The the house is now hooked up to the electric service. The inside work was not too awful, but it was cold outside. Very cold. Hooking the service to the breaker box is slow work and I sure did not want to rush Tim on that. I did what I was told and ran for what was needed.
That part is done and I am glad for it. I was frozen when I got home and it took forever to warm up.
Now the rough wiring work begins. Tim has an appointment for therapy in Erie tomorrow, so we will wait a day to begin that part of things. That's likely to take a week or more, depending on the weather. A storm is forecast for this weekend.
Once the wiring is done, the inspector will come to inspect our work. We generally don't wait long on him. He's an affable fellow who likes talking with Tim.
At that point, we can begin insulating the walls, and putting up the drywall.
Just be careful! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteLOL. Always, Linda.
DeleteI don't envy you working in the cold. When you're chilled to the bone it takes forever to warm up again.
ReplyDeleteEven a hot shower and a bowl of soup didn't do the trick...not right away anyhow.
DeleteGood luck to Tim. Hope his therapy session goes well.
ReplyDeleteIt is discouraging for us. It is not going to resolve overnight.
DeleteI think we would be allowed to string the wires, but we would need an electrician to connect the wires to the box and we would not be allowed to connect wires to power points or switches. Mind, your 110V is much less dangerous than our 240V.
ReplyDeleteDrywall is sheets of plaster board? That's good progress.
It was bringing it 240v at the meter, but it splits to 120 or 110. Don't quote me on that. The recepticles are 110. After the wiring (rough inspection) is done, then we can begin to insulate and wall.
DeleteGood work y'all! Keep warm. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm warm now.
DeleteYou're certainly coming right along!
ReplyDeleteIt feels like it, suddenly. I imagine that's because we took a couple months off.
DeleteI'm amazed the skill Tim has to do all the different trades.
ReplyDeleteTim had an uncle who showed him how to do a lot. They put an addition on his house. But mostly, he is self taught. He just started buying houses and watching you-tube videos. My brother -in-law taught him a lot about electrical work.
DeletePutting up insulation is always a monumental occasion for me. It isn't difficult work, makes a huge improvement on comfort levels while working in a house and is a sure sign that occupancy isn't that far off.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see what happens now that we are back to it.
DeleteYou are making significant progress.
ReplyDeleteWe had two months to rest.
DeleteGlad you're over the hard (and cold) part!
ReplyDeleteOh, I imagine that we are not over all the hard parts, but the electricity.
DeleteIt all sounds so exciting, though I can imagine it wasn’t all that pleasant with the cold temperatures .. windy and very chilly here too! And a snow storm coming Saturday night! I have to admit I just love any kind of wild weather- though I’d be happy with just a few inches of snow… which is forecast to rain away here around Tuesday🙄😂 Sending continued best wishes to both you and Tim!🥰 xo, Rigmor
ReplyDeleteWe've got 0-85 inches forecast. Maybe on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, or maybe not at all. If we feel stressed, we're supposed to rush to a store and buy milk, bread and toilet paper.
DeleteI am intrigued. Is Tim a certified builder? Over here you need all sorts of certificates and qualifications and inductions to even look at a building site!
ReplyDeleteWe are building for ourselves so we can do the work ourselves. An inspector needs to inspect the building several times. For the foundation and for the studs and trusses and roof. Then for wiring. Plumbing. The windows need to meet standards, etc.
DeleteWorking in the cold is no fun. I remember too many shows where the weather went south, and not the warm south.
ReplyDeleteI have never been a fan of the cold.
DeleteRest well, Debby. I hope the wiring part will go smoothly.
ReplyDeleteWell. Nobody got electrocuted. Shocking as it is, I'm a worrier.
DeleteYay on the progress!! Hope Tim's therapy goes well and Happy New Year to you and your family!!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed that all goes smoothly and comfortably for Tim. I am always totally in awe of how hard you both work and how much you get done.
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed with all that Tim knows how to do. And you too! I'm not envying you the cold weather though.
