Yesterday was a wobbly day. No other word for it, and today, truth be told, it was yet another wobbly day, and that is some nonsense right there.
We had some work to do at the renovation, taking apart the 8 foot tall cabinet so that we could give the doors away. We were meeting the people tonight. While we were there, a quick giveaway...the 'small' 30 x 34 inch mirror was claimed by a couple who were renovating a bathroom. She did not want a medicine cabinet, only a large mirror behind the sink. They were thrilled to find one for free. We were thrilled to get another thing gone from that house.
Once our work was completed, we came home. Tim wanted to spend the afternoon hunting, so I fixed him a hot roast turkey sandwich and then he was out the door with a nice container of turkey and gravy for the kittens as well.
Left to my own devices, I looked around blogs for a time. That 'black dog' was still on my heels. When I ran out of my regular blogs, I glanced at side bars. I noticed that Tasker had one 'Finding Life Hard?' and so I clicked on that because, yeah, right this minute, I'm finding life a bit hard. She showed a game that her husband had made for her, and it popped into my head that this would certainly be a game that the Amish kids loved.
The hematite pieces are divided up between the players, the extra pieces set inside the string ring. The players take turns putting their hematite into the circle. If your hematite attracts other pieces, they become yours. The first player to get rid of all of his pieces is the winner. Simple game. No reading required. Good for all ages.
Hi Debby. I just got my computer back from the fix-it shop where it had been for two weeks. I have a question. Did you ever get a settlement from the city for that horrible fiasco you were fighting a few months ago? Last I remember, you had been at a city council meeting where it was supposed to have been on the agenda and had not been. I have been under such a black cloud since Nov. 5th that I feel like I am trying to run in waist high mud. The next four years scare me so much. Almost 1/3 of my monthly income is from Social Security and I am afraid the nameless one will pull something stupid to wreck it. It scares the hell out of me.
ReplyDeleteWell...it seems to be, but we will know more about it in a week. Stay tuned!
DeleteI'll keep my fingers crossed for you. You've really been through the wringer with the city.
DeleteWell done. The children will love all those. I was just idly scrolling through Facebook and came across a t-shirt I just knew Danny would love. I checked elsewhere on the internet and found it from a 99.4% trustworthy seller for a lot less so he's got an extra gift coming. He loves anything Viking and so his t-shirt says "Too many idiots, not enough axes". That will tickle him. Just my Keith's sort of thing too.
ReplyDeleteHi, Jennie. Good to see you are getting back to normal! That shirt is funny, and...it gave me a good idea. Thanks!!!
DeleteWell, I had no idea hematite was magnetic. Looks like a simple but fun game
ReplyDeleteI only knew because I bought a bag of it for William, once upon a time, when he was younger and enjoyed spending time with his grandparents.
DeleteI wish we could return to those days here when children could be excited by simple games and toys. Such innocence.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. I think we are all feeling nostalgic these days, wishing for simpler days.
DeleteThank you for the link. I'm glad my blog proved helpful. I know about the black dog and wobbles too.
ReplyDeleteHi, Liz. It does seem as if the black dog is getting around these days.
DeleteSorting out games and toys for children is fun.
ReplyDeleteI often look at other bloggers' side bars, too, and have a poke around. It's interesting to have a glimpse of other people's lives.
That's what I love best about blogs. The little glimpses into the lives and minds of others.
DeleteProbably nsfa but we had some good games of scattergories on the weekend.
ReplyDeleteAm glad that little joys won over the blues today 💙
Have you heard of the game 'Ransom Notes'. I got that as a gift. It looks like awfully good fun...but you're right: Definitely NSFA (which made me laugh, btw).
DeleteIt's always good to expand the blog circle. (Though I find that I struggle to keep up with the bloggers I follow now!) It does seem that doing for others is often a good antidote to the wobbles.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually have the time for that, but Tim's been hunting in the afternoon, which leaves me on my own.
DeleteA big (((hug))) for the wobbles..send that dog on a run!! Not easy in these dark days ( however you take the description) but take heart...five weeks to solstice...
ReplyDeleteAnd just think...longer dark evenings to watch them playing with those games. I saw a video of the magnetic game being played last week....looks really good fun
It did look like an ingenuously simple game. I think the kids will get a kick out of it.
DeleteDoing for others really is a salve to our days, isn’t it?
ReplyDeleteJean
Truly, it is. I've been trying my best to turn my focus from politics to the folks in my sphere. I can't do jack about what is happening in Washington, so I need to do what I can where I am at.
DeleteI read that post about the hematite game. Sounds like one for allages.
ReplyDeleteI've now read about it on two posts but haven't seen a name yet.
DeleteI see it marketed as Magnetic Chess. Which does not seem to fit.
DeleteI wish my life allowed for more sitting around the fireplace, eating popcorn and perhaps working on a puzzle or other hobby type project. That season is quickly approaching though!
ReplyDeleteIt seems idyllic, doesn't it?
DeleteYou have such a kind and good soul.
ReplyDeleteOh, not always, but it is something that I really try hard to be. The world needs more 'kind' doesn't it?
DeleteBuying gifts for your Amish friends always cheers you up, Debby. Good idea!
ReplyDeleteLet's face it. Buying Christmas gifts puts me in my happy place. I really love browsing and coming up with the perfect things. I take my time at it.
DeleteYour kindness will help those kids to make some very happy memories.
ReplyDeleteOh, it's a back and forth kindness, that's for sure, and it does make for happy memories.
DeleteI've seen that game with the magnetic stones multiple places (and not expensive), so I've ordered one. My whole family loves games of any type, so I know we'll enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteIt was the first time I'd seen them. I see that Consumer Reports wants everyone and his brother to throw those away. They pose a danger if swallowed.
DeleteDoing something for others does often make us feel better. Thanks for the games recommendations. I want to buy Jack some more games for Christmas. He has less TV now, we all do, so more time for games.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you've already told people how you met, but how do you know the Amish family? It seems like a wonderful, loving relationship, both ways.
Well, it started out as a business thing. We bought lumber from Levi's sawmill. They have a son with health issues. We discovered that they were paying as much as a couple hundred dollars to be transported to Pittsburgh. We volunteered to drive them down. They reimburse us for gas. It's kind of grown from that.
DeleteI'm always impressed at the strength of the friendship between your family and the Amish family. I never new hematite was magnetic, who knew?
ReplyDeleteI never knew you could buy it in quarter pound increments. The things I learn from blogs.
