One spring day.

Today was such a beautiful day, 73°, wind blowing in a very determined (but warm!) way. It is a sunny day, with quite a bank of dark clouds glowering from the west. Tomorrow is supposed to be a pretty stormy day, waking up to thunderstorms, followed by multiple fronts moving through all day long. They are warning of EF2 tornadoes and damaging hail.  Thursday: snow. St Patrick's Day? High of 26°.

Ah, spring!

So I spent today outside. I planted all the seeds that need started indoors. I uncovered all of the raised beds, stirred in some compost and fine sawdust. I was pleased to see that I have thyme, basil, and garlic coming up.

I planted flowers, cleaned winter debris, hauled my tomato cages up.

I helped Tim put tin on a roof. Tricky business hauling 4x8 sheets of tin in a brisk wind, but I managed not to blow away.

PBS News Hour is not available. Anyone else seeing that?

650 ICE agents are still in Minnesota. That is 4x what is expected. They are picking up pregnant women from their scheduled appointments. Women are not keeping appointments and giving birth at home. Medical personnel are mobilized to address this.

Lindsey Graham wants Arab countries to join the fight.

Who would miss a chance to be a part of this?

  1. We are getting the same weather forecasts downstate from you in Pittsburgh. And yes you are lucky you didn't blow away carrying tin sheets! I used to work in lumber in the mid-1980s and that gave me a real flashback. I wish Trump's brain would just explode and be done with it.

  2. You have been busy 'achieving'.
Still the ICE nightmare goes on. Just wait for the first ICE induced abortion.

  3. Yes, wasn't it a beautiful day? I have been outside as much as possible this week. Just soaking it up.
I caught up on your last 3 posts. You have been busy! You may need to protect that basil next week when we're back to freezing temps. I am worried about my pear and cherry trees which are threatening to open their blooms. Please don't, I tell them!
We have had bees off and on. I miss the hives, but after the last ones dies a few years ago we found that it was just too costly to start again. The prices have gotten crazy. I hope you can find some for a reasonable price.

  4. Miss Lindsey seems more deranged than usual lately, I do wonder what's up with him.

  5. I watched (March 10) PBS news hour tonight. Not sure why you couldn't get it. I watch it on youtube.

  6. I have a friend who lives in Minneapolis. She tells me nothing has changed except the press coverage.

  7. Good grief, ICE really has no shame.

  8. I don't know how many times I've said that I can't believe something is happening. Where is the media? Where is Congress? I'm starting to lose hope. That temperature is great. We're having late winter after having mild temperatures when we normally have colder ones. It might even snow! Argghh.

  9. I can see our deficient climbing higher and higher with ICE and this horrible war. I'm so scared of everything that's happening. Are people really in support of what is going on?

  10. March is a dangerous time for a case of garden spring fever :-) Chris from Boise

  11. Are your weather predictions accurate? Here, tourist attractions are complaining about loss of revenue because the weather forecasts are often completely wrong (like rain all day predicted for Malvern 10 days back, and it was sunny).

What the hell are ICE up to snatching heavily pregnant women like that? It's just sick.

    Gosh, you've been busy.

  12. The world has gone mad. I'm with the lady, worrying . . .

  13. Speaking of ICE, we may be having an ice storm today.

  14. There's a feeling that worrying helps in some way to avert the worst. Not so sure, though.

  15. Funny how certain memes can capture exactly a feeling or emotion or small bit of insanity each of us carries.
I have my "regular" basil planted in an old bucket I got at the dump. I punched some holes in it and it's on an old stand in my little garden area by the kitchen and somehow a stalk of celery is growing in it too. A little volunteer. Every time I see it it makes me happy.
I do believe Lindsey Graham is firmly in the doubling down phase of cult behavior.
Enjoy your beautiful days and be safe in those windy ones!

  16. Well at least you have spring to look forward to with summer vegetables as well. As for the rest - who knows?

  17. That last meme is me:)
We still have a lot of snow here but I did start my tomatoes and some other plants indoors. There is hope.
I saw trump talking about that, about people with no legs walking around. Sigh. It's awful that nobody has taken away his keys to the nuclear codes.

  18. Our snow finished melting today and my snowdrops have appeared. Temperature is either 37 or 38 right now. Mostly it is wrong, we were told rain for 24 hours but got about one hour this morning. I am so thankful to be living in a sane country. We are not perfect but not nuts. The trump regime is very much like the Iranian regime. Gigi

  19. Wow, that is a crazy temperature swing! Fifty degrees?! I can't add much to the Trump criticisms above except that I agree. Funny thing about Lindsey Graham is that the right-wingers hate him too.

  20. I'm waiting on some enthusiastic spring weather..at the moment it is enthusiastically raining..again...and overenthusiastically windy.
I went into town on the bus...and it was a double decker. The driver was working hard to keep it safe holding its line in a crosswind.

  21. The temperature here in Arizona is moderate today, but heading upwards through the end of the week and into the next. I'm leaving before we have a 100F day! At home it is above freezing, at least for a few days. I'm looking forward to planting some seeds for starts when I return.
The man with no brain is a true statement.

  22. Everything is in full bloom here and it's supposed to get down to freezing next Monday night. Maybe the forecast will change before then. I'm not sure which is worse..... the crazy weather or the crazy world.

  23. It's was raining and snowing for a while this morning. Now just rain but we might have snow for the weekend. But all of this is normal for the Midwest in March. PBS News is on around here but they do have breaks in the program so they can have local stations ask for $$ - maybe you tuned in during one of those breaks??

  24. We don't plant here until mid-May.
No brain is becoming more and more obvious each day!

  25. I went today to get skin cancer removed from my face, cost me zero. On Monday I go for the injections in my eye for macular degeneration, cost zero. My son in law spent 5 days in Hospital last week, cost zero. My daughter just had a sleep study overnight, cost zero and she had one cataract removed last week and she only paid for the lens. I love that we have health care for everybody. My taxes are well spent. Gigi

  26. I am just hoping that Autumn waits until I have unpacked and repacked my bags better for the season.

  27. It's such a strange contrast to have such a beautiful spring day outside while the news (especially regarding ICE in Minnesota) is so heavy. It really makes you appreciate the quiet moments like you had in the garden. Take care.

I'm glad you're here!
