Stupid feral cat killed a chick. I am pretty upset by this. I let my guard down after a week. She ripped down the screening.
So. I feel pretty dumb.
We are siding the house.
I managed to catch a cold. In the middle of all this heat. Speaking of heat, it is affecting a lot of people in a lot of places.
As always, gratuitous kitten pictures:
Tiger is the mother, who gets the big snip next week.
He reminds me of someone.
So sorry about the chick. Kitten doing what it's built to do, but it's sad.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the chick. You start to get attached to them when you have just a few. Chicks are usually food to most animals. Lock them up at night.
ReplyDelete28 degrees is a heatwave? Poor chicken. Can do better.
ReplyDeleteI guess for Ireland, maybe.chicken coop reinforced.
DeleteSo sorry you're sick. Seems to be going around, and it's not fun in the summer.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can find homes for all those kitties. Neutering isn't cheap but so necessary. Our old boy is 17, and I doubt we will get another cat when he goes. Unless, of course, one just shows up here.
I can totally make that happen...
DeleteCats ... 🤔
ReplyDeleteCat maths divides chicken maths... :( I do hope that you are better soon.
ReplyDeleteWe had a cat that had a taste for chickens. That ended when the coyotes had a taste for cats.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your little chick!!
ReplyDeleteThe Irish guy was pretty funny.
I hope you are totally well soon! :)
Sorry to hear about your little chick, and hope you get over your cold soon.
ReplyDeleteCats kill lots of birds sadly Debby. If only they just caught the rats and mice?
ReplyDeleteSorry about the chick. Always a risk with cats and birds, right?
ReplyDeleteDid you do a Covid test? It's making the rounds. My sister caught it while in CA and missed her family vacation in Yosemite. Sorry about the chick. Was the feral cat yours?
ReplyDeleteLearning how to keep chickens can be a heartbreaking process. Everything loves chickens from snakes to hawks to raccoons to possums to foxes and yes, feral cats. It's a hard world for those good birds that we grow to love.
ReplyDeleteIrish guy cracked me up.
Seems like you will have a lot of nature around your place that will want to eat your chicks. Glad you have reinforced the chicken coup. I remember when Mary Moon's chickens got eaten by foxes, I think...
ReplyDeleteIt seems that all of nature wants a chicken dinner. It's heart breaking. I would echo Marcia's comment. Not that you would know it from the coverage in mainstream media, but we're in a covid surge right now. I did use the tens device, that is such a weird feeling thing. The shoulder hurts less, so I guess it's working.
