is? Men make me tired right now.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a good thanksgiving visit with family and hopefully you can get your haircut today. Stay warm.
I'm ok with hunting if you eat what you kill. Bellevue, WA, an upscale high-zoot neighborhood is over run with deer. The city put in a trail system through the woods for people to walk, and the deer have taken over, it's awash in deer poop. So, culling of the herd might be a good thing. There is a city park behind us (it's a big park, not a city park) that allows bow hunting in the winter months. So far, they haven't shot any hikers or bikers.
ReplyDeleteWe out did ourselves for having our usual simple Thanksgiving this year, bike ride in the morning, then cleaned all the floors in the house for the 1st time since we moved in. YIKES! Glad that's over. We used to do huge Thanksgivings, up early cook all day, lots of people over. To be honest I remember it fondly but am glad it's in the past. Here's hoping the snow f'cast is weather talking head hype.
ReplyDeleteGood that you had a great Thanksgiving with family. I hope you don't get that monster storm.
ReplyDeleteWe got her home sans snow. I am not sure if there is still any coming, but it doesn’t matter now. We were saying on the way home that it would be best not to make travel plans from late November until who knows when. Glad you had a good TG.
ReplyDeleteFour of my grandchildren live in Lake County; home of lake effect snow. Their forecast is for 2" an hour. I'll check in tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be having our Thanksgiving next Saturday instead because my nephew is an ER nurse and on duty. We did roast a turkey though and I've written a post about it. Sigh...
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you were able to have a family Thanksgiving.
Don't you love when they say lake-effect snow? They used to mention that when we lived north of Chicago. People would say it's just lake-effect snow. Well, it's snow! And sometimes a LOT of it.
