First of all, I want to provide a link to Fresca's l'astronave. As a protester on the ground in Minneapolis, her insights are invaluable.
I am not going to post the video. The gun was in a holster. Pretti was licensed to legally carry. The videos taken from all directions show him filming with his camera while reaching down ro help a woman who had been knocked to the ground by ICE. Agents gassed them both. Pretti still held his phone. His empty hand was held in front of him. Agents shouted "He has a gun". The gun was taken by an agent in a gray ICE jacket. Only after that did the shots ring out.
According to the Star Tribune, witnesses were rounded up 'for their safety and protection'.

Despite this, Kristi Noem immediately claimed the agents had been rushed by Pretti brandishing a weapon. Trump immediately began referring to Pretti as 'an animal'. The MAGA faithful claim the video plainly justifies ICE actions.
It doesn't.
Alex Pretti's parents spoke.

Even the NRA spoke up, and lord knows, it has been forever since they have said anything I agreed with.

Remember that the Revolutionary War was ignited by the Boston Massacre. The British fired into a crowd of protesters.
A lot going on, so:
Weatherwise: still snowing. The hydraulic pump on the tractor chose this moment to quit. New pump ordered. $400 and a week will get that taken care of. Unfortunately, the snow was not willing to hold off. Fortunately, the man who has shit stashed everywhere had a snowplow to put on the dump truck. So we were saved from shoveling.. I made home made pizza instead.
It is still snowing. There is probably a foot on the ground.

Yay for the guys with a garage or barn full of things they might need one day. Once my husband repaired a neighbor's furnace on Christmas Eve when the plumber couldn't get the part. We just happened to have a spare on a shelf.
ReplyDeleteI am sad and devastated and overwhelmed and sad and angry and livid and horrified. It has to stop. They have to be stopped.
Gees, Merry, I am glad to see your comment. How are you feeling?
DeleteWe got over 20 inches of snow so far today. I cant let the dog out as she is only about 11 inches tall. Will be stuck in the house for at least two days til snow plows and my snow shovelers come by. What another terrible tragedy in Minneapolis, a nurse peacefully protesting. And donald lies. He is terrorizing instead of doing anything he campaigned on. And Americans wonder why Canadians don’t want to go there ever again. You tried to warn voters to not vote for the piece of shit that he is. He is hated all around the world now, a good thing. Gigi
ReplyDeleteI loved Meloni's response to his NATO bluster: '"Perfect. We'll close your bases, ditch your trade deals and boycott McDonald's for good measure." Europe is coming together and we have your Mr. Carney to thank for that one, I believe.
DeleteI'm so angry at people who think we should keep quiet like good little sheep and let ICE terrorize others. I will keep protesting. Thank you for speaking out. And good luck digging out of the snow!
ReplyDeleteGood for you Celie. The people I am heartily fed up with are the MAGA parrots who just echo the lies.
DeleteAll power to resisters in every way! If we all do what we can we'll get rid of this terrorist regime. Very good about the plowing. One of my neighbors wishes he was your neighbor -- his furnace went and they'll only come out if there's a gas leak in this weather. I bet he needs a part that's probably in your shed!
ReplyDeleteLol. Boud, we have two furnaces stockpiled. We could surely fix your neighbor up.
DeleteSo very sad for America right now. This current administration doesn’t represent the majority of us. So proud of Minnesota for standing tall through these horrifying times. Cali
ReplyDeleteTim Walz said it beautifully. "If he was intending to make example of Minnesota, then I am darnn proud of the example we are setting"
DeleteDebby I appreciate you sharing what you did about this poor man who was murdered by Ice agents. I was aware he had a gun, but not the details. I hope things come to a head soon, these killings have got to stop.
ReplyDeleteWe can only press on, Doug. However we can.
DeleteFor once, we were spared — so far and mostly.
ReplyDeleteDear heavens, you better knock wood right now!
DeleteI am still shocked by the appalling spectacle of a public execution on the streets of an allegedly civilised country, with its Leaders denying the evidence shown on video. How can this madness end?
ReplyDeleteI don't know that we can apply the term 'civilised' to ourselves anymore. I am not being facetious when I say this.
DeleteDo you mean some of the junk we have might just be useful. As for the events in Minneapolis, words defy me, it's evil and madness.
ReplyDeleteTim has long held the opinion that his junk is important. My junk is junk. As far as Minneapolis, I just don't understand how anyone can claim he was running at ICE brandishing a weapon. But they are. It is crazy.
DeleteI have no words. When are mid-terms?
ReplyDeleteOh my God. Not until November. Encouragingly, this event may have galvanized the senate. There is talk that they have enough no votes to stop the passage of the budget. This would freeze funding for ICE. It would also shut down the government. We are in a bad place
DeleteI don't think Elections are often enuf, so, something else has to happen. I have no Words either.
ReplyDeleteI keep telling myself we are at a tipping point. The 'tip' just never seems to happen.
DeleteThe teetering on the brink is painful
DeleteI just want to give things a push...just a little one...
DeleteYour tractor saw sense...it didn't want to go out in that weather either!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your links to Fresca's blog.
Lol. Tim is a master at convincing them to come back to work.
ReplyDeleteWe got the brunt of that storm yesterday in Toronto, 22 inches of snow in about 12 hours. My snow guys came at midnight and now I can at least take dog out to the sidewalk. I shovelled a very small patch at the bottom of the back stairs, but I just couldn’t make it big enough yet as my breathing was bad. Maybe later. The snowplow has plowed in my driveway so won’t be able to get the car out yet. Maybe my neighbour will dig it out but I won’t ask him as I don’t think he should be shovelling anymore .. I hope you didn’t get hit as bad where you are. Gigi
ReplyDeleteIt is over a foot to be sure, but no where near as bad as your totals. We will finish digging out. Then we have to go to town to shovel out there.
DeleteThanks, Debby—It’s a weird position to find one cell phone, let me tell you – – blogging about a home invasion. But we have homeground advantage – – the person who cares most wins!
ReplyDelete“to find oneself in” 🙄 (not cell phone)
DeleteI see your battle with autocorrect is a lot like mine. I really think the thing that people don't understand is the disruption that this caused in your city. I really do think you all are doing a fine job of resisting peacefully.
DeleteTheir obvious lies will be their downfall. Thank goodness for the good people who are recording these atrocities and sharing it for all to see.
ReplyDeleteOh, Ellen. I would love to believe that. It seems as if truth is not important any more.
DeleteThe only thing I can say is that we have entered the dark times.
ReplyDeleteThe old world is dying. The new world struggles to be born. Now is the time of monsters.
DeleteHi Debby, just shy of 17” snow from Fern and then some lake effect last night here south of Akron. Horrible news cycle…brutal.storm damage and murderous armed goons in MN and now PA? 🤬. I hope our anger will only grow on our side and coalesce into a burning resolve to overturn this cruel and corrupt administration and its psychopathic and pathetic, inept figurehead. Hang tough, all. We've done it before. We CAN do it again. ✊💪 Keep safe. Kris in Ohio
ReplyDeleteI saw a quiet little sign at a register. 'Giving up is not an option.' I was so encouraged by it.
DeleteThanks for posting the link to Fresca's page. Good to read about how it is going there in MN from someone there.
ReplyDeleteStill snowing here in NH. Piling up beyond a foot of snow by now.
Started snowing here again. I did not think we were getting more snow.
DeleteThe horror unfolding on the streets of Minneapolis flows from the top. This is what that deranged narcissist wants, chaos so that he can say "see, we have riots and people attacking Federal agents, they're out of control, I have to invoke the Insurrection Act." He is creating this, or rather that twisted little creature Miller is doing it, Trump's along for the ride here, he's just the useful idiot that he's always been. Their lies are wearing thin though, I can feel things changing, one just hopes that the Republican reptiles come to their senses and end this, they have the power to do it if they can summon the courage.
ReplyDeleteI think as trump continues decline, the puppet masters will be revealed. I do believe it is falling apart.
DeleteI keep thinking maybe the tide is turning slightly, but who knows. The 2A people must be having cognitive dissonance about a peaceful guy with a carry permit being shot in the street for having a gun. If he didn't have 2A protection, then no one does.
ReplyDeleteListen, I did not have the NRA stands against MAGA. I consider this earthshaking. Trump seems to be reconsidering Minnesota.
DeleteI love your memes and your wise words. I'm beyond horrified by all of it.
ReplyDeleteStephen Miller is the Gollum of the White House, isn't he? Tolkien warned us all of what happens when we become consumed by our greed and narcissism: "My Precious!" (I guess Miller's "Precious" is Trump.)
He just seems to radiate bad juju, doesn't he?:
DeleteImagine the country without phone cameras at the ready. My neighbour's daughter and grandson have just left for the US for a long planned and mostly prepaid holiday. HH, is very worried about the snow, the ice and ICE.
ReplyDeleteHH has every right to be concerned. If I didn't live here, I surely would not come here.
DeleteI have been so angry about all that's going on. I can't believe ICE was sent to the town where I lived and taught also in Illinois. I can't believe ICE has killed two people now and Trump and his cohorts are not taking responsibility.
ReplyDeleteI think we are seeing things begin to crack. It is awful.
DeleteI hope. I keep hoping.
DeleteMore and more people are speaking out and stepping up. The tide, I think , is turning. Not nearly soon enough.
ReplyDeleteDid you see Bovino is out??!!
DeleteI hope the tide is finally turning. It's time, but the cult followers will never lose faith in their leader, sadly.
ReplyDeleteI think the tide will turn. I don't know that things will be righted in my lifetime though.
ReplyDeleteDebby, here is a link to a Guardian article by Robert Reich. As always he has his finger on the pulse of the public. The article is both cautious as well as hopeful. I'm leaning on the hopeful part. Kris in Ohio https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/jan/27/america-tipping-point-fascism-opposition
DeleteThank you Kris.
