Paaaaarty!

Yesterday, I stopped in to buy a bag of litter. I noticed a display of sparkley cat toys. Now. Houdini has a boa type toy that we've stuck the handle into a drawer and shut it up leaving it to dangle enticingly. Sometime, you might walk into the kitchen and see a paw withdrawing from it, going back under the hoosier, but other than that, and the sock love, I've not really seen much sign that he's a playful cat.

Looking at the display though, I wondered. I've never seen a cat that can resist chasing after something, so I picked up a few things. Before bed, I scattered them around the kitchen, hoping to pique his attention. I also set down a bowl of heated kibble for him. Then I went to bed.

This morning I opened the kitchen door and everything was catty-wumpus....scatter rugs were scattered everywhere. One of the toys had glittery pompoms and feathers. 'Had' is the operative word. Shoes knocked assunder, A bowl had been knocked, spilling kibble on the floor. Toys were everywhere. Kitty chaos had very obviously reigned surpreme in the night. Made me laugh.

I set everything back to rights and gave him a scritch under his chin and a couple kitty treats. He purred and he was still purring loudly as I sat there drinking my morning coffee. At one point, he stood up and peeked around the corner, watching me carefully. I spoke to him and very slowly, he retreated back to his bed between the wall and the hoosier.

The little critter is sorting it out.

  2. Catty-wumpus. What a wonderful expression for cat mayhem.

    1. I imagine Tiger Kitty will give you a lesson or two in catty-wumpus. Domino seems far more dignified.

  3. How sweet! Our cats play with their toys at night too and if they do happen to be caught at it, they act as if they were certainly NOT playing and no, they would NOT ever do such a thing but boy, they sure can make a mess of the rugs, can't they?

    1. Well, just the knowledge that he's playful is yet another thing to tease him out of his hidey hole. This morning, when I brought the laundry through, I tossed a jingle ball towards his corner. I was in the livingroom when I heard him. He couldn't not bat that ball.

  4. My friend has a cat, and my friend works 10 to 11 hours a day, she makes sure her house is always neat before she leaves for work. The cat has a little box with her toys in it, when friend comes home the toys are all over the house, even under things. The cat has a great time in the daytime, I think. She lives in a small apartment building in the evening the cat sits in the front window until every car that comes home in the evening is in the parking lot and then settles in to be fed and played with,

  8. I remember when I used to have two cats and they stayed downstairs at night. Under my bedroom was a long, tiled hallwa; it used to sound like they were bowling down there and when I got up in the morning the rug was all pushed up against the door.
I'm glad Harry Houdini is making himself visible.

  12. I understood a 'hoosier' was a person from Indiana. I'm puzzled.

    1. I think so. If the condition of the feathered toy is any indication, he is a hunter.

  17. Too funny!! Sounds like Houdini is settling in. Too bad you don't have a security camera in the kitchen, that would be hysterical to watch.
