Today was another day spent scrubbing baseboards.
I was working away when the room started getting dark. 'Storms coming," I thought in a distracted sort of way, scrubbing on with my brush, wiping it dry, and then sliding on the floor to repeat the process on the next stretch of baseboard.
There was a rumble of thunder. Our first thunder storm of the year! I stopped to appreciate it, sitting right there on the floor, holding my scrub brush in the dim room.
It did not take long for the storm to move on, but I enjoyed it while it lasted. In the matter of 20 minutes, the room was flooded with sunlight once again.
You know, I have been struggling lately, and I needed the reminder: No storm lasts forever.
Love the silver lining 💗
ReplyDeleteMost of the time there IS one.
DeleteCHECK OUT "STORMS NEVER LAST DO THEY BABY. I like dr hooks rendition.
ReplyDeleteListening to it now. Thanks, Red.
DeleteStorms can scrub everything clean!(although Cyclone Gabrielle did just the opposite 😥)
ReplyDeleteIt still boggles my mind that I heard about this storm on your blog! Lucky that NZ had you and Pirate there to help sort out the mess.
DeleteStorms can be exhilarating, but I don't fancy experiencing too many of them.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you as you deal with your own storms.
DeleteI am thinking base board must be what we call skirting board. That is where the floor meets the wall a vertical board is used to make it look neat.
ReplyDeleteIt troubles me that you have been struggling but I don't have any wise words of advice or comfort. OK, maybe it is 'you do what you have to do'.
Yes. That's it. We live in an old house so it is about 8 inches high, with decorative quarter round. There's nothing to be done but to keep on trucking, in the words of the sages of the 1970s.
DeleteIt's always the darkest just before Dawn. Your storm is a great metaphor for you and Tim's recent experiences Debby.
ReplyDeleteStormy weather here to be sure.
DeleteI love spring thunderstorms, actual ones and not metaphorical ones.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of metaphrical ones either.
DeleteScrubbing baseboards? The next thing will be washing walls. People do that? 🤓
ReplyDeleteJust the freaks, I suppose.
DeleteA good storm can wash everything clean again, can't it?
ReplyDeleteI keep hoping...
DeleteLets hope there are no more storms of the metaphorical kind for a while.
ReplyDeleteWe've really had quite challenging times for the past 3 months. Not just Tim. I was talking to my youngest daughter on the phone. Houdini had just begun to explore the house at night. I said, "It's kind of startling to see a shape suddenly moving in the night. My first thought was 'Large rat!' " Her response. "No. That's NEXT month's plague."
DeleteThunderstorms make me nervous. Hope you have clear skies ahead, Debby!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I find them so very soothing.
DeleteCleaning helps sometimes, and a good storm to clear the air, and of course sunshine. Sending hugs.
ReplyDeleteBack at ya.
DeleteWith Houdini around, you may not see any mice or rats. But he might bring them to you as presents because he loves you. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteEek. Since he is an indoor cat, I sure hope not!
DeleteThere were lots of Facebook posts today about snow in the morning and thunder and lightning in the afternoon. Meanwhile, where I am, I was sweltering in 73 degrees. That temperature feels very different here than it does there! - LindaG
ReplyDeleteThe picture of Bob and his 'snack' made me laugh out loud.
DeleteI hate to admit this, but I never scrub baseboards. Yes, it's true. I'm lazy.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking I ought to wash walls, but those were the days of wood fires! I should do baseboards...
