Explained.
The first post is the second house we bought.
The second post is our own aka 'the house in the header', when we first started renovating.
The third post is our own again, just starting to turn it into a home. It was big and there was a lot of empty places to be filled.
The fourth post is an example of Tim's methodology. This was like probably the 5 or 6th house we bought. This was my Australia trip money. He bought the house for $25,000. Many hours of work later, we sold it for $115,000.
We are doing an apartment renovation right now. When that is done, we have a Craftsman to do and get on the market. Then we will be free to focus on our own life after retirement.

Caretaking
Well, Mangey came back today. I let him in the house to feed him. I figure that I'll do that for a few days until he gets comfortable, a...
That's a lot of house-ing about.
ReplyDeleteSuch a very small glimpse. Bush Babe was right. I was a terrible person about taking pictures. I don't have much of a photographic record.
DeleteStill suck about it.
I guess I need a photographer. *polite cough*
You should have your own television house hunting series Debby.
ReplyDeleteNooooope....
DeleteThat sounds like a LOT of work, but exciting to see the improvements and changes too. A trade off.
ReplyDeleteSome days were more tradeable than others.
DeleteIt's been interesting to read this look back at your house-renovating history. I now feel completely inadequate since I can't even get a pipe unplugged in our apartment!
ReplyDeleteWe were not quite that green, Steve, but I can honestly say that we went into this and sort of learned on the way. MY brother in law was the head of maintenance at a church camp, and he worked for us on Saturdays. Tim learned a lot from Dave. Once the period of enlightenment started, he began looking stuff up on you tube. There is no project that he would not tackle. My job description amounts to 'step and fetch it'. Coming in close second is 'hold this right here like that'.
ReplyDeleteI was a little bit puzzled until I noticed all the new posts I hadn't read. It was nice to see your journey into house remodeling. I enjoy it for the most part but have never branched out beyond remodeling my own home.
ReplyDeleteThere are those bright and shining days that make me think you are the smart one, Ed. Today was one of those days actually.
DeleteHonestly, I live on the wrong coast, house wise. I just love those old houses. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteKJ
West Coast prices are nuts, KJ.
DeleteWell that explains everything. You don't live in a slum after all. Renovation is a lot of work. good for you for putting in all the effort.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard work, Red. And we still are not done!
DeleteWell I've slept since I first saw those earlier posts (and I may not have ever seen the earliest, so I enjoyed touring again. Interesting seeing some names from the past, too. (like Hal)
ReplyDeleteDid you ever do anything about your lack of closet space? (or did I maybe miss that?)
I bought a chifferobe, Kelly. You probably did not miss it at all.
ReplyDeleteI know. Those names brought back a lot of nice memories, didn't they? I always wonder what happened to Lavinia.
Well, you do not have to worry about getting bored during retirement! You two sure have a lot to keep you busy. Good thing you know what you are doing!
ReplyDeleteI am hopeful to be a little bored, Ellen.
