Legends Of the Fall

The Drum Major is always warning me to be careful. I always find that a bit humorous.

Her warnings bring echoes from a long ago childhood..."Be careful..." "Watch what you are doing..." "Get down from there..." My mother's voice. My father's voice. Grandparents. "Be careful..."

But I am not a child. I am a grown woman.

That little factoid did not stop me from going ass over teakettle today.

I was awhile getting to my feet. Long enough that Tim came from what his work to do a damage assessment.

I boogered up an already boogered up knee and gave myself a boogered up elbow to boot.

Honestly!

Other than that, a quiet day. Taco for supper with homemade taco seasoning. The left over taco meat, salsa, chopped tomato got tossed into the crockpot with some pinto beans. Chili for supper tomorrow night.

Curious: I am commenting as usual but many times, I am surprised that my comment has not 'taken'. Can anyone tell me: are the comments going to spam or are they simply not getting through?

    1. I loved that movie. Brad Pitt sure looked purty in it.

  3. I just did a quick scan. The last comment that I saw from you was Jan 25. I tried commenting from my tablet again, but it is still fraught with problems. The computer it is for me. Too bad, as I would like to read from the comfort of my chair.

    1. It is my phone that gives me the biggest problems, but now the desk top is starting to 'lose' comments. I've never had that problem before. It aggravates me!

    1. Bruises hurt, but that is easy enough to endure. I landed so hard that I honestly thought I might have broken my arm. THAT would have been a bit harder to ignore. :)

  5. You commented on the cat/rat story. Sometimes I do have to look at my comments and add your comments, but that could be because after two days, I don't let comments go on directly. Seems like it's past entries that usually get all the spam. When I show up on someone's blog as anonymous, I click the dropdown arrow and choose my Google account. Otherwise I have to be anonymous. Took me forever to see that little V pointing down to where I comment.

    1. Your blog was particularly frustrating, because I had to comment multiple times. I am not sure what is going on. Very frustrating!

  7. Sorry to hear you had a fall - hope you are better already! Your post saved me today, Debby! I'm making dinner in the crockpot but I forgot to put the fixings in the crockpot! So thank goodness, your post reminded me to hurry to the kitchen and get that done before I head out! Thank you, thank you!!

  8. Yikes! How did you fall? Hope you're OK, more or less, and not too "boogered up."

I find your comments in spam now and then but not every time. The whole spam thing is quite annoying. I don't understand why Blogger can't figure out that those of us who comment repeatedly on each others' blogs, and have been FOR YEARS, probably aren't spam!

    1. We have two saw horses with a board across them as a work table. We moved that worktable. The saw horse leg was extending past the end of the 'work table', just a bit. I was carrying something and looking at something in front of me. I should have been looking down. The blog thing is a major PITA. Some blogs I can't comment on at all on my phone. Others, I can, but the comment is anonymous. (Even on my own blog!) It never used to be that way. Now, on the main computer, I comment but it may or may not publish. I don't understand what has changed.

  9. Sorry to hear about a fall! I think we have many opportunities to do that, tumble head over teakettle, so when we actually do, it's just an actual missed step or whatever. Hope your "boogerd up" places heal nicely. Spam is just like Steve said, a real headache, but I don't want blogger to update again...that causes more problems than solutions usually for me. Thanks for the Petty song.

    1. I'm pretty good at staying upright, most of the time. Except when I'm flat on my face.

  10. You commented on a post of mine on Jan. 27. I check my spam every day to see if something is there that shouldn't be. It does happen.
Isn't falling the weirdest? One moment you're upright like a normal human doing your normal human thing and the next you're doing something that you have no control over whatsoever and then find yourself on the ground doing an assessment. And to me, it feels so embarrassing- like- How did I let THAT happen? Dang gravity!
Well, coddle yourself a little bit. Knees and elbows are very important.

    1. No coddling in this house. Tim is going to teach me how to run the wiring. He'll hook everything up once that's done.

    2. I fell in public a couple years ago, on an uneven sidewalk and gave my knee a bone bruise which STILL has not healed two. full. years. later. I hobbled back to the house certain that the neighbors thought I had a drinking problem.

  11. I still think of those days as a kid when I would willingly toss my body trying to be a hero, not caring how I landed and never got more than a grass stain. These days, I try to be extremely careful and if I do fall, I concentrate on the landing and then spend time doing damage assessments before getting up. Oh to be younger again.

    1. I think we bounced when we were kids. Somewhere along the line we lost that skill set.

  12. I have some long time blog friends who can no longer comment on my posts. Neither of us knows why. Some comments from others appear and, for some, I have to go into my design screen and approve. It boggles my mind.
Meanwhile I am so sorry you fell. I have had some monster falls in the past few years - an epic one while washing dishes in my kitchen that resulted in surgery, metal rods and an astronomical bill almost all covered due to a supplemental to my medical that I didn't realize I purchased to a trip over a lump of air at an amusement park where I gathered a huge crowd of people with cell phones. To my relief they were googling first aid for me, not making tictoks. I have always been a naturally clumsy person, but now I, despite my size, I don't seem to bounce.

    1. OMG. You fell while doing dishes??? I need to hear more about that. I do understand how hazardous lumps of air are. Yet no one speaks of them. It has to be some sort of cover-up going on...

Unlike for some, your comments normally don't end up in spam.

  16. Didn't mean to be annoying, but after your fall story, maybe I should say "Be Careful" daily, eh? (I just saw too many banged up faces and broken hips stretched out on the ER gurney = the feet look funny, like one is turned the wrong way, yep, that's another broken hip.) Consider hockey gear this time of year maybe? Linda in Kansas

  17. A few years ago I stopped being able to comment using Safari ....I started using Chrome ( having transferred all my bookmarked blogs that I read over to there... I needed help to do that!!) and it still works for me.
Hope that your knee and elbow will soon be back their normal pain! The last time I fell over, I tripped on the door sill while carrying two heavy bags and threw myself and the bags all over the hall floor. There is a weird moment before you hit the ground, wondering what you might break....in my case it was just a couple of eggs I think! I now put the bags in first and hold on to the door handle before stepping in.....live and learn they say!
