The mushroom class was fun. I have a log inoculated with lion's mane. Met some neat folks. The 'teacher' fell into the whole thing by accident. He lived in Virginia. There were limestone caves. He started growing mushrooms. It went so well that he wound up growing high specialty mushrooms for high end restaurants. He had a lot of knowledge.
I met a bee keeper. There are bee keeping meetings. A chance to learn something new. So that is an opportunity.
I met a woman who hasn't had a TV since the 1980s. She said, 'I am a weirdo...' A very serene weirdo, I have to say.
We had our first thunderstorm. Short, sweet but it was a doozy. I love thunderstorms.
Our owl is a Great horned owl. He sounds like he is calling from the swamp.
No what else is calling from the swamp? Peepers! That is a sure sign of spring.
Lots of little joys.
But our president is still a lunatic. Stark raving. We have boots on the ground in Ecuador. He is saying that Cuba is going to be attacked. I can't believe that our military is violating the Geneva Convention. Every day brings us to another level of crazy.
I'm so glad you've found solace and some refuge from all the Crazy... isn't that what we all really desperately Need right now? Having no TV since the 80's does sound appealing...
ReplyDeleteI can't not watch. I sure wish I could.
DeleteThe nightmare will end, but there will be long ongoing repercussions. It's not just #47. The whole Republican Party stinks to high heaven and has done almost irreparable damage to your country.
ReplyDeleteAt least nature is not affected and the birds still call, but the dropping of environmental protections could affect that.
You know Andrew, in the early days just after Russia attacked Ukraine, I was watching some night ombing. When the bombs finally stopped, there was a moment of silence. And then the crickets started. I found that very moving, and I wished to be a creature small enough that man's ugliness does matter to me.
DeleteI am listening to Spiegel im Spiegel, the most calming music I know. As Andrew says it will all be over eventually, restoring a sane better world will take a little longer.
ReplyDeleteI know that this will end in my lifetime, but I will be gone by the time the new sane world arrives.
DeleteIt sounds like you are expanding your skill base and having fun at the same time. I don't watch much tv now and can't imagine how many extra books I could read each year if I didn't watch it at all.
ReplyDeleteI do need to read more books.
DeleteWell, with all the headlines screaming at us every day, relentlessly, I could do with hearing something more pleasant. Thankfully, all the birds have woken up to the fact that it is now Spring here and they are singing their little heads off.
ReplyDeleteWe slept with our windows open, and it was nice to wake up to birdsong.
DeleteWith the nation going off the deep end, I’m glad you have your fine little life within it.
ReplyDeleteI would lose my mind without those distractions.
DeleteMushrooming and beekeeping sound like exactly what might keep a person sane now.
ReplyDeleteThere is sure enough manure to grow mushrooms!
DeleteMy daffodil leaves are getting taller and there are a few buds to see already. I'm hearing more birds here too. We celebrated 3 family birthdays at my home yesterday and had a lot of laughs. I've been able to get out for a walk more often these days.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are finding things to be happy about in this crazy world.
We have to. Otherwise, life becomes pointless.
DeleteThere's a saying "This too shall pass." I wish I knew when. I might feel better if I did. Instead it just keeps piling up with more and more lawlessness.
ReplyDeleteWeather here is warming which means our mountains of snow are melting. It's mud season in NH!
I know. An ETA would help.
Deletetrump is batshit, but so are the people who prop him up and change his diapers.
ReplyDeletei would love to learn more about beekeeping. deborah is the patron saint of beekeepers.
Ha! You know, I knew that bit of trivia, but had forgotten it.
Delete"I have a log inoculated with lion's mane"...it took me a minute to realize that lion's mane refers to mushrooms. :p
ReplyDeleteIQ45 and his minions have damaged the world in so many ways and in such a short time period. Even after he leaves this world, it will take decades to repair the damage.
I could have explained that better.
DeleteSounds fun! We looked into keeping bees, but decided against it. There are a lot of hive collapses and that must be so upsetting.
ReplyDeleteA woman there lost all her bees last winter. She said she cried.
DeleteYour last sentence is key. Why is the military following orders which violate a number of policies? Why aren't politicians using their powers?
ReplyDeleteThat is the scariest part to me, Red. the people who have the power are refusing to use it.
DeleteWhen I was in high school we had teachers who were married. The husband taught English and Journalism and I am not sure about the wife, she may have been the librarian. They did not and had never owned a television. I was awestruck. And this was when we had three channels, lol. (Four if the wind was blowing right from Canada).
ReplyDeleteLol. I remember those days!
DeleteAs a veteran of the US military like you are, the fact that the US military is following illegal orders is extremely troubling.
ReplyDeleteThat is very scary to me. Another thing I am seeing is this rush to declare that our job is to support the troops. I do. But I still think they should not be there.
DeleteDid you see Lindsey Graham bragging about how he and Netanyahu manipulated Donald Trump to going in? HE IS A PUPPET.
We have bees and we have peepers, but the owls I hear most often are Barred Owls. I talk back to them. 🙂
ReplyDeleteI do too! Great horned owls are territorial and will hoot right back at you!
DeleteI'm stunned even the Repubs didn't pass the bill to stop the war. So many politicians should have already put him and his administration in jail. A relative tells me our troops are sleeping in Atlanta's airport floor. Sad. Scary how the Jerk thinks he can control the whole world and choose who is in charge with such rotten choice of words. Linda in Kansas with a tiny E0 tornado through the metro last night. Just trees down and power out; needed to head further southeast and remove the Wicked Wizard!
ReplyDeleteIt defies all sense. The country does not matter. It is all about self preservation.
DeleteWe had tornado activity one county over. Our sirens were sounding, but all we got was some crazy downpours with some pretty shocking thunder and lightning.
ReplyDeleteListening to the news is so depressing now. I was away from it all in Hokkaido. Now I'm back and it seems the craziness has multiplied a million fold. And still his supporters think it's OK.
ReplyDeleteKay, your photos from Hokkaido are amazing!
