Ever hear of Clay Jones? His cartoon won an RFK award the morning of the Uvalde massacre.
Is that an elephant in the room I see? Well done that boy. What a shame his award was not widely covered because of another mass shooting.
It is a very big elephant. You can already see what is happening here. The police badly mishandled this incident. The mayor is outraged. Gov. Abbott is outraged (scheduled to speak at an NRA event in Houston, but backed out, instead sending a pre-recorded speech) and with his face twisted in rage, vowed to get to the bottom of what happened there. And while the focus is on the mishandling of the event, what will slowly slip away, once again, is that an 18 year old boy was able to buy two assault weapons on his birthday, along with 375 rounds of ammo, and that there is something fundamentally wrong with that.
When will Americans rise up and say enough? The bloodshed has to stop. The cartoon is sadly so spot on; it's heartbreakingly true.
Like so may others, I now know that no matter how many children are slaughtered things will never change, The Republicans and the gun lobby will blame doors, video games, prescription drugs, the pandemic and a host of other things because that's just what they do. They do not care about the lives of children. It's just heartbreaking.
Oh, wow! Incredible coincidence.
Such a terrible cartoon but will it ever turn the tide?
I'm glad you're here!
