Cleaning up.

This is a thousand dollar faucet. What makes it a thousand dollar faucet is beyond my understanding. However, we did not pay $1000 for it, and so it is in our kitchen.

Tomorrow, I get my staples out and I'm pleased about that. They catch on the sheets at night, and that is an icky feeling to wake up to.

It is still chilly here and the chill bothers my leg, but I went to the new house today. I putzed around, and Tim and I had stern words. I haven't been there for a week and a half, and the man has a tendency to just leave shit everywhere. There is no reason he can't simply throw trash out. I cleaned, again.  I put the privacy film on the window in the bathroom. We did some little inside things. He did some weedwhacking.

We have left over building supplies. Tim wanted to hang on to it in case we need it for the rentals. The thing is, the rentals are, at this point, 100% renovated. We know for a fact we are not buying any more of them. This stuff would be sitting around for years waiting to be used.

I put up an ad on facebook listing what we have, letting people know that it's enough for small jobs. A man was interested in the flooring. He asked questions. He mentioned that he and his wife have been wanting to replace the flooring in their kitchen, but that something always seemed to come up. I told him that we'd been there a time or two ourselves. He said that he just found out that he had prostate cancer. He is doing all the testing and stuff, but he's trying to work as much as possible, because he knows he'll need to take time off. I told him that we'd been there too.

In the end, I took the ad down from Market Place. He's coming tomorrow night. He can have first dibs on it. He's welcome to any of it, or all of it. We can put the ad back up once he's had first dibs.

Tim is traveling tomorrow. He's going to get the wood to frame the windows in. That will be a great thing to get accomplished.

  1. I hope the man can use the flooring. After my husband died, a guy showed up with his son and he wanted to buy my husband's Jeep for the two of them to work on together. He had had cancer and even went to the same oncology office as my husband. We reminisced about some of the doctors there. I probably could have gotten more for the Jeep, but very much wanted him (and his son) to have it.

    1. It is kind of amazing when that happens, isn't it? That things wind up going where they are meant to go.

  2. I've taken a few people to get their stiches out. It isn't pleasant but brings relief.

    1. I have never minded. I don't know that I ever had staples though.

  3. I think that every time you post on Facebook Marketplace the universe is sending people who need to be a part of your life to answer the ad.
I know it is a good feeling to have all the rehabs completed (not that there will not be ongoing normal maintenance) but to have no huge, major projects looming has to be a great feeling.
That is a very nice faucet but hard to believe it is a $1,000 item. I am constantly showed my husband similar comparisons (how much do you think I paid for this and how much do you think it retails for). We were very lucky to get all our faucets, etc on clearance at our hardware store. I think I could have even picked up some extra pieces I wasn't sure whether we would need or not just because the prices were so good. Hopefully we will not be keeping all our leftovers either.

    1. We have been accumulating clearance things for years. It is how we roll. And now it is time to pass it on.

  4. Well, that is a stunningly beautiful, spectacular faucet. In Tucson there is a high zoot fixtures store, and they do have pretty stuff, but the prices are just crazy. Good luck with the suture removal. I've never had staples, just the sewn kind. I really like the way the grout turned out, very nice.

    1. Really??! (Looks at picture again) I think that I must be a undiscerning person. It has a fancy name: Brizo...but if I was told to pick the most expensive faucet out of a herd of faucets, I just don't see anything to indicate that this is that faucet.

  5. I think my son has one of those...it is pretty cool, but $1000? Not for me.

    1. Quite honestly, I see nothing that really sets it apart from any other faucet. Tim likes it because the spray adjusts. But so does mine here, and I did not spend even close to that money.

  6. Is that the faucet that makes coffee and toast on voice command, walks the dog and answers the phone? For that price, I expect so.
I'm glad to hear you sounding better and I hope you're not pushing too hard.

    1. Lol. It did not do my knee replacement either. Just to be clear, I had a friend who was an interior designer and she entered co.petitions. she used that faucet in a display. It has never actually been used. Tim was so curious about it that she gave it to him. She was dying by then. In my mind it will always be Loretta's faucet.

  7. This personal reflection paints a vivid picture of everyday life layered with emotion, resilience, and generosity. Despite dealing with post-surgery discomfort and a persistent chill, you continue to care for your space and navigate challenges with Tim. The decision to offer building supplies to someone in need—especially someone going through a tough time—speaks volumes about your compassion.

The small frustrations of renovation are balanced by moments of humanity, like your connection with the man facing cancer. Altogether, it's a heartfelt reminder that kindness and empathy often surface in the most unexpected corners of ordinary days.

We've bought a few things online lately and found out that we have a lot in common with the seller when collecting them. It must be like calling to like!

  10. Well..it is a perfectly nice tap / faucet and I expect it will never need a new washer or gasket and be indestructible.

  11. What is the tap finish called? Anodised chrome? Dull chrome. I can't remember. I am sure the handle operation will be smooth as silk and it will never drip. I wonder if your taps are as flow restricted as ours are now. My kitchen tap is among the highest at (converting now) just under two gallons a minute. Unrestricted, it could be four times that much.

Yes, keep on at Tim about getting rid of what he don't need, unless it is you.

    1. The finish is brushed nickel. I've never heard of flow restricted faucets. I'll have to look that up.

  12. That is a classy-looking tap/faucet - solid, well engineered.
It's good when things find the right home with the right people.

  13. It's early, and for some reason when I first read the line, "...the man has a tendency to just leave shit everywhere" the word "leave" didn't register at all. I just didn't see it.

For about three seconds I was thinking, "WTF, Tim?!" haha.

  14. Wow, looking at that faucet, I would never guess it was the Ferrari of faucets, but then, maybe it's magic is on the inside! Stitches out will feel so good! Tim must be the type who gets so focused on the job, that he just works and drops what he doesn't need, and keeps going. Our son is like that, he has ADHD and man, can he ever focus, but he leaves a trail of stuff whenever he is working around his house.

    1. Turns out that you are right, Karla. The magic IS on the inside. Reading about them, they have no plastic parts and a lifetime warranty (which will not apply to us because we are not the original owners).

  15. That is a great looking faucet. I just had to get a new one and it was well under $200. I do prefer yours but not for $1000. It should never need replacing. Gigi

    1. We keep a supply of faucets on hand for the rentals when we see clearance sales. I can't ever remember spending more than a $100 on a kitchen faucet.

  17. The faucet looks lovely and I'm sure will last for many, many years. As for leaving shit everywhere, OMG, my husband is the same way, plus his procrastination, it drives my crazy (er). He's making a shed right now, and has spent the last 2-3 weeks looking at wood, not buying it, looking at it.
I'm glad the staples will be out soon. It doesn't usually take long to take them out, minutes. My patients were always surprised at how quick it was.
That's good that you're getting rid of all the "extras" that Tim likes to keep, just in case. I'm sure it will help that man out a lot.
Our renter can't buy our house sadly. Her dad tried to get financing and it would cost too much. She, and her kids, will be moving in with him in August, so something good came of it.

  18. Maybe that faucet is made of silver? or platinum? Just being silly. I can't imagine anyone paying $1000 for a faucet.
Good luck with the staple removal! Hope the leg keeps feeling better and better!

  19. I can usually tell the most expensive item in a given category, it's the one I am most drawn to. Not the best or most functional mind you, just the most expensive.

Good job with moving the surplus materials along - I've been remit in that regard myself (potential quilting fabric.....) but it's always easier to see that other people's stuff is surplus.

Cheers! Oh and I had staples for 2 cesarean deliveries and having them out was just a little tug, no big deal. The person doing mine chatted so charmingly that I hardly noticed.
