Short One

The protest was well attended despite the  cold.
My sign said 'when our government starts quoting Nazis, we all need to speak up.' Tim's said, 'Christian Nationalism is not Christianity. Jesus wept"

It feels good to be with like minds. We got quite a bit of support from the cars passing by.

We also got the expected blowback. But this time, it seemed angrier. A woman approached us on foot screaming. "I am sorry you hate America." Drivers shouted obscenities. We waved cheerfully. We will be there next week.

Another gold medal:

  1. Thank you for showing up and speaking up.

  2. You and Tim had good signs. Touching words from Karl Stojka, Auschwitz survivor. Nazis wouldn’t have any power unless ordinary people embrace their hateful philosophy. For these shameless haters to call themselves Christians is so very wrong and reprehensible. Cali

  3. Thank you for doing what I wish I could do! Hard to have any pride in being an American right now!

  4. You are an inspiration! Ours wasn't really planned until Monday and we were hoping for 20 and would have been happy with 10 with the bitter cold temperatures. We had FIFTY people show up with signs and even an inflatable frog costume! We did do better, many people honked and waved and gave us a thumbs up. We had the random country boy "rolling coal" from his truck where he blows black smoke on you. They are so cool. As we were chanting Love, Not Hate, makes our country great, several people drove by giving us the finger which I guess means they are on the side of hate. I did get my picture as the abominable snowman in the paper - I will share on my next post.

  5. We had about the same number of people here. One thing is that we had a truck with a plow that actually extended over the curb (it was raised). I felt as if he was trying to make people nervous. I stayed right where I was.

  9. So sorry you have to go through all this all because of a lunatic-in-charge. Love his newest gold medal, I can’t imagine what it would be like to stand up and babble knowing that people are laughing at me. And if he gets upset, he just raises tariffs and scams even more money. Stay safe out there protesting. Gigi

  10. Such division. No wonder he can carry on in his awfulness.

  11. I love the Gold Medal ... Just another fake award! He really thinks he ended 8 wars ... his brain really is mush! Miller is pushing all the keys! Amendment 25 really needs to be utilized and soon!

  12. Thank you for getting out there, Debby. Keep up the good work!

  13. Do you suppose these people are getting angrier because they are finally coming to the awareness that DT does not care in the least about either them or America?

  14. I wish I felt confident enough in my physical abilities to protest, but if I were to be pushed down by a dissenter, it would be very dangerous for my almost 85-year-old bones. So I will continue to send as much monetary support I can to the Democratic party and to ACLU and anyone else I deem appropriate. Plus, I forward all the Facebook spots to try to educate my associates and family who insist on worshipping that piece of sh..garbage. (Did you see how I cleaned that last word up for you??)

  15. I'm glad you're protesting. And the dissenters, wow. Makes you wonder what goes inside their minds.

  16. The antics of the orange buffoon over the weekend (his letter to the PM of Norway) have made it abundantly clear that he is dangerously divorced from reality and getting worse by the day. The horrifying thing is that the Republicans will do nothing to stop him. They're gonna ride this all the way to the crash site to the detriment of all of us. I know damn well that there are some of them that know how bad he is and the effect it is having on the country and the rest of the world. The shameful thing is that they are all cowards and afraid to speak up.

    1. That letter was the very epitome of pettiness. What a small, small man.

  17. I protest whenever I can. Ive been pretty depressed about the turn this country has taken. I don't understand at all how anyone supports fascism. The Pillsbury medal cartoon is particularly ironic because Pillsbury was founded in Minneapolis, with mills on the Minnesota side of the Mississippi River.

    1. Yesterday, I was depressed about it all, but stopping is not an option for either one of us.

Thank you for the background information. That is very ironic...but so appropriation.

  18. This thing about criticism of your country meaning you "hate" it is really disturbing. Am I a proud Aussie? You bet! Are there things about my country that is like to see improve? The racism, the inequality, the current political divisions, the environmental degradation? Bring it on! Just because you can see things you'd like to improve doesn't mean you "hate" or that you want to leave.

Sorry, it makes me a little bit under the collar and I rant a bit!

    1. I really try to control my tongue. The comment did make me mad, but I saw one of our Vietnam vets handling it and decided to let them to it.

  19. Have you read The Black Wolf by Louise Penny? She incorporated lots of what is going on now into her mystery.
    Glad to hear you're demonstrating.

  20. You know, really, we can't not protest. I just never imagined these days. Tim is a quiet man, but he was the one who said, 'We need to be there every single Saturday.
