Step by Step

Got the vanity in today. I really do like the sink a lot. I did the building of the vanity while Tim did the plumbing stuff.

Tomorrow, he will hook up the bathtub/shower combo. I will be building the matching cabinet that will hang to the side of the sink. We'll get that hung, put the light up over the vanity, hang a mirror.

Go us.

Oklahomans have voted in a curriculum change.

It has been chilly here. Freeze warnings tonight.

    1. Oh no. He would wait to do that. The danger time will be next winter when he's run out of stuff to keep him busy and then starts looking around.

    3. True story, GZ. He ripped out the kitchen wall and replaced a window right before Thanksgiving! And then insulated very well and left it open. For years. Boy I was pissed. It was the third time he ripped drywall down. I told him that he couldn't do that unless he planned to fix it ASAP.

  4. A loo with a view. One of those pretty stick on sheets would give you privacy - there's one I loved which was like a stained glass window. Such rich colours.

Progress anyway, and I'm sure that the tiles are fine, really.

    1. I bought some window film. I toyed around with the idea of getting holographic film so that the room would be filled with rainbows, but in the end, decided to go with something plainer. We have this film on both our bathrooms at our current house, and the stuff is great. Allows the room to be bright, but I like to know the world is not watching me be naked!

    1. I do too. That is something that was on clearance a few years back, and I honestly had forgotten that we had gotten it.

    1. Tim was wanting to move in before surgery. It would have been nice, but really, it's just way too much work in too short a period of time.

  8. I like the wall panelling along the walls, and the way it becomes a splash back/back splash for the basin.

    Are all Oklahomans mad?

    1. At this point, Jabblog, I'm getting the feeling that America has gone mad. One thing to note, Ryan Walters, State Superintendent stuck that in the night before it was voted on. https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/education/2025/03/14/mention-of-2020-election-discrepancies-slipped-into-ok-social-studies-standards/82378280007/

  10. It is cold up here too. As I don’t have air conditioning, I bought an upright fan for my bedroom at Costco this week. At this rate, maybe I won’t even need it this summer. You are getting your house ready for move in so fast. Do you think you will be in before your operation? Everything is looking great, you two are so talented. Gigi

    1. We have never had air conditioning. The nice thing about where we are is that we've usually got quite a nice breeze coming in from the west. We can just let mother nature keep the house comfortable.

  11. Your bathroom looks amazing. I love that bead board and I love the large tiles around the tub. As others have said, large tiles, less grout. I hope everything goes well with your knee replacement but it sounds like you're ready and I know (from reading your blog) that you will be diligent in doing your rehab exercises. Take care Debby.

  17. The bathroom is looking great! I like that sink too. We redid ours a few years ago and took out the tub. Put in a walkin shower instead. Best decision ever for us. I kinda miss the tub, but we rarely took baths, and when we had our knee replacements it was a godsend.
About after-surgery...did they give you an ice machine? If not, be sure to have several good, flexible icepack on hand because you will sure need them. Also, did they give you compression sleeves for your legs? You can borrow mine if you like. They helped me a lot. Also, plan on having a little table beside wherever you will be resting, if you don't have one. I found it impossible to sleep in the bed so spent about 2 months on the couch or in the recliner. You may need a toilet seat booster too. We gave a tall toilet but it still wasn't tall enough. And a shower chair. After a couple weeks you should be able to graduate to a cane, so it's good that you can pass on the walker. I used mine at night just for extra stability for about a month though. I probably didn't need it, but I was sleeping so badly I often felt woozy when I got up. Please feel free to email me anytime!

    1. I didn't get an ice machine, but we are going to invest in cold packs to switch out.

    2. Thanks for the tips, though. I will keep you in my back pocket. It's good to have an expert! I don't have a recliner. I do have a sofa I can stretch out on. I was looking at our toilet. I have an old fashioned washstand by it to push up on. I think that I'm okay with that.
