When it is fully wound, it picks up time and then loses it as it winds down. It is often correct when it is next wound. You never get them exactly perfect, although you can get some pretty close. Once a week or so, I'm walking around with a cell phone synchronizing time on my clocks. In between, I'm glancing at clocks and thinking, "Well...it's approximately a quarter after 10."
