....I have questions.
How does one lose a favorite tablespoon?
I mean, it doesn't go anywhere.
And exactly when did I get a favorite tablespoon?
I looked in all the drawers. Tim said, "What are you looking for?" and I replied "My favorite tablespoon," and it sounded very stupid. I never even realized I had a favorite tablespoon until I said the words out loud.
Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone?
I have a favourite tablespoon and a favourite fork. They were my mothers and must be used for certain dishes that I make. The spoon measures out a perfect ounce of flour. I've often thought that they'd be among the first things I'd grab if there was a fire. So - it all seems perfectly normal to me to have favourite cutlery ;)ReplyDelete
I have certain utensils that I prefer to use for different jobs. As Debbie says, I think it must be something to do with size or the way the handle feels or... the moon / my mood???ReplyDelete
If I lose something like that these days it is usually because I have put it back in the wrong place without thinking. Senior moments? Yesterday I was about to throw some rubbish in the bin that sits in the cupboard beneath the kitchen sink and ended up almost putting it in the saucepan cupboard next door.
Perhaps it's in the new parking lot? I hate it when things go missing. I am always losing garden secateurs. They always turn up though, eventually.ReplyDelete
Assuming we are talking about the same kind of spoon, we have one tablespoon mostly used as a serving spoon. We use a proper measuring spoon for recipes. It is strange how you can have a favourite tablespoon, and perhaps even a choice of them.ReplyDelete
I have a favourite tablespoon too!ReplyDelete
They hide...until you stop looking for them!!
I don't have a favorite tablespoon but I do have a favorite 1/3 cup measurer. It sides are sloped just precisely so that I can perfectly portion out salmon cake patties that I mold in it. Several of the other cups in the set have been lost and my wife has two complete other sets but I hang onto that one loner just for salmon cakes.ReplyDelete
What about spatulas? We have pink, mauve and white. I gravitate to pink. I must be in touch with my feminine side. :)ReplyDelete
I remember one time talking to my son's friend about spoons. He always thought a spoon was a spoon. I showed him a tea spoon, a table spoon. a soup spoon, a sugar spoon and I forget now if there were any others. Maybe a grapefruit spoon. - He was amazed! Ha Ha!ReplyDelete
I'm talking about measuring spoons, which in our non-metric country, come in tablespoon (tbls), teaspoon (tsp) 1/2 teaspoon and 1/4 teaspoon. Putting it in the wrong place is a distinct possibility. When I get in a rush, I do stupid things.ReplyDelete
I must confess that I have similar attachments to ostensibly unexceptional household items. It never used to be this way. I don't know what the hell happened.ReplyDelete
I secretly worry that it means I am entering my dotage. If only you'd have seen my excitement earlier in the week as I unpacked my new carpet shampooer...ReplyDelete
In my case it would fall into a crack. Between the stove and counter, behind the cupboard, like that.ReplyDelete
LOL -- I'm not sure Joni was talking about silverware, but I guess that expression applies to anything! Could it have gone in your trash? Sometimes silverware winds up in a box or bag (especially if you've been eating/scooping something from said box or bag) and winds up being thrown away. Time to scour the trash bags!ReplyDelete
I have a favourite small knife, I hate it if hubby uses it. Only because he never puts it back where it should be.ReplyDelete
Might it have fallen down the back of something, or have been put in the garbage in error, or even in the fridge? I eventually found my spectacles in the egg tray of the fridge once :) Never did find the missing eggs though, ha ha.ReplyDelete
I don't have a favorite tablespoon but I do have a kitchen timer shaped like an owl. He has a name and I talk to him while I'm cooking. He's very old and his bell only works intermittently but I don't mind. I keep checking up on him and when it's time for him to ring I remind him.ReplyDelete
all of you make me feel very normal. Thanks for that!ReplyDelete
