It Came to Blows.

It was bound to happen at some point. I was using a swing stapler to staple the insulation against the bottom of the roof trusses, and I was getting aggravated because apparently I lack the hand/upper body strength to get the staple all the way into the truss. When I tried to adjust the paper, staples would drop to the floor.

I practiced with new ways to hold and swing the stapler while trying to hold the paper flat with my other hand. I swung a mighty swing and *bam*! I smote my left index finger a mighty blow, which caused a mighty oath to spring forth. There was blood running everywhere, and I did the best I could with a piece of zip tape and a strip of paper toweling.

Forgive the bad picture...or maybe you're grateful for it. My phone is on its last legs.

I tried to continue on, but the job was even more awkward with a zip tape wrapped finger. I gave up and went down into the basement in frustration. "I can't do it," I said. "I don't know why I can't do it, but I'm making a mess of it. I can help, but I can't manage the stapler part."

So he came upstairs and I maneuvered him on the scaffolding as he did the stapling. I quietly cleared the work areas in preparation for moving the scaffolding. Oh the shame! I finally had a job to do, and I had proven myself incompetent.

I heard a noise and looked up to see Tim shaking a bloody finger.

He, too, had smote his finger a mighty blow. His and her boo-boos. Same finger. Same hand.

I think maybe he did this to make me feel better about myself.

  2. I wonder what Tim was thinking about you and your stapling efforts before he smote his own finger.
You are certainly ever the optimist.

    1. I am sure he was disappointed. He didn't say anything, though.

  3. Ouch! I wouldn’t be surprised if he did it on purpose, I think he really loves you a lot ..🥰 Hope your fingers heal quickly! Xo, Rigmor

  4. LOL. I truly doubt he did it intentionally, but as the song goes 'Love hurts...'

  6. You are doing a job with some risk. The tools also have some risk.

    1. It was a weird moment, for sure. I looked up and saw his finger dripping and said, "Awwwww! You hit the same finger on the same hand that I did.' He looked at me like I was some kind of eedjit.

  8. We all have different skill sets, I hope your finger does not give you too much more pain and heals quickly.

    1. It will be okay. I don't think I'm going to lose the nail. I will go back to being the bumbling uncoordinated fool you all know and love.

  9. Ouch ! Take care of that finger ( and Tim's) it looks deep. See a medic if it looks at all dodgy.

    1. It's a giant blood blister that takes up the side and back of my finger. It looks gruesome, but it's not really all that bad.

  10. I am the person glad that the picture wasn't clearer! I hope you will both be feeling better soon.

  13. I have such admiration for you and your Hubs, for taking on a job as big as this! (and all of your other jobs on top of this one!) My Hubs and I took on parts of our whole-house reno, and man, I never want to do that again! We both had smashed fingers, scrapes, and wounds of all kinds - good Lord! As Jennifer said, at least it's nice to have company in the misery!

    1. After the house is done, we have one more renovation to do. I told Tim that if he's hellbent on buying another reno, he'll be doing it on his own. I'm done.

  14. Is your tetanus up to date? That does look painful - so sorry that Tim is an experience learner rather than an observational one. And just before his birthday?!

  16. I don't want to see a better picture. That's enough for me. Get lots of antiseptic on it, and keep putting it on. Hope it deals up quickly.

    1. It felt a lot better after washing dishes last night, really. The hot soapy water was a big comfort for it.

  17. It wasn't just you then, maybe it is the fault of the swing stapler!

    1. It would give me some comfort to think just that. However....

  18. Perhaps you and Tim should go get matching Tetanus shots.

  19. I have never used a swing stapler but always one of those squeeze handle staplers. It is nearly impossible to staple your own finger but comes at the price of hand cramping. One of these days, I have sworn that I'm going to get a battery operated staple gun but the price has kept me out of the market for no more than I need to use one.

  21. wow, a pair of boo boos between sweet lovers. You should make a Valentine card photo of both fingers. Joking of course. So sorry you both hurt. I'm always amazed to hear what you all can, and do, do!

  22. Ow!! But consolation that Tim did the same, and no, you are not allowed to laugh....not within sight or earshot anyway!!

  23. Ouuuuch! I got the shivers just looking at your finger. And here I thought snipping my hand while cutting my hair was bad.
