Seasons change and so do I.

We finally got a good soaking rain on Tuesday.  I honestly don't think there is a better sound to fall asleep to, the shussssshhh of heavy rain on the roof.

I washed windows yesterday, inside and out. It is interesting. We picked up windows over the years as we found them on sale. The sizes match, and the colors too, but the mechanisms vary. What started out as a small job (only 11 windows to do) turned into an afternoon's work. I could not find the right nozzle for the vacuum, then I needed to rip it apart to clean the filters. Then I finangled with the different windows. Long story short: I have three more windows to clean.

But yesterday, on my ladder it was cool and breezy and the tree leaves rattled behind me. The seasons are changing.

This morning, when I got up, there was a light frost in the meadow in front of the house.

A funny thing? The deer come to the meadow in the evening. Last night, two curious cats came out to watch them feeding. A big doe was curious right back. She walked to each one of them in turn to investigate. One cat fled, but one cat stayed, and the deer ate, comfortable with the strange little creature laying just a few feet away.

I think Portland and Chicago are doing it right. Not backing down, either one of them.

Ice teargassed the police in Chicago.

ICE Feuds With Chicago Police As Tension Between Law Enforcement Grows - Newsweek https://www.newsweek.com/ice-chicago-police-tension-10834038

Oregon National Guard General states that if the National Guard is deployed in Washington State, their orders will be to protect the public from ICE.

Watching all this from the woods, one thing is clear. We owe it to the people on the frontlines to protest on October 18th.

  1. Portland, Chicago - where next?
It must have been wonderful to see the deer and the cat so close together.

  2. I have seen pictures of cats and deer together. I love that!
I realized this morning that I cannot read my usual newsletters and latest news right now. I just can't. The world will have to go on without my worry for a moment.
You've already washed your windows? Good GOD, woman.

  3. Each of us must do what we can. Inversely, if you can't, don't. No judgement here.

    1. Oh and those windows? A building lot is a pretty muddy place. Lots of splatter and hand prints and dust. Once the grass fills in, things will be better.

  4. The US is in deep crisis. I hope there is enough backbone and will to fight the fight.

  5. I shan't bother cleaning my windows until Spring.
    They'll only get dirty again.

    1. It is one of the certainties of life, isn't it? That which is clean will get dirty again.

  6. I thought the Oregon National Guard guy was talking about Portland, not Seattle. What a crazy and depressing world we're living in! I'm trying to find the good and sometimes I succeed. Other times things are just too heavy. My windows need cleaning--I'll wait until spring though since the rains are coming.

  10. I'm so tired of the lies that trump and his minions just spew forth every single day. It's insanity.

  11. Gosh, she washes windows, too!!!!
The grocery store is Trader Joes. I love it, probably because it is a treat to go out with friends. This morning we had pumpkin cheerios (2.99) and pumpkin brioche toast. The bread was probably $5 but we split pieces and it was a treat. For lunch (after working all day at church) I had the lobster bisque which is 4.99 I think and worth every penny. That was spoiling me. And the last spoon full had a little lobster tail. I don't grocery shop - I just look for special stuff that Aldi doesn't carry.
Congratulations and best wishes to your daughter the bride! I will probably be sharing photos from this weekend.
I am gutted to miss the No Kings. Long ago we rsvp'ed to a family wedding four states away. And there is no way to back out. I will carry a small flag to wave at any protests we pass while blowing my horn! And I believe my portable speaker will be attending in my absence.
