This was written by Carrick Ryan and perfectly highlights the hypocrisy of this administration and its supporters:
'Today, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stood before the world's media and made the following statement about Iran:
“This is an international waterway, No country can control them. There is no international law that allows you to say, I’m going to put mines in an international body of water, and I’m going to blow up ships that don’t listen to us and try to go through.”
“We cannot live in a world where a rogue state like this Iranian regime is allowed to claim, as a new normal, control over an international shipping lane,”
I agree with him.
Since September last year, the US military has conducted 47 strikes on civilians marine vessels travelling in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean, leading to over 190 deaths.
No criminal trials, no evidence provided to the public to justify the violence, merely an arbitrary declaration of terrorism with no transparency or accountability for who they have summarily executed.
The USA then sent its military into Caracas, killing more than 80 people, to abduct the President of Venezuela and replace him with a compliant proxy.
It then commenced a military campaign against Iran that has already killed thousands, without even attempting to conduct themselves within the parameters of international law. The UN Security Council was not consulted, and no evidence has been provided to support its flimsy attempts of retrospective justification.
The US President has made genuine threats to invade Greenland, Panama, and Cuba, without ever once bothering to even pretend to discuss a legal justification for the hostility.
The erosion of the concept of international law as a guardrail against geopolitical anarchy has led us to a dangerous place. But few nations have contributed more to that erosion than the USA, and no president has expedited its demise faster than Donald Trump.
This isn't just hypocrisy, it's insulting, performative, dishonest, and shameless.'

I saw video footage of one of the strikes on a fishing boat...the one where they struck a second time to kill the survivors clinging to the floating wreckage...and I almost threw up. I just can't bear the cruelty, nevermind the flagrant hypocrisy.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to believe that this is US being the aggressors.
DeleteHypocrisy does not begin to describe these criminals. The current administration has put the US in the same category as Putin's Russia, an aggressor nation that attacks sovereign nations with no justification whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteIt is madness, really.
DeleteIt's unbelievable, isn't it? Who are these people and why do they have a say about anything? I honestly think that we're over as a nation. We've done unforgivable things as of late.
ReplyDeleteI will choose to cling to hope.
DeleteWell said . As a European I am a long admirer of the US ( less so lately )
ReplyDeleteI hope as the mid terms and next elections you are able to get rid of the sycophants that Trump recruits .
Siobhan
I am a little sick at the Republican redistricting.
DeleteI think this bullshit would end immediately if we simply moved to popular vote.
I hated reading this, but I feel guilty for keeping my head buried in the sand. I think I saw the video Jennifer was talking about, I just keep hoping for a turnaround in the mid-terms and strokes or worse for you know who--and his cohorts.
ReplyDeleteIt is what we all are hoping for I think.
DeleteUSA has become that rogue nation. As a sailor I sailed those waters in the Carribean and Eastern Pacific where your government is blowing up those fishing boats that we saw on our travels. It is just disgusting what the USA is doing. Trump is so uneducated he probably couldn’t find those areas on a map. As a Canadian I am happy that we have parted company. It is not the American people it is the corrupt regime who you have put in charge and you were warned. Please vote them all out if you ever get the chance to vote again. Gigi
ReplyDeleteAnd today, after Marco's speech we attacked another boat in the Pacific, in those international waters, in violation of international law.
DeleteI love you Debby my anger is with the regime, not my blog friends in America. It is such a shame the damage one person could do in such a short time. Gigi
ReplyDeleteOh, Gigi. You never have to qualify the target of your upset. We get it. Most of us feel the same anger. It is a very strange place to find ourselves: we care about our country desperately but do not recognize what we are becoming. And yes I am angry sometimes. I am angry at those noble people who try to convince that this is normal. I am angry at the people who would betray our country for the promise of power or wealth. I am angry at myself even, because I have a mental list of people I won't be sorry to see shuffle off this mortal coil. Sometimes I am not even sure i recognize who I have become.
ReplyDeleteWell saID. tHE ISSUES ARE SIMPLE. wHY SOME PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND THE RULES IS A MYSTERY.
ReplyDeleteRules for thee, but not for me.
DeleteAnd yet he carries on. No one in the USA can stop him.
ReplyDeleteIt is going to happen I don't think it will end well.
DeleteYou've eloquently written what most of us think, and the world seems powerless or unwilling to resist.
ReplyDeleteThe meme is very appropriate.
Alas. I simply copied and pasted what Carrick Ryan so eloquently wrote.
DeleteA corrupt gang of crooks have taken over the Congress and are milking the system for their own good. The world has turned it's back on America sadly. They took one look at the buffoon called Trump and fled. But not only are they crooks but they are ignorant as well, and because of this people are dying needlessly in war. Who would have thought it would be the Iranians to hold the trump card?
ReplyDeleteIt's me Thelmax above ;)
ReplyDeleteIt would appear that Saudi Arabia is holding a few cards of its own. It is being reported that US military action was paused in the Strait of Hormuz not due to a request from Pakistan, but due to a threat from Saudi Arabia. They refused to allow the US access to bases in Saudi Arabia. This is a requirement to continued military action against Iran. This is what is behind the abrupt decision to pause action there.
ReplyDeleteI hope for a better world for all. We have seen what does NOT work and I hope the future will be different.
ReplyDelete"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." Dr.Seuss.
DeleteWe can sit and tell ourselves that what is happening now is no different than what has happened before. That is not true.
I see other people. Relatives even, who will think we are incredibly funny. Their question is 'what do these protests change?' My question is 'what does your silence change?'
Some people think that this is God's plan for America. These people are disregarding huge portions of the Bible or, even worse, deliberately perverting the Bible to fit their own political ambitions.
There are all sorts of ways we can justify this. It does not affect me or mine. Or it is part of a greater plan. Or that everyone who sees it differently is a dangerous radical. I am trying my best to see this as something, if we all come together, we can push back against.
The apathy of so many saddens me. I am embarassed and horrified by the behavior of my country. We have become everything we preached against. Today's actions in Tennessee just adds to all of it.
ReplyDeleteAnd now he is going to "straighten out" the pope? It's lunacy.
Oh lord. Now I need to go see what has happened in Tennessee. I expect it is more gerrymandering.
ReplyDeleteKay of Musings: I’ve heard what some MAGA people are saying and it frightens me to know we have people who believe that way in this country. I thought we were a kind, fair, good country. Now… I’m hearing hate and warfare. Sigh…
ReplyDeleteIt makes me wonder. You live in an area that is populated by a lot of military. Active duty and retired Navy, Air Force and Army. What are you hearing from that population?
DeleteThe only person I've heard from right now is my vertigo PT. His older brother has been deployed to the Mideast with this war. My PT's mother is a teacher too. I forget what his dad does. Whatever the case, they've got all their protest signs ready for the next Anti-Trump march. He's told me that they are aghast at the cost of the war... the cost of each bomb dropped, the ships lost.... And all those innocent lives lost as well that we don't talk about much.
DeleteIt beggars belief. Is there something that clicks into a politician's brain when he or she reaches a certain level that gives them greater 'power?' Our politicians are certainly not above criticism.
ReplyDeleteI just can't believe we are at this point. And that so many people are okay with it.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Debby. This highlights exactly why so much of the world is side-eyeing the current administration. You can’t preach transparency and accountability to the world while operating in a total evidence vacuum at home. Shouting about 'international law' while wearing that hat is the height of irony.
ReplyDeleteRules for everyone else, but not us...we don"t abide by international law.
Deletewhy are you blaming this guy for doing something about this evil muslim regime. They want to destroy the world.
ReplyDeleteYou need to lay off the kool-aid. America isvthe one destroying the world.
