The Storm Approaches

Steve over at Shadows and Light noted that he can't reply to comments on his blog. At this point, I am having the same issue. My apologies to the missed comments. I tried.

It was cold this morning. Single digits. After all the uncertainty, it seems the weatherman are agreed. Tomorrow is supposed to be another cold windy day. The storm proper is supposed to hit Saturday night and go through Monday morning. They are calling for a foot of snow.

The gas has stayed steady. The house is warm. Since this cold snap is the first prolonged test of the new regulator, we have decided to stick close to home this weekend just to keep an eye on things.

No protesting tomorrow.

The day started at the gym, back home. Tim went into town to take care of a tenant issue and some banking. I kept myself busy hanging pictures that have been leaned against the wall since August. I didn't want to hang anything until I was certain of furniture. I guess it is as settled as it is going to get.

Mattie had sent along a box of freezer containers that Levi had picked up at auction. That was a fine gift. Probably came from someone's cellar. I put them all to soak in hot water and then wrote a thank you to Mattie for thinking of me. I gave everything a run through the dishwasher to sterilize it.

I have a pot of beans soaking. Chili is a good storm meal. It is -5°F right now.

I can't comment on current events right now. A 5 year old child. And still there are those noble minds standing in the middle, yelping about both sides, unwilling to simply say it: using a five year old child as bait is wrong. That handcuffeing someone who was following the rules, who was in the middle of processing is wrong. That putting a child in a detention center is wrong....

But no.

Tasker has been much on my mind today

  1. What kind of people defend using a 5 yr old child as bait to illegally capture a person who is here LEGALLY and then imprison that child in a detention center in another state? What about going after all of those gang members that that buffoon was blathering about? Oh right, those guys are armed and the ICE incels are scared to death of them.

  2. What the American government is doing is beyond despicable. My own grandson accidently heard the story on the TV and wanted to know what the boy had done and who was taking care of him. It makes me sick and angry as hell.
Stay warm and off the roads:)
I can't reply to my comments either.

  3. What Jim said.
The photo of the 5 year old reminds me of the little Honduran girl (2 years old) who was crying while her mother was being arrested. It made the cover of Time. The details were wrong, but she became an emblem of the horrors of crossing the border in the first time of the orange cheeto.

  5. My grandson is five and attends kindergarten just like little Liam. He has to be so terrified. I can't stop crying.

    1. I am so proud of Minnesota. They are showing how it is done.

  6. Catching up with you after a couple of too-busy days! First, yesterday's post about the guy who commented on your hair: isn't it interesting how strangers feel they can comment on a person's appearance? And how such a comment can linger (and sometimes hurt)? We often remember denigrating comments yet forget the positive ones. Humans, we are so weird.
Waiting for the storm here too. It sounds like you are well prepared

    1. Interestingly enough, it did not hurt my feelings at all. I am a very selfconscious person, but it didn't bother me. I guess I am growing up!
