I continued weeding my plant junkyard. I have been buying distressed plants for a couple years now and tossing them into a spot I had designated to be a flowerbed at some point. Now I am weeding, taking stock of what has grown, filling in the empty spots with plants Mattie bartered for a ride, dahlia bulbs I had been given for my birthday, planting seeds, rearranging plants. A couple more days of working at it should make me feel better about it.
As I worked Possum, one of the ferals came over to keep me company. She loves to be petted. She purrs and rubbed against me. She chased dirt clots and finally laid stretched out close next to me. It is so strange. As friendly as she is, I still can't pick k her up and she won't come inside for more than a couple minutes.
The big news is that Tim got his tractor running. That has been troubling him. I am glad. I have been wanting some rock moved to make a little back drop to my flowers. He spent a couple hours mowing.
The vegetable beds look great too. They are so easy to keep weeded. I planted a couple dozen tomato plants - cherry, beefsteak, and San Marzano. Peppers sweet and jalapeƱos, onions, garlic, peas, beans, zucchini, carrots, corn and pumpkins. Herbs- rosemary, basil, chives. Oregano. It makes me happy to see everything doing so well.
I saw a bluebird. It is nest building. That made me happy too.
Thursday, I am headed east for granddaughter time. Another happy thing.
Lacey did not want to be picked up. Sha’s cat is very friendly and really loves to be loved by her, but she doesn’t like to be picked up. Sha’s theory is that rescued cats are like that, and yours fits in its own way.
ReplyDeleteI guess you won't be driving the Lexus for the family visit.
ReplyDeleteWe NEVER pick up our cat. Maybe if the house was on fire and we needed to carry her out. She does NOT want to be handled in that way.
ReplyDeleteSounds like your garden is absolutely lovely.
I'm glad events have calmed down a bit and you are seeing happy things in your life to perk you up. It helps to have the granddaughter visit to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to be happy and your garden growing as well.
ReplyDeleteYou two are overdue for some good stuff to happen. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteGreat to have a good day after you've had some downers.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a nice post. I'm glad you both got some extra sleep- so happy the tractor is fixed - the flower beds and vegetables sound wonderful and nothing better than a grandchild visit!
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely to see the word happy in your post too. Your veg plot sounds amazing. I just have runner beans, garlic, tomatoes & cucumbers (various), Tam's winter squash and cantaloupe melons and strawberries. (I have the latter in pots inside to stop the blackbirds eating them before Rosie gets to them!) Then the strawberries go back outside.
ReplyDeleteGlad the tractor is fixed.
Your garden is growing well - so much food - lovely.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with granddaughter
A very productive garden - well done. Enjoy your granddaughter time.
ReplyDeleteI’ve been away and am just catching up. These car thieves are evil, not only have they stolen your car but subjected you to all the stress and hassle that inevitably follows. Thank goodness you have your garden to focus on and relax in. It sounds amazing.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you could have a roadside stand for vegies and flowers. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI've never had a cat who liked to be picked up. They tolerated it because they liked me, but I learned to wait to be invited. I handled hundreds of cats in my petcare service years, rarely did a cat feel okay being picked up. I think it's an invasion to them.
ReplyDeleteGood to have Happy Things. And cat company in a productive garden!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your visiting x
Gardening is always a restorative experience -- at least I think so.
ReplyDeleteThe bluebird of happiness!
ReplyDeleteI have one, a sweet little statue-thingy, that my sister gave me as a gift. I remember wondering why she'd give me such a thing, but I set it out and every time I looked at it, I loved it. It became my bluebird of happiness and I'm so grateful for it now. -Kate
Lots of good things in your life! The gardens sound great.
ReplyDeleteI’ve always wanted to see an American bluebird
ReplyDeleteZip a Dee dooodah
Miss G is not a cuddle cat, although she will tap you on the shoulder if you aren't patting her the right way.
