Not the most cheerful post

I think our little blogging circle has a lot of blogs in common, but for anyone who doesn't know, please stop over at Oddball Observations and leave a kind word for Bruce. The link is in my side bar.

Went to the gym today. It is a bit surreal watching gray heads bobbing along with Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love." Don't know why it should. I am one of those gray heads. I mean, we grocery shop to that music these days. Anyways, they were very friendly and several of them tried to get us to join them. Maybe I will.

There are a lot of little stories to be seen at the gym. The old man who shuffled determinedly across the gym with his water bottle and his cane. I thought it was sweet that people set up his place for him. Bring the weights and resistance bands and the steps, etc.

The woman who worked quietly alone doing her stretches.

The obese woman who had to stop several times to lean against the wall.

The man in the weight room who looked so done in that i actually stopped to make sure he eas okay. He assured me he was and eventually headed to the treadmill.

We were all there for the same reason, I suppose. A refusal to go gentle into that good night, but the first time that Blue Oyster Cult's 'Don't Fear the Reaper' comes blasting out of those speakers, I will have to go lean against the wall and have a good laugh.

I cannot even begin to say one thing about today's events. Just awful. And still their are Americans who thing it is all justified. Other people who don't believe it has anything to do with them.

I will say this one thing: Family Life Radio is the Fox News of the radio airwaves, churning out pure propaganda.

Also: Christian Nationalism has nothing to do with Christianty.

That's it. That's all I got.

  2. Great job going to the gym again today! I am always shocked at how old I must be when I see people my age out in the wild. Good for all of you!
    I am sick. I am angry. I am devastated. I can't .

  4. I'm so sad for Bruce. Judy seemed an incredible person and they were, like my parents, a perfectly matched set. I hope he's going to be OK. I am lost in anger, discouragement and fear over what's happening in this country. My older daughter is interviewing for a job in Montreal; I will be brokenhearted if she (and her family) leave, but I understand why.

  5. Nice to take a trip to a gym! Yes, most of the news is horrid. I wish our usual / previous judicial system functioned faster to lock up criminals. It's hard to believe so many judges and politicians have been purchased, directly or indirectly. We've got to get the Idiot out, along with his cronies. Stephen Miller has been his guidance towards evil for many years. Linda in Kansas

  11. There is a great class at our gym, I think it's called Longevity. Quite a few people, men and women, take the class, and man, they are kickin' it! Weights, cardio, mobility and balance work. It's at a much slower pace and lighter weights, etc., but that's the whole point of it. I am not going quietly either, Debby, I will work to stay strong and mobile enough to avoid the walkers and diapers. As for the orange oaf, he is not going to stop because he can never be satisfied. That is how psychopathic toddler men work - they want it all, and don't care how they get it nor whom they hurt. He is yet another manifestation of the disease just with orange hair rather than a black mustache. History is full of men like him and his minions, and Karma took care of them. It will again, but sadly not before he has scorched the earth, as all the other tyrants did.

  12. We have a friend who has had several strokes, at least one type of cancer, and I don't even know what all. He can barely walk and can only use one side of his body for the most part. And yet...he goes to the gym. I'm really not sure what he does there but he has not given up. Nor has he given up driving and that's a whole other story.
So. Yes. ice has killed someone who looks like "us". And so the real outrage begins. I hate to put it that way and yet...here we are. There is no way to spin this one. The whole world is watching.

My mum lived in an assisted living place before she died and went to exercise classes there, some of the ladies in the class were over 100.

  16. Do they have Zumba classes at your gym? Those have been great fun for me.
I've been sick with the flu since 12/28 and the coughing just wears me out. The news gets worse and worse and I can't imagine how things will get better soon enough. 2026 hasn't started off well at all...

  18. The Y is good, not predatory. We briefly joined LA Fitness in Tucson, never again. They want all your money, forever. Planet Fitness was actually easy to use, and the don't allow dropping your weights or audible grunting. So, I miss the gym. Do they have battle ropes, those are really fun.

  19. I am so sorry for what Americans are going through just now and am very afraid this is spreading to us in the UK. We have our own mini Maga in Reform a party of millionairs funded in part by Christian nut cases in the USA with much the same lack of any moral values. The only way I think that we can fight them is with the kind of actions that show them for what they are. Jessica in Scotland

  20. I might have already recommended this book to you, Debby, but you should read Separation of Church and Hate by John Fugelsang. It's very informative for dealing with so called "christian nationalists".

    1. You have. My question is why? Have you ever known a Christian Nationalust who is willing to have a conversation? I haven't. They ser themselves as doing God's work. Anyone who debates them is the enemy of God's work in their mind, and this will unleash a flood of Christian self-righteousness the likes you have never see. They will tell you that they 'hate the sin but love the sinner' you of course being the sinner because you do not love God as they do. Will it help deal with MAGA? No. It will not because the thing about MAGA is that they are invariably the expert. They know more than any expert. Whether the topic be religion, law, the constitution. The insurrection, medical subjects of all kinds. They even have a crystal ball and can prophesy the future and what will happen if the chaos of dear leader is ignored. MAGA know all and if you disagree with them you are simply wrong. They quickly resort to ridicule and name calling. You and I are old friends. People who read this book already know Christian Nationalism is wrong. We will read it and agree with it. it will not have an impact on Christian nationalism or MAGA. I am willing to listen to where I am wrong on this.

  22. And yeah, yesterday's events are brutal and exhausting. You nailed it with that last line: Christian nationalism has nothing to do with Christianity, and those propaganda outlets are pouring gasoline on everything that’s already burning.
