This and that.

When I woke up at 3 am. It was -13°. It may well have gotten colder, but I slept through it, but that was the end of our cold snap, thank goodness. The temperature rose 44 degrees in 12 hours  hitting 31 degrees. It felt positively balmy! Tomorrow it is expected to reach the 40s, the first time in 27 days that the temps have gotten above freezing.

Superbowl came and went. The Seahawks won, which made Tim happy. The nation survived the Bad Bunny half time show. People were upset though.

Speaking of Epstein,Ghislaine Maxwell refused to answer questions today, citing her Fifth Amendment Rights. She also said she would very much like to answer questions and would do so if trump grants her clemency.

Maybe it is just me, but if a woman refuses to answer questions because she doesn't want to incriminate herself, the last thing she deserves is clemency.

The protest was freezing Saturday. Single digits temperatures. As it went on, the wind began to pick up and the cold was even colder. We all agreed it was even colder in Minneapolis and we owed them that.

If you have never seen 'The US and the Holocaust' on PBS, it is worth your time. We took notice of is the methods used to install an authoritarian government quickly. We also noted the simultaneous rise of Christian Nstionalism in the US. The parallels were shocking. We have seen this before. The only difference is that this time the autocratic leader is our own.

  1. 40's - oh my straps and garters! I can't imagine.
The fake outrage over a 15 minute entertainment segment vs the ignoring of grown men raping children is stunning. And sickening.

  2. Not fair! The warming hasn’t reached us. It may be coming though but probably not above freezing.

  3. Thank Tim for his support! It wasn't the most exciting game but watching our great defense was fun. We are delighted here in WA! Bad Bunny doesn't do my favorite kind of music; his show was spectacular though and had positive messages. That is COLD. I'm hoping that the E-files somehow become public via Europe or someone (Massie?) so that there are consequences. There have been in other places, just not here. :(

  4. When we lived in the Cothi Valley, we had some very cold weather. Minus 17 in the valley bottom one year, and the river froze almost bank to bank - only a narrow strip in the middle, where the water still went through too fast to freeze. I think Ghislaine Maxwell should be ashamed to be still drawing breath. What a nasty piece of work she is. Those poor girls.

  5. Ghislaine Maxwell should never see the light of day again, in my opinion. Let's home Dumb Donnie doesn't reach for his pen and grant her the clemency she seeks.

  7. I'd never heard of Kid Rock but from what I have read, the has been is hardly an example of good living, or even much talent.
Bad Bunny went off like a cracker around the world.
Isn't what Maxwell asking for either a bribe or blackmail?

  8. I'd never leave my house with that kind of cold outside! Jeez! I'm glad things are warming up for you finally.

Maxwell is disgusting and should rot in jail. Which means, of course, that our "president" will probably pardon her.

  9. I imagine Trump is scared to death of Maxwell. If I were her, I'd be afraid to shut my eyes.
    Enjoy your balmy weather.

  10. It's funny how the only person in jail for this is a woman. My husband pointed out to me that a man did go to jail but he's dead. What about all the men who raped girls? Why have they not been charged?
Stay warm. We've been lucky here and had two weeks of spring weather. Very weird but a nice break in the middle of winter.

  11. It is strange that the only people getting stick for the Epstein monstrosity are British. There's only one person in jail, a British woman. Who's protecting the Americans in this farce, and why?

  12. Dan remarked that it was the first Super Bowl half time show we enjoyed watching!

  14. I just got google to do the maths on 40 degrees Farenheit and that is still far colder than we would ever contemplate in daylight! Love the meme.

  15. The outrage over the Bad Bunny halftime show is simply another smokescreen to keep people from talking about the Epstein files. I understand some of the politicians are seeing unredacted files - if they don't step up and start naming names and screaming for charges to be laid, they're all spineless. Investigations are underway in several other countries.
I watched the Superbowl and the half-time show and loved it. The sets alone were fantastic and while I didn't understand the words I got the emotion. My favorite part was his listing all of the countries in the Americas!

    1. Today Massie and Khanna did just that: Nicola Caputo, Leonic Leonov, Leslie Wexford, Sultan Ahmad bin Sulayam, Zurab Mikeladze Salvatore Nuara. They are promising to release more as the names are uncovered.

  16. I know, that somewhere, some government has the full suite of documents. It would be good if they just put them out there, in all of their unredacted glory, and let the games begin. Our president should be in jail for life.

  17. I guess it will get warmer here this week but then drop down again. It's too early for Spring in Illinois.
It's strange how the administration is dragging out the files as if people are going to forget. They've drawn so much attention to it all. I hope all of the men get jail time for their crimes.

  18. -13° wake‑up is savage, but that 44° swing to 'balmy' 31°? Break out the Hawaiian shirts. I am glad Tim is happy with the outcome of the game. I enjoyed the halftime show more than I thought I would. PBS Holocaust doc's authoritarian playbook (and Christian Nationalism echoes) is a gut punch—history doesn't stutter.
