Quiet day

Today is Tim's birthday. It was a quiet day. We went to the gym. I work out for one hour. He works out for 30 minutes. He ducked out to buy his birthdsy present. He wanted a retractable air hose for his big air compressor in his garage, and then swung back to pick me up.

On the way home we stopped at the grocery store for strawberries and heavy whipping cream. He wanted strawberry shortcake for his birthday. Easy enough. His supper of choice was a simple one too. He loves mashed potatoes and hamburger gravy. He does love mashed potatoes.

It is hard to believe we are both turning 69. 60 was a shock, and now a mere eyeblink later, we are looking at 70.  Just seems so strange. 70 is old! We aren't old!

An acquaintance posted a video of John Fettermen singing 47's praises on this Iran debacle. Another acquaintance responded with a reference to cults. They are two 80 yesr old white headed, bearded gentleman, both veterans. Both men of strong convictions. The poster blasted back with he 'was not raised to bash people on social media'.

I smiled to that. Social media didn't exist 'til both of them were full grown men. My fingers itched a little because he unfriended me years back after I let him have it for calling Hillary Clinton a c*nt. He sent me a friend request years later, claiming I had unfriended him.

I scrolled on and left the two of them going at it.

We spent a quiet night not watching the news.

  1. Happy Birthday Tim. I am 81, it seems I was 50 and then 70 and 81 just seemed the hardest for me so far. I have good health, can still take care of me and my house and handle everything I need to do. My kids are near and ready to help but I like being able to take care of myself.

    1. I consider myself fortunate. I can do what I want. It is just that sometimes I need a nap!

    1. When he asks for something like that, he needs to be the one to pick it out. Quality and prices are all over the place on this.

  3. 70 is the new 50? No? Fifty was quite a nice age really. While the signs of ageing were there, they came into force at sixty. What will next year bring when another zero birthday occurs.
The meme is good, understood by a non US person.

    1. I can see the signs of aging clearly. I fight it as much as possible, but I am not the same person I was at 50.

  4. Happy birthday Tim.
What is unnerving is people younger than yourself reaching 70....

  8. I had my 85th birthday last week and still live alone with my dog. It seems the only time I see the daughter that lives an hour away is when I have to have a procedure at the hospital where they won’t let me taxi home. I live just around the corner from the hospital so she has to take a day off work for me. She has a very busy job and it bothers me that she has to do it. My daughters and I text each other every day. I bought myself a new pair of my favourite Gerlup slippers for my birthday. I would love to be 69 again but think I am feeling better now. I see that you know who Tacoed again on Tuesday. Gigi

    1. My new knee really was a life changer for me, honestly. I do feel much better than I did at 60.

    2. Ps: grateful that he taco'ed. He has himself painted into a corner, here. Iran is threatening to destroy the entire oil infrastructure if Iran is attacked again. We have weakened ourselves militarily. So has Israel. 75% of Americans under 30 say we need to stop backing Israel. 66% of American between 30 and 35 say the same. Israel has shot itself in the foot with their actions. Times are changing. Israel is on its way down. Hopefully these new voices can stop us from following them down the drain.

  9. Happy birthday! And that's an unusual present. What cracks me up is people saying 70 is old! I vaguely remember being 70..

    1. Tim is practical. I guess when it comes down to it, I am kind of like that too. 70 is just a bit of a jolt every time I think of it. As the saying goes, it is just a bit of a shock at how quickly it happened.

  11. Tim is certainly a utilitarian-minded guy when it comes to gifts!

    1. You do not know the half of it! He called the car his birthday gift. He called the $65 book he bought about the car his birthday gift. Then he called the reel his birthday gift because he bought a pretty pricey one. Lucky he had his birthday. Those gifts just kept on coming! All joking aside, my birthday is soon. I have tod him that I really don't want anything. I can't even think of anything I need. He is off the hook. My daughter will be flying in on that day and that will be celebration enough.

  12. I remember 69! It was 6 years ago, pre-pandemic. Life was xeetainly different then.
I guess this year I might admit to being old, although I am thinking to put it off until I turn 80. I dont feel old yet except for this arthritis. Aggravating stuff.
Happy birthday to your Taurus Bull!

  13. Today is my birthday too, I'm a few years ahead of you two and I don't feel old either. Except that I'm not as brave... that has more to do with the MAGAts making it unsafe to be out and about. Also the COVID debacle changed me, that's the fault of felon 47, too. I haven't had COVID but it sure changed my thinking on some things.

    1. We have just thrown medical science to the four winds. I watched part of RFK's hearing. I couldn't believe he sat thereunder oath claiming he was not against vaccines.

  14. I turn 70 this summer--how did that happen? I find my body and stamina fading but I'm thankful for what I can still do. I try to focus on that. Although I don't like mashed potatoes, I do love strawberry shortcake. Happy Birthday to Tim!

  15. Happy Birthday to Tim! If it's any consolation, I have collected 10 more birthdays than you two and I'm still doin' just fine! Cheers!

  16. It's weird how it rushes up on a person, the years. I enjoyed my 50's, started mountain biking (not the gnarly stuff), traveled more, and it was a fun decade. Happy b-day to Tim, he sounds like he really knows how to celebrate.
