Another day

The weather is coolish but not cold. 69° right now, but a cool wind blowing in rain. More rain. We have had aclotvof it, but knowing how desperately some areas need rain, I will not complain.

We have gotten nearly 14 inches of rain, this year, which is surprisingly considered just a bit above normal. We have 2 more inches on the way.

So. Water is running high. You know what else is high? Gas. It has gone up 60 cents since May 1st. 5 days!

BTW: I am still optimistic and hopeful. I still dream of a better, kinder world.

Also, if I ever saw that horse, I would have to bring him home because he looks so sad.

We drove back to Meadville today. At my appointment yesterday, I gave them a thank you card with a gas card tucked inside. That got a lot of attention. The card traveled around the office staff and people came out to tell that 'I did not need to do that'. I said that I liked the idea that the next time they had a Debby Dim-bulb standing in front of them all a-fluster, they could pay it forward. We all laughed together. I like that.

Today I went back for a followup. It is a longish drive and the first thing I do is tell them I am here. She remembered my name. The second thing I do is head for the bathroom because it is a long drive.

When I came out. I admired a wandering jew that they had. I had a huge one that did not take to being moved from one house to the next. I asked if they would mind if I took a clip. The receptionist said, " I can do you one better " and handed me a cup with a rooted cutting. This is really just the friendliest little clinic. At the same time, they all wonderfully efficient, which is very comfortimg.

Something unexpected was that my shoes attracted a great deal of attention. People loved them. 'They look handmade!" "Where did you find them?"

That surprised me because I really don't know that I have ever been walking past someone and their shoes caught my eye.

But they are sweet shoes.

I said. "Goodwill. Our store runs 79 cent sales, and these had the right color tag. They also were my size." And they were all suitably impressed.

So it was a good day for me and my bejeweled feet.

Over the weekend, I tried something new. I made ricotta cheese. It turned out very well. I have a lasagna in the oven that Tim is very excited about.

So. That was today and it was a satisfactory day.

Well...except for the gas.

  1. Oh thank you. Your day makes up for mine which was totally frustrating. I've just completely retreated like the turtle into her shell. Going to stay safe as long as I can in here...though I'll probably go traveling a bit in town tomorrow.

  3. Those are beautiful shoes! I try to notice and compliment when I can although I'm not sure whether I'm being appropriate or not. Shoes would probably be OK! Gas is outrageous here; it always is and now it's even more so.

    1. They are. Around the soles are tiny rhinestones. Truly the most impractical shoes I have ever had, but I do love then. At 79 cents, they had to come home with ne.

    1. How funny. I was kind of amazed by that myself. it is a trick of the shoe style. I have size 8 hoofs. Nothing dainty about me, I am afraid.

  5. "Andrew, what are you laughing at?"
"Just someone on the net referring to herself as Debby Dim-bulb."
I'm glad you gave the fuel card. Not everyone would, I'm sure.
Wandering Jew is a pest here and spreads quickly, but it is not too difficult to remove, which we once had to do when our dog that liked snuffling through the plant became allergic.

    1. Tell Phyllis that Debby Dimbulb sends belated birthday greetings! Wandering jew is exclusively an indoor potted plant.

Glad you really had a good day!
Two friends and I celebrated Cinco de Mayo by feasting on Mexican fare ... talk about costing the big buckS! Holy guacamole!
Gas is climbing up to the $5/gal. here in S. CO.

  8. They really were an amazing find. I noticed they qualified for the 79 cent price. I thought "these won't fit... but then they did! How lucky is that. Did you see trump has decided that buffalo need to be gotten rid of? He says we need that land for grazing cattle. Tim read that to me and I could not believe the sheer stupidity of the remark.

  9. Well you will have to go round singing Paul Simon's 'Diamonds on the soles of her shoes' every time you wear them.

  10. I am glad I am not the only one to ask for cuttings from offices! I asked at the vets a few months ago if I could have a couple of " babies" from their spider plant! I now have 2 lovely plants coming on well!

    1. I loved them when I saw them. They are impractical and the most un-debby shoes you can imagine. I would never wear them for trekking about.

  14. The beads are the anklestrap on the shoe.

  16. Your shoes would have probably caught my eye too. They are pretty. Can you tell me what recipe you used for the ricotta cheese or where I can find it. There are many recipes i use ricotta in.

    1. I can buy milk over the state line for $2.40. You can use lemon juice, vinegar or yogurt. Since I make my own yogurt, I used yogurt. I made it in a crock pot.

  17. Very cute shoes and the price is right! I love that you paid the gas card forward. It sounds like that doesn't happen often. The medical office sounds wonderful.
Gosh, homemade ricotta. That is pretty cool!
I honestly think they raise gas prices as I am driving up a street. This really affecting low and middle income workers who require transportation.

  19. Kay of Musings: My daughter tells me the temps are in the 40s in Chicago. She’s had to scrape the ice off her car windows in the morning. Absolutely amazing for the merry month of May.

It’s such a scary time for our country right now. Do we still have almost 3 years of this horror to go?

  20. I have a diesel - I paid 2.45 per litre yesterday (equates to $US 6.62 per gallon) as I had to drive to and from a funeral 300km (186 miles) away. The good news is that you had such a great experience at the other end and were efficient at home though.
