Begin Again

First of all, I want to say that I am having one heck of a time commenting, on my own blog and everyone else's too. Please know that I am following along on your adventures. Even if I can't leave a comment.

We have a more than foot of snow on the ground and it still falling gently but steadily outside. Fred and Houdi have been fascinated by the big fluffy flakes and sit side by side at the sliding glass doors watching them, one orange and one gray head bobbing alertly as they watch the snow falling.

As for us, we have been snug as two bugs in a rug. Last night, Tim and I curled up to watch the old movie 'Starman' with Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen. Tim had never seen it. I had forgotten what a lovely piece of escapism it was.

We do have to go out today. That will give me a chance to pick up a bag of onions and some instant yeast. I have a craving for French onion soup.

My aunt died on the first day of the new year, my father's oldest sister. I got my middle name from her.

The holidays are over and this is the last weekend for the tree and lights. We will savor the dregs of the holiday as we eat the holiday left overs: sauerkraut and pork, venison and roasted vegetables or ham and spinach quiche...take your pick.

  1. Saw Starman a long time ago, loved it. Truly was a great piece of escapism, and we all need a lot of that these days.

  2. It's been so long since I've seen Starman but I do remember thinking it was a beautiful film.

    1. Thank you Linda. It looks like you had a nice holiday at your house. It is amazing to see the girls. They have all grown up so quickly. William will be 15 in just a few weeks.

  4. I was wondering how Fred and Houdi were getting on. Are they the only cats left now? ( For now😸😉)

Condolences on your family loss. It is that time of year...we lost a very close friend and teammate from Whyalla near Adelaide on New Year's Eve

    1. They are the innies. we brought Houdi in as a feral kitten. William tamed him. Freddie was a feral, tamed, left behind, tamed once again. I could not leave him behind. It took the two of them a while to settle down, but they are coexisting. It took a while. Now that it is snowing neither of them have any interest in being outside.

    1. I had a list. Forgot it on the table. Remembered everything on it, though. So proud!

  6. Commenting: sometimes switching devices helps, but you've probably already tried that.

    1. I only have my phone, so I haven't tried that. Our computer desk is being made.

  9. Sorry to read about the loss of your Aunt, always difficult and doubly so at this time of the year. We too are finishing up leftovers, although not so many as I made an effort not to buy so much. Hugs Xx

    1. I chopped the ham up and packaged it individually. A couple days after Christmas. One can only take so much of that: soup, scalloped potatoes, quiche, and we were hammed out. When it came to the traditional pork and sauerkraut, that was made in a very small batch, for the express purpose of minimizing left. I am about leftovered out!overs.

  10. Condolences on the loss of your aunt. So how are the cats going. I am setting up my new computer and the cat is flat out on the desk beside me here.

    1. Freddie and Houdi seem to be getting along fine. The ferals are out and about. I have tried to bring the ferals in, but they are not interested in anything more than a visit. We have 4 in the garage. Not sure where they are going.

  11. Not a Swedish proverb - but good advice anyway.

    1. TBH, the 'eat less, chew more' did not sound like "proverb" material. Happy new year.

  12. Sorry about losing your aunt. Aunts and uncles are special in so many ways. Can you bring in some snowflakes or snow balls for the kitties to figure out? Stay safe. Linda in Kansas

  13. It must be kind of nice to not have to think too much about what to cook for a couple of days. Sorry to hear about your aunt. I suppose she was a decent age.

  14. I'll take a slice of the quiche ... it's been ages since I've made one! I'm working on chicken & rice soup!
So glad the kitties are preferring to watch the snow ... can you grab a picture?
Snug and cozy in your new home ... that's about as good as it gets!

  15. I had that trouble with commenting a while back. I can't remember how I fixed it though :/
Sounds very cozy at your house. I am sorry about your aunt. It's always hard to lose a family member, even when they are quite elderly.
    Stay warm, Debby.

  16. Sounds like great weather for staying in and watching a movie! I'm not sure I ever saw "Starman" myself.
