Trump is not a mom, but he is a mother

In today's episode of 'As the Stomach Turns' (not original, thank Carol Burnett) we have this irony.

*editorial note the 15 week training that was reduced to eight weeks has now been reduced to six weeks.

Yesterday, Christmas was moved to the attic, packed away for another year. My ornaments get packed away into an old steamer trunk, so the first order of business was getting that trunk into the attic. I was doubtful that this was possible. Tim was certain it could happen.

I went for a tape measure. The trunk was 19 inches, and Tim triumphantly crowed "We have 19 1/2 inches clearance!" Guess he showed me alright.

Maneuvering that trunk up the fold down ladder was a nightmare. After three attempts we finally managed it. It will be up there for the rest of our natural lives, because I am not hauling it back down. I made multiple trips up the ladder carrying the tree and boxes of things to be packed in the trunk.

While I was doing this I was surprised to see a young man walking across the yard. Tim had noticed that traffic was slowing down and walked down the driveway to take a look. He had a flat tire. Tim told him to pull into the driveway. His spare tire was down to the cords and not safe. Tim pondered it and checked his garage. He had a rim and tire that would fit and got the fellow on his way, telling him to return the rim when he was able to get a replacement. It will be interesting to see if that happens.

But that was yesterday and today is today. It has been  a quiet day. Raining, temps in the 60s.  Most of our snow is gone. Fear not: we have more on the way although I have not heard any reports of it being a snow event.

I went to my first exercise class today, and then walked the track after it was done.  I really see that I am so very lucky.  I intend to keep it that way. Sun, Tues, Thurs, I do my 5 miles. Mon, Wed, and Fri I do the class and full body workout.

Thelma left a comment with her 'battle song' yesterday. Here is another for your collection. Happy birthday.

Saturday we protest.

  1. Several years ago I talked family members into removing every item in our attic. I got rid of a lot of things and my dear husband found me a shelf in his shed for Christmas decoration. We have a pull down ladder too. And I don't ever have to use it again as my stuff is on ground level.
So impressed by your gym commitment! You go girl.
And I would expect no less from Tim than helping the traveler get on his way. You have quite a guy!
And thank you to you and Thelma. I am not completely sure yet, but it seems like Spotify has listened to the people and reflected on the boycott formed by their actions in accepting advertisements for a private secret army and is refusing to air them going forward. If that is for sure, I plan to return and add these songs to my demonstration playlist. It took me a while to figure out how to create the playlist then how to hook it up from my phone to my speaker and how to get the correct subscription so it didn't play any commercials during a protest.

    1. You are far more committed to demonstrating than we have been, I am sad to say. However, we both feel that it is important to commit to this. As I understand it Spotify HAS made the decision to pull advertising for ICE. I think the most powerful tools in our tool box are how we spend (or don't spend) our money and our vote. However, protesting is becoming increasingly important.

  2. Your walking distance is amazing. You are clearly quite fit even before gym, which makes wonder if you really need it. Add to that, getting the trunk into the attic.
That was kind of Tim. Keeping all sorts of junk can pay off. Do let us know if the wheel is returned.

    1. Like Debby, I use exercise and workouts to KEEP what I have and improve where I can. Kris in Ohio (79 and hanging tough!)

    2. Andrew: I was surprised to find that I can walk farther and faster than Tim and that my heart rate is consistently lower than his. He has spent all fall hunting and tramping through the woods. I guess that is a sign that all my waking before we moved did me a world of good. At this house, there is not really any place to walk. I gave my knee a sickening wrench on some uneven ground, and the effects of that lasted a week. I was terrified that I had done permanent damage. The holidays came, and the storms and I found myself being to put on pounds, which raised the specter of the whole medication for blood sugar arguments with the doctor. That is mainly why I am pushing myself. Weight control, blood sugar and BP. Plus, I just feel better.

  3. Trump is a mother, that's for sure. Tim gets points for being a good samaritan!

    1. We all can be a great help to each other even on the darkest days. Especially on the darkest days.

  5. That was quite a feat with the trunk. The tire thing was a real Tim-thing, wasn’t it?

    1. My gosh. It was an old camel back steamer trunk, covered in tin with oak strapping. Ye gods and little fishes. We are both very good and finding a way, once we know that something is possible. BTW, I fell asleep last night to another 'earworm. I cannot even remember what it was at this point, but I was awake enough to know what was happening. A most interesting discovery.

  6. Glen, too, is one to help strangers with their cars. Our fellas are so much alike. We are lucky.
You are SO to be commended for your work-outs. Keep it up.

    1. I laughed so hard at that clip because my younger daughter and I had had a conversation in which I had said "what could possibly go wrong???!!" To which she had replied "tis a mystery."

  7. I've been too sick to put my Christmas stuff away. Maybe I will start a little this afternoon. It's slow recovery from this awful flu.
I'm shocked how quickly this administration has ruined so much of our country.

  8. I cannot even imagine an attic - we have a highset house so everything requiring storage is "downstairs".
