This and that.

Red sky at night, sailor's delight.

We finally got our dressers moved down.

I bought this bedroom outfit when I was stationed at Ft Belvoir, VA, in 1985, for $750 from an antique dealer. I was very brave. There was a vanity that went with it. I knew it would not fit in the new bedroom. I gave it away to someone who loved it. It was the right thing to do.

Something that makes me laugh everytime I drive past it. A local business man who is quite an odious fellow put a message up on the sign in front of one of his businesses. "God Bless MAGA".

Some hero snuck up there and swiped two letters: an M and a G. The sign now reads 'God bless AA'.

I laugh every time I drive past it. Mr businessman has not seemed to notice it so far.

Possum is the next cat to be neutered. She has begun to come in the house to eat, which got her lavishly fed as a reward. She will be much easier to catch.

I needed to pick up a bag of potatoes yesterday. Much to my surprise, they had a 5 lb bag of russet potatoes for $8.49! I could not believe it.

Did I buy those potatoes?

No.

I will pay that kind of money when pigs fly.

  1. So you'll be growing potatoes next year. I probably pay more because I never purchase by the bag. Oh well.

  2. I'm afraid we'll pay that much and more for potatoes unless we have our own potato patch.

  3. The photo of the Red sky at night, is really awesome and exotic. I hope that I see such thing in the sky right now here my friend

  4. Oh boy, I have not checked potato prices lately . . . Potatoes are one of my favorite food groups!
Lovely bedroom - your new house is so pretty.
    #GodBlessAA - I love it!
I paused to check potato prices at our Aldi - $5.19 for 10 lbs. I think I will get some tomorrow so I can enjoy before the prices catch up to me.

    1. I did not get the $8.49 russets, but I did get white potatoes for $5.49, with a BOGO. So 10 Lbs for $5.49 which was bad enough. We will need to go to buy 50 lbs in Waterford. We usually pay around $23 so, we will see.

  5. I'm at present enjoying potatoes I grew from a bag of small potatoes that had started sprouting...organic, so not treated to inhibit growth....a good start!

    1. Hopefully people will begin to squeeze in home gardens where ever they can. It is amazing what you can turn out in a small place.

  8. Like gz, we grew our own potatoes this year from some local spuds from the Farmers Market that had begun to sprout. They turned out really well so we'll try the same again.

    1. I think that we are going to try growing them in bags next year. I am waiting for Dave to come galloping in at any moment.

  9. Yes, great job the orange oaf is doing, everything is more expensive. I bought a roll of non-stick foil the other day, it was $14! FOR FOIL! What a great thing you are doing with the cats.

    1. Yikes! The thing that just baffles me is when Dear Leader says groceries are down, that is easily disproven. Don't these MAGA folks have eyes? I read the claim that Disneyland has had its highest quarter ever. Further research shows that international travel to the US is down by 63% and the tourist industry is really feeling the pinch, so I really question where these claims are coming from.

  10. Humour will eventually bring the bastards down;) AA. And to echo the 'red sky at night, shepherds delight, red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning' Apparently it comes from the bible but I don't think it is true.

    1. I found this: he concept of the phrase can be traced to the Bible's Gospel of Matthew, where a similar sentiment is expressed by Jesus to the Pharisees.
Jesus observes that a red sky at sunset predicts fair weather, while a red sky in the morning indicates foul weather, a saying he uses to illustrate that people are skilled at interpreting the weather from the sky's appearance.

  11. Shepherds and sailors and anyone else having to work out of doors learn to observe the skies and dress accordingly.
Prices are rising almost daily - it's very hard for those on a tight budget and will only get worse as the weather cools and hard decisions have to be made.
AA in UK stands for Automobile Association or Alcoholics Anonymous!

  12. Here, the automobile group is known as the Triple A, American Automobile Association...the two A's are always associated with Alcoholics Anonymous.

I have expected them to rise here, but the rate that they are rising is a nbit shocking. Albert, our produce guy, always went to an auction and bought produce by the truckload, brought it home and sold it. The auction has shut down. That is an ominous sign, I think.

  13. My potatoes failed this year, first time ever. I usually get a couple of pounds from a container each year. But I'll try again next year. Produce prices are rising steeply.

  14. Your bedroom furniture is beautiful. You were very kind to give that piece away. Most of the pieces I have had for years I purchased in the 80s. I love that flying pig and the rocker too. I agree about grocery prices and am amazed that all of the MAGAs are not mentioning it at all - wait, not true - that does NOT surprise me. They are all drinking the koolaid.

  15. Bought russets here in Toronto 5 pounds for $3.99 just last week. I call potatoes cheap food, easy to eat so I eat them once a day now. Other veg is getting expensive here, even locally grown. We don’t buy American anymore but can get everything from Mexico, South Africa, Morocco, Chile, Peru etc. America is not the only place anymore but the dumb donald isn’t aware of anything and probably has never shopped for anything other than cheeseburgers all his life. 16. What if the business man changed the sign himself? Got fed up with potatoes that cost so much?
(I doubt this but it would be funny.)

  18. I have a bedroom set that was my great aunts, and she passed away about 50 years ago. My husband refinished it years ago and it looks like new. We had potatoes on sale this week for lbs. for 2.89. It is time for the potatoes to be dug; they should be much cheaper than 8.00. We have huge potato fields here in Florida and one of the chip plants buy them. After they are dug with the machine, they sometimes open the fields for people to go gather the ones missed.

  19. Love the sign adjustment. ;)
    And your flying pig! :)
Everything is going up. But how would we expect a man who thinks "groceries" is an old-fashioned word and that you have to show your ID to buy food to know anything about real life?

  20. That's funny about the sign. I am not at all surprised the MAGA guy hasn't even noticed.

  21. That dresser is beautiful. I love antique furniture. When I got divorced, I had some spare money and had a bedroom suite built by Old Hippy company. It's solid wood and craftsman style. One day it'll be a lovely antique for someone.
Those are expensive potatoes. Did you plant potatoes this year?

  22. I'm glad I'm only feeding 2 people now so my grocery expenses are easy to afford. I can't imagine the cost if I was still buying food for our family of 2 adults and 5 kids! Yikes!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I buy potatoes individually, they are always available loose at the grocery stores here, 99 cents a pound recently. I'll buy one or two at a time, a bag would just rot before Id eat it all. I'm not a big potato fan. Groceries have gone way up in price. I assume Magats are happy now.
