I was worn out when I went to bed last night. I hadn't had a full night sleep for a couple of nights.
The first night was due to a coughing, grumpy husband
The second night was cats. They meowed to go out at 5:30:am, as usual. When I shuffled down the hall to let them out, they looked at the snow on the porch, a light dusting, but enough to cause them both to paws and rethink. They decided no.
I relocked the door and went back to bed. Minutes later, they were both at it again. This time they were meowing at the other door, hoping, I suppose that the weather would be more to their liking out that door. I opened the door. They peered out and once again, they backed away.
At that point, I just did not bother to go back to bed. I did not want to disturb him.
So yesterday was a long day. I filled it with making chili and watching the snow and daydreaming about my moonscape.
Tim finally got his bow back from the repair shop. He was out hunting all afternoon, so it was a quiet day, much of it spent opening and closing doors so two cats could consider whather or not they actually wanted out. (Spoiler: they didn't.)
So I went to bed early last night, all Vicks-ed up. I pulled the drapes and I slept soundly until 7:30, something that was really disorienting. Two cats should have woke me up already. And why did it seem so quiet and darker than usual?
We had received more than the predicted inch of snow. More like 8 inches. The cats didn't even bother to ask to go out at all.

Oh my gosh you really got that much snow??! The last meme here made me laugh out loud but holy cow 8 inches?! We had lots of blustery winds, icy temps and flurries but that's it. You Northern Pa'ers are a tough set! Debby, sorry for the under-the-weather stuff. Sure hope a speedy recovery is on the horizon.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately we cannot blame snow for people starting Christmas preparations too early.
ReplyDeleteI assume the cats have litter trays inside and don't actually have to go out.
Our forecast was 1-8 inches. We got 1 inch. I'm sorry.
ReplyDelete8 inches of snow in the first half of November sounds all wrong!
ReplyDeleteStill mild here in Suffolk England - mid 50s F although the jet stream is moving for the end of the week and the wind will be from Iceland direction - so I'm hoping we don't get even 1 inch. 8 inches and the country would come to a grinding halt.
November does seem early for snow. Your lovely house will be warm and snug though.
ReplyDeleteWhen we had cats I don't remember them being bothered about snow. One of them ( my favourite, called Berry...his sister was Holly!) was mainly white with tabby markings and he always looked cream against the snow!
ReplyDeleteEight inches! Holy moly, that's a lot for a November snow. Hoping to ease into the season here in Maine.
ReplyDeleteSensible cats, and you got some much-needed sleep. I hope you're feeling a little better now.
ReplyDeleteI have been stuck in the house since Saturday because of snow. We ended up with 8 inches. My snow shoveler does not start until December so I tried brushing off the car yesterday. It was too much for me so I have to wait till it gets warmer today for the rest to melt. It is 37 degrees this morning so when the sun comes out I think I might get out today. I am trying my best to age in place but finding it hard with basically no support. My girls do not live near me. Gigi
ReplyDeleteThe cats leaned relatively quickly, the driver not quickly enough.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever read "The Door into Summer" by Robert Heinlein?
ReplyDeleteSame cat thought process.
Better you than me with snow like that. I'd die.
So much snow! It’s flurrying here right now, but nothing more in the forecast. But it’s certainly been cold enough, with the strong winds! I was always amused by watching cats see the first snow- they seemed to have forgotten about last year’s snow 😹Btw, I love your idea for weaving! I get those ideas too, usually while working on a different craft project… I wish there were more hours in the day! There’s no way I’ll be able to get around to making all of it… Hope to see your project soon! Have fun! Xo, Rigmor
ReplyDeleteThe first snow is usually about people off the road because they've forgotten how to drive in snow. Our local police messages are all about look out, slow down, it's slippery. You had quite a bit. I expect the cats have now remembered -- oh, never mind, then!
ReplyDeleteI love the moonscape in your mind's eye.
I have the same problem with our cat. She either forgets or is very hopeful that the next time the door is opened, the snow will be gone:)
ReplyDeleteI was parked beside a young woman the other day and I happened to look at her tires and they were bald. OMG. People, winter is coming!
