Counting my Blessings.

Tomorrow is the last day of the year. 2022 ended with a bit of heart break and tomorrow Colin and Cara will be headed home and I did not get to see them, but 2022 started with a trip to England to visit them. I can't really complain now, can I? I spent a whole month with the two of them, a perfect blend of extraordinary and ordinary days.

I retired in 2022, and that has been wonderful. I was able to take regular trips to see my grandaughter, which was wonderful, and I got to stay with her while her mother and father brought the new grandaughter in to the world. The time was just perfect. So was the brand grandaughter.

William lives much closer, and we have had more perfect days with him that most any grandparents I know.

It all balances out, really. I've been pretty blessed this year.

  1. We're so lucky to have Jack living with us too. My son is out of jail and trying to raise his other son and sober (I hope). Miss Katie is well and my other daughter will finally start treatment for her MS, after almost a year. I had a lovely day today with a million, give or take a few, young kids, all having the times of their lives, including Jack. What could be better?

    Have a happy new year:)

  2. I hope you are already planning your visit to Colin and Cara in 2023, to make up for not seeing them this time.

A brand new grand-daughter sounds pretty good too, and having William close enough to visit regularly. BTW, I was terrible with money when I was young - it used to burn a hole in my pocket!! Hope that William is learning to be careful with his.

    1. I have to say that I wasn't so great in this area either, but thrown into a situation where I needed to be frugal for many years, I have to say that the lessons stuck with me. Tim and I really do believe that managing your money and living within your means is the foundation for a successful life. We want him to be successful.

I have so very much to be grateful for.

    1. Everyone won't be all together at once, but we are truly fortunate that we will be able to visit everyone over the course of the year.

    1. I think the 'balance' comes from within. I have a tendency to get all gloomy when things don't go according to plan. I have to remind myself to look at the big picture.

    1. It is. I forgot to tell you. Remember how I was 'Ama for such a long time? My grandaughter started school and she has become very mindful of her speech. When I went there in early December, I was Grandma. It was a surprise, and I will miss Ama.

  8. Well, yes. It is good to spend some time today thinking of the things we are grateful for. And we all do have those things.
Now on to see what next year holds...

  10. Happy New Year! We've all had our share of let-downs but it can be helpful to remember the good that went with the bad.

  12. Happy New Year, thank you for giving me a great read almost every day. I enjoy your column and hearing about the grands. I have a new great granddaughter but she is in S. Korea. Pictures and zoom are great but holding that little girl will be a blessing. I cannot even imagine how great it will be. Have a great year with more good days then not so good.

  13. Happy New Year, Debby. A little bit heartbroken for you that the stars didn't align for C&C to see you this trip. I hope that 2023 has much smooth water and beautiful reflections available.
